Suragi, I read that whole 10 page thread about the pricing. From what I can see the Dev is being more than fair.

I tried to investigate with an open mind, but It seems the main complaint, or the only complaint that I can see is about the pricing of the game.

Do you know if he has been abusing his authority at all? Deleting posts or banning people? I did not read every post on the forums.

I would fully agree with most on that thread that the price point may have been set too high. All of the responses from the Dev that I read were very fair though. I think he is taking a lot of heat and is frustrated by some of the backlash, but again just from what I have seen, he has handled himself relatively well.

People are claiming he's insulting them by saying the game may not be for them. I don't see it that way in my mind. A lot of people posting in that main thread are a little too touchy if you ask me.

I'm going to transfer ownership of the group to Vecordia. Hopefully he isn't secretly Dsmart plotting to sabotage our group from the inside!

I don't really know what's left to push on the Dsmart front at this point. If you ask me, I think it's kind of a good thing that we're not having to add dozens of devs to the list.

I really was so angry over the whole forum BS and censorship that I wanted to get the word out to anyone who would listen. Looks like we've probably helped save 100ish people from wasting their cash at least.

The discussion doesn't have to end here though. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts on how to direct our group going forward into something that will invoke change, please feel free to speak up.

I made a suggestion in the Steam Community Discussion pages about replacing the current system of having developers moderate their games. The more support it has, the more likely Valve will pay attention to it. I was hesitant to join this group because at first glance it looked like a 'we hate dsmart' group. And i dont do trolling/hate. However the focus of this group appears to focus on shaming the bad and lifting up the good... That i can believe in. The way to beat these people is to not stoop to their level.

He locked in his knowledge of computering in like 2002 and decided to learn nothing about the internet from that day forth. He probably didn't know that the name was changed, and then couldn't find it cause he can only google his own name, lol.

He may or may not be able to code still - but he has no game as far as navigating the internet/searches/programs that he's not familiar with. He has the computering skills of someone's dad.

Is the Blockland dev here? I am not sure on the specifics, but I once looked into buying the game and was hit with a wave of controversy on the devs habbits, and how he released private and personal information of a player (purchasing records and such) since the player annoyed him to some degree. I can't remember the exact specifics but it is probably worth looking into.

I'm sure they don't give a tin **** about a developer tanking his own sales. What they should care about is giving an obvious abuser a platform to not only distribute his garbage, as well as allowing him to strong arm their user base.

Someone posted a 6 year old review of Galcom from IGN, which it was scored a 6/10, using it as proof that the game is good. I had to laugh a little at that. I notice that a good number of people defending Smart's games are private profiles.

If I wore a tinfoil cap I might think they were people being compensated to speak praise of a game without providing any proof they not just own the game... but really have played it.

And naturally they have a nice conversation about how the scoring system totally makes the game look bad "by todays scoring standard".

Well, I finally got banned from the GCESSE forum (I know, I'm late to the party with that one). All for making a joke. To that I respond with:

I made this tongue-in-cheek post, hoping that anyone with a sense of humor, would recognize it as such: humor. I was wrong to assume this.

The thing that really needs to be addressed here is Valve's own lack of interest. One would think they would be interested in this. Derek Smart has used the logic that being a customer does not entitle you to be critical of a product... yet apparently his being a "Developer" entitles him to treat anyone he sees as a "troll" like garbage... even if they have bought his awful games.

Valve really needs to take a moment to look at this guy and see just what they are supporting.

I'd say if somebody got ahold of either a Kotaku or Destructoid and tell them the story (even if many people hate those website, and i've seen a bunch of people say they do, it WOULD get the word out).

I wish some major gaming media outlet would do a story on this whole thing. The story is there. You've got censorship of opinion, banning of users, locking of well reasoned threads, deleting of posts, threatening to sue people, and complete disregard for the gender of a person. That last one makes me think that RPS would be a good one to write an article, as they are into writing about that kind of stuff.

I'd suggest Derek Smart actually read up a bit on legalese if he's going to be threatening every random person he comes across. Nobody is slandering Derek Smart, due to the fact the slander is only through the spoken word.
