Vukebox

This group will be used for future announcements, discussion and collaboration for Vukebox.

Vukebox is a culture and news discovery tool that is available to any device with a modern web browser. Vukebox behaves like a video stream by actively building a persistent playlist.

The majority of Vukebox's content is automatically discovered from people who are sharing links in public spaces. If it is being shared, perhaps it is important enough to be today's news? Is it something worth seeing or knowing about? Sometimes.

The Internet is lightning and Vukebox attempts to catch it in a bottle.

The typical site configurations I use are:

Filters based on video attributes such as length and upload age were added
Bugs associated with that change were corrected, haha
Improvements to the process of saving videos!
Improved the prevention of duplicates

2022 June Vukebox Updates

During the first year of Vukebox's automated discovery 328k links were found. There were 90k videos, 64k tweets, 5.2k tiktok, and 19k news articles. I would have found many more news articles if I had kept up with marking domains as newsworthy. (An impossible 2022 goal.)

I'm back developing improvements. Here are the changes applied in June 2022!

Load times are significantly faster.

Added more discovery targets. Looking for more. =)

Added ability to repost a video that has already been saved to the main feed this month, but this video is only visible on that user's feed.

Each automated discovery origination is now displayed as their own user, such as ExplorerFox or ExplorerMoose. Before, every origination was displayed as saved by 'ReprocessingComptroller' but now it will be easier to see a texture to the data. Originations that haven't been setup with an alias yet(due to being a new trial or low frequency) are still seen as the default, though.

Added fullscreen toggle button to the desktop/horizontal view. I should have added this a long time ago, everyone should use it.

Fix to login difficulties from certain referring sites (shrug)

Minor UI improvements + removed lockscreen feature from mobile/vertical orientation
