The Kingdom of Bavaria was a country in Central Europe. It originated in the peace treaty concluded on December 26, 1805 at the Peace of Pressburg between the plenipotentiaries of the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and the German and Austrian emperor Franz. On January 1, 1806, the proclamation of King Maximilian I Joseph took place in Munich.

The national territory included the Electorate of Bavaria, numerous secularized old Bavarian areas such as Passau, Berchtesgaden and the Rupertiwinkel, the Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine and large parts of Franconia and Swabia.

The kingdom existed until 1918, when its last king Ludwig III. left the country due to the November Revolution at the end of the First World War and fled to Hungary in exile.
