Sadly, it seems as though the time has come for another one of these announcements. Trust me, I hate them as much as you guys do!

Lately, and in the past, there have been MANY people adding me or coming into the group chat claiming to have been scammed by Reddit middlemen/admins or those who claim to be Reddit middlemen/admins.

If anyone comes to you claiming to be an "official" middleman of any community, be it Reddit or somewhere else, HE IS MOST LIKELY LYING AND TRYING TO SCAM YOU.

None of the admins of this Steam group are middlemen. There are "official" Reddit middlemen that represent several Reddit trading subreddits, but they are not part of this group and have special SteamRep tags to verify their identity.

Before going through with any trade outside of the Steam window, please do your research first. Remember that you are dealing with hundreds of dollars worth of items. Before trading with anyone, you should always:

1. CHECK their profile on SteamRep[www.steamrep.com]

2. CHECK whether they are impersonating any well-known community members with special tags or not[steamrep.com]

3. READ UP on the most common scams and see whether they are trying to pull one of these scams on you

4. CHECK whether their profile seems fake or not. You can usually tell if someone has a "fake" profile if they have a low amount of games coupled with many pages of profile reputation and a high Steam level.

YOU SHOULD NEVER TAKE PROFILE REPUTATION AS A SIGN OF TRUSTWORTHINESS. The only kind of rep you should be trusting is a "cash rep" where comments cannot be deleted.

As always, be skeptical of who you are trading with, no matter how trustworthy they appear to be; if you aren't sure about them, back out!

If you DO get scammed:

1. REPORT them to SteamRep[www.steamrep.com] with extensive proof of the chat logs, Paypal invoice, and trade history

2. REPORT them to Steam

3. DON'T message any of the Reddit mods asking them to ban the scammer from the group. Since this is a public group, scammers can join without confirmation, and due to it being public, we cannot kick/ban them out of the group.

4. DON'T post a thread in the Discussions asking us to report the scammer.

5. Be careful next time!

Recently, there has been a massive influx in posts promoting gambling websites (usually via affiliate links) being posted in the group comments as well as the group discussions. So much, in fact, that it has prompted me to write this announcement.

Although this is already restricted within the group's rules, I figured it would be a fair warning to let everyone know not to click these links. While some may very well be legitimate pyramid schemes, others may be malware or scam/phishing websites. As such, they are subject to immediate deletion. Also, I will be much stricter on individuals advertising any gambling websites, handing out a 1-week ban for anyone caught advertising them.

In addition, just a reminder that profile rep exchanges ("rep for rep") are strictly banned here, and anyone caught doing so will be subject to a 1 week (or longer) ban. If you see anyone asking for rep exchanges, they are most likely looking to scam and profile reputation is by no means a legitimate scale of a person's trustworthiness, as positive reputation can be faked and negative reputation can be deleted.

Any repeat offenders of either of these rules will receive even harsher punishments.

If you see anyone breaking either of these rules (or any other rules, for that matter), please report them via the "Report" button. (the flag next to their post in the discussions)

update april 1st: While websites such as "gleam.io" are not necessarily gambling websites, they will be removed as well. I've already had to remove plenty of posts regarding this website due to people promising free Steam games or something similar and then linking to their gleam referral page.
To clarify, Any kinds of websites that use a referral system to provide any sort of services are not welcome in the group, as their legitimacy cannot be verified. To add to that, they also promote a flurry of spam, as they encourage people to spam their referral links to get more exposure, thus earning better "rewards" from the website.
