About Pawnee

Pawnee: A Brief History


In 1812, Reverend Luther Howell of Terre Haute traveled over 100 miles by pushcart and planted a flag in the ground. That soil, formerly inhabited by the Wamapoke Indian tribe, was to become Pawnee. Rev. Howell was soon dispatched by the tribe, but not before consecrating the town's first church, Pawnee Lutheran, which still stands today, though it was decommissioned in 1974 and is currently a wholesale linen outlet. "Smallest" Park

What this park lacks in size, it makes up for in... lack of size! That's right; move over Terryville, because the smallest park in the state of Indiana just landed in Pawnee!

This park sits on a very unique site, not just as the location of Pawnee's last remaining telephone booth, but also as the only area in Pawnee bigger than three feet in diameter to have witnessed zero Native American atrocities.

So, come one, come all - but no more than three (maximum capacity) - and see for yourself what many passersby are calling "a small park."

Hours:
• 24/7

Facilities:
• A two-person (or, one average Pawneean) bench
• A Madison auto-lighter gas lamp
• High levels of cuteness

Programs:
• Midnight Fireworks - Nightly*
• March of the Barking Dogs: An Exhibit (not an exhibit, but very loud) - Every Saturday*
• Foghorn Collectors Showcase - 6:00 a.m. on Sunday*
• Techno Dance Class - 11:00 p.m. on Friday*
• Salsa Dance Class - 11:00 p.m. on Friday*
• Salsa or Techno? Why Not Both at the Same Time?! - 11:00 p.m. on Friday*
• FLUMP! (An Amateur Production of Stomp)** - During local bedtimes*
• Flash Mobs - Anytime and always welcome*
• Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da More Noise: Interpretive Noise - 4:30 a.m. on Saturday*

*All above programs have been canceled because everything is fine now and local resident complaints are no longer needed for reasons that need not be explained.

**FLUMP! founder and sole member, Gan Orly, will still be performing his weekly unauthorized show in the parking lot of the Arby's on Kewler St.

Ramsett Park

This former site of a Wal-Mart was converted into a state-of-the-art park in 1986. The park has still retained the flavor of the 80's through its themed playground and bright murals.

In recent years, Ramsett Park has been the site of numerous community activities, including the Pawnee International Cuisine Festival, kindly sponsored and fully catered by Christina's Bagels. In 2003, residents dedicated a bench to Councilman and Mrs. Wendell Partch-Frome, after the couple created a fund supporting an annual Ramsett Barbecue. The Ramsett Barbecue became a lasting tradition until it was curtailed in 2007, due to insufficient sanitation regulations.

Since 2007, the park has been frequented by a large number of animals, many domesticated. After an eight-month hiatus last year to set up cages and traps, Ramsett Park has re-opened to increased popularity. Parkgoers can now enjoy stopping in for a quick game of handball or just taking a cautious stroll.


Facility Hours of Operation:*
• Monday - Friday: 11:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
• Saturday: 11:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Sunday: Closed

* Please note that hours have changed, as of June 2007.
Park will return to regular hours in June 2008.
Park is expected to return to regular hours in Fall 20__.
