Ok, now that I've put about 400 hours into this game, I can safely say that I enjoy playing it.

Firstly, the game has an excellent modding communty, offering you different scenarios, as is seen in great mods such as Kaiserreich, Millenium Dawn, The Great War, and Apres Moi Le Deluge. This gives the game a TON of replay value to the point where I can confidently say that I've spent about 300 of those 400 hours on HoI4 playing these alternate scenarios.

Secondly, the game's interfaces are really streamlined. You may have some problems with the game at first, but once you grasp even the basics of producing equaipment and organizing your armies, you will be able to have a lot of fun with the game.

Adding to this, the game's multiplayer is very fun. Whether with friends or with complete strangers, you will have fun in multiplayer. While the game is usually very basic from the diplomatic standpoint in singleplayer, multiplayer allows you to communicate with other players and strike deals with them. For example, once I was playing as Commie France in Kaiserreich, and I made a secret alliance with the Poland player that we would together deafeat Germany (Poland is on Germany's side in this case). It worked out well in the end and was a great deal of fun. However just as in any other multiplayer game, you will get mad.

Lastly for the good things I have to say, the division combat feels very good. You need to find just the right template for each job. For example, one could use infantry as you main fighting force, supported by artillery, as both are very cheap. Then, one could use medium tanks accompanied by motorised divisions to tear through the enemies lines and encircle unsuspecting troops. The possibilities are endless.

While this game is very fun, it also has a couple of problems. Most notably, the AI can be EXTREMELY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at times, leaving borders open or producing far too many troops. If you have a bad PC however, this will be the least of your worries, as even for me with a 6600k OCed to 4.5 GHz and a 390x, you will lag later in the game, making it extremely grueling to fight long attrition wars. (Once I played hoi4 on my granny's PC with an old AMD APU and I literally could sit down and watch TV while at war.) Lastly, the naval combat can be a complete crapfest at times, however I can see this being fixed down the line, as they have with the previously horrendous air combat.

In sum, HoI4 is a great game, with a determined modding community, streamlined interfaces, fun multiplayer, and good combat. It has its flaws with optimization and naval combat, however these are things that can and will hopefully be fixed. I personally don't care that much about the DLC. Spend your money however you like. There are mods with better focus trees than the DLC.

Pretty chill game. The Radio adds a great sense of immersion, and has some good music.
