"The Obama administration has halted construction of the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline amid growing protests that were expected to draw some 2,000 U.S. military veterans.

The Army announced Sunday that it has denied the final easement required for the $3.8 billion project to cross under Lake Oahe in North Dakota. Instead, it will conduct an Environmental Impact Statement to examine the impacts and explore alternative routes, it said. "

so much has been happening in such a short time frame. in the days leading up to thanksgiving (more like #thankstaking), the vast majority of america was sitting cozy and warm, making their usual holiday plans in celebration of mass genocide, while hundreds of water protectors were:

• hosed down by police with water cannons, in subfreezing conditions
  
• shot at with rubber bullets point blank
  
• had concussion grenades thrown at them
  
• the usual macing,
  
• arrests of water protectors AND fining those who are traveling with supplies and donations for standing rock (if you're trying to drive out there with donations, be aware that police ARE stopping people and issuing fines)
  
• getting a ban of aerial drones slapped on them whilst the POLICE still have authority to use THEIR aerial drones (if you're a reporter, you can have one but ONLY if you have EXPLICIT PERMISSION from the gov. and documentation)
  
• one lady faces potential amputation after police threw a concussion grenade at her, practically exploding her arm
  
• one water protector was charged with attempted manslaughter when police accused her of trying to shoot an officer, despite the fact that she had no weapons on her
  
• police raiding a water protector camp, shooting horses and taking supplies (sacred and essential) then dumping them on the side of the road after pissing on them

the list goes on and on, but i think you get the point. in light of all these atrocious happenings and the silence from well, practically every political figure sans bernie, it has been declared that this month, december, is the global month of #nodapl action, in solidarity with standing rock and water protectors. every day is action day, all you need to do is look around you to see if there are any events happening, and then go participate!

another amazing thing happening is tattoo shops and artists all around the world are opening their doors to participate in the standing rock tattoo campaign. there is a design that has been developed, and it is being asked that artists donate the proceeds to the camp from tattooing this design on those who come in paying for one. check the links below to see if there's a shop near you that's participating!

the winters in north dakota are vicious, and with the government working so blatantly hard to prevent the safety and security of the water protectors, every donation, every cent counts and goes an awful long way. if you can't spare some change, then don't forget that this month is all about action. look up events and get your ass out there! (check first link)

"In news from the ongoing standoff at Standing Rock in North Dakota, a federal appeals court has officially halted construction of the $3.8 billion Dakota Access pipeline within 20 miles on either side of Lake Oahe along the Missouri River. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals says this ruling will give the court more time to rule on the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s request for an emergency injunction against construction over concerns it could destroy sacred sites and burial grounds. The emergency injunction was filed by the tribe after a lower court rejected a request for an injunction the previous Friday. This latest ruling now makes mandatory the Obama administration’s request that Dakota Access voluntarily cease construction along that same 40-mile stretch. In a separate legal development, a federal judge in Bismarck has dropped temporary restraining orders against Standing Rock Sioux Chairman David Archambault and other tribal leaders. The restraining orders were part of a SLAPP suit—a strategic lawsuit against public participation—filed by Dakota Access against leaders of the tribe in August over their participation in protests. Meanwhile, a citizen journalist was arrested and jailed Sunday and charged with criminal trespass after she filmed portions of the pipeline under construction. A live video posted to Facebook shows Sara Long being asked by private security guards to leave a field near a public highway. She complies and returns to her vehicle, where she’s met by police."
