This method will fix any problems you are having with NWN2 multiplayer (using Steam).

1 - Bypass the account authentication by editing your "Hosts" file.
It is located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc in Win 7 (32bits). Open the hosts file with notepad and add these two lines of text:

0.0.0.0 nw2master.bioware.com
0.0.0.0 nwn2.master.gamespy.com

and save the file.

2 - Download the client extension (version 1.0.0.25) here:

http://www.nynaeve.net/Skywing/nwn2/cliext/ClientExtension_Latest.zip

and extract it to your game folder (...\STEAM\steamapps\common\Neverwinter Nights 2).

3 - Start the game using the (newly extracted) NWLauncher.exe file. You should create a short-cut to this file and place it on your desktop. Starting the game from Steam will NOT start the proper MP client.

And there you have it. Start the game, click on multiplayer, and put whatever you want as name/password.

As much as I usually love to point the finger at EA, it really is because of the fall of GameSpy. GameSpy housed thousands of game's online services and this is their final days. Some companies are moving newer games with a larger online community over to a new service, but older games just are not worth the trouble to make the switch. As least with NWN2, there is still online support, just not through EA/GameSpy. Many other games are loosing all aspects of their online parts and it's not just effecting EA, since GameSpy housed games such as Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto 4, Civ 3, Civ 4, Arma 2, most of Tom Clancy's games, the Star Wars Battlefront games, and the list goes on. This will even have a small impact on some console games, who also used GameSpy's matchmaking services to find games.
