The Krakusi regiment was a Polish regiment in the French army which Napoleon trusted more than even the imperial guard cavalry. He was about to cross into Russia when a group of peasants appeared. He laughed and called them his pygmy soldiers(due to the small horses they rode). Soon the emporer asked them to prove themselves. The peasants could outrun and out-maneuver even the cossacks. They were so skilled that they could pick up a stone with their lance. They were a valuable asset in Russia.
