A short history

The Grand Duchy of Lithuania at its height stretched from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. It once made the Russians fearful.

The Grand Duchy of Lithuania stopped the Mongol advance into Europe on the Battlefield where as the Russians in Muscovy submitted. The Grand Duchy fought and defeated the Teutonic knights in battle, they occupied Poland, and defeated Military forces of the Ottomans.

They eventually merged with Poland in what is now called the Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania, created when the King of Lithuania married the princess of Poland.

The commonwealth was the first nation to establish a modern republic, the only difference between its rules and the US being that they had a king instead of a president (and the kings powers were limited like the presidents). The founding fathers of the United States modeled the constitution after this government.

The end of this magnificent empire came when it was invaded on three seperate fronts (Russia to the East, Ottomans to the south, and Austrians/Germans to the west). The nation, a fraction of its original size, was finally defeated by the Russians.

Yet the nation fought hard and gained indipendence for a short period during WWII when it revolted from the soviets, was occupied by the Germans, and Later fell yet again to the Soviets. Yet the national identity was reborn in those few days of indipendence, and Lithuania was the first country to succesfully revolt against the soviets.

This page is in memory of the greatness of that nation in the past, it is a memory to the horrors of Soveit and German occupation, and it is a page that hopes for the future of this rapidly growing new western power
