Never tried GTA 5? Tried it back in the days of the Xbox 360 and PS3 but want to give it a roll on current-gen consoles? It still sort of blows my mind that a game from the previous generation remains as relevant as GTA 5 does today. Regardless, if you want a copy for yourself or for a last minute Christmas gift, it's hard to beat Amazon Prime's deal today: it's basically free. This offer is today only, so read on.

There is some fine print on this deal. Getting something so sprawling as GTA 5 for free seems somewhat ridiculous, but we should remember how GTA 5 makes its money these days. Yes, retail sales are still a part of the equation, but microtransactions in GTA Online are now the major part of this game's revenue stream, with the entire single-player version of the game functioning as something of a free pack-in, which again is pretty absurd. It actually makes a kind of sense for it to be a free-to-play game at this point, especially since other games like Fortnite are continuing to reduce the stigma associated with that business model.
