Anyway, enough of this debate here, we have enough of this on the forums. ;)
But getting rid of Solo\PG seems simpler and affects fewer people. First, FDev wants a PvP game but have taken half measures watering down the game. Second, FDev claims most people play in Open, so removing Solo\PG disenfranchises a smaller fraction of the player base. Third, the more they make Solo\PG different from Open, the more they creep toward different games and the more testing they will need to do to make sure changes to one does not affect the other and we all not how bad Fdev is at testing.
There is still six+ years of development for this game yet I think so disenfranchising a smaller part of the player base early on to get the game you envision in the end is preferable to making the game yet more complicated with different rules for different groups. If people don't like it, they can whine about it in forums like they do anyway and quit the game if they want. Plenty of new players because, you know, the game isn't "dying".
I think it is important to think about such things myself.
Especially when there are alternatives that don't disenfranchise parts of the community, such as splitting the game, which would give everyone what they want, and not doing so seems short sighted to me. ;)
Of course, it also means splitting off consoles as well.
To be honest, since it seems to be only a small % of the open community, it doesn't need to be a full split.
Just a separate open mode where anyone who doesn't like the current setup can play without worrying about console and PG/solo players. Everyone else can play in the shared galaxy.
I don't recall seeing one cmdr in a combat fit ship....did anyone else?
Now, i'll hazard a guess you don't like that idea. Maybe you can understand how your suggestion will disenfranchise all the PG/solo players.
And you're only talking about Powerplay, a feature that can be totally ignored and is ignored by many players because its just a boring grindfest for many. Bonuses or open only won't change the fundamental nature of PP.
Splitting would be great, but FD would never do that. 😵
I also see more now than before the whole thing about open for bgs and pp.
The whole ps4/xbox1 sharing everything with PC is just not right at all since there is zero chance to stop them.....same with open/solo/private.
♥♥♥♥♥♥ nearly wiped out my un-engineered, cargo hauling python... (ok, the thrusters are engineered, but that's it - it's a WIP).
Managed to escape with 16% hull, and came back in my Vulture... He didn't last long
NOW I'm gonna get my space pew pew on... Only 2 hours late...
I'll take my Rubber Ducky Thrower and Verbally Abusive Taunt Rifle (weapons that can only be found on Planet Hairball) any day.
