Goodbye TeamSpeak, Hello Mumble!

For many years, TeamSpeak has been the go-to tool for gamers to communicate with each other. However new kid on the block Mumble has recently arrived, sporting much less lag and far better audio quality than TeamSpeak.

We're going to be migrating from TeamSpeak to Mumble. Here's all the info you need to know:

Why are we changing?

The change from TeamSpeak to Mumble is part of a larger re-organisation of our setup which allows us to increase functionality and stability, while at the same time reducing our monthly costs. We recently started renting a new TF2 server from Multiplay, and with this TF2 server, we got a free 26-slot Mumble server too.

Are there any disadvantages?

In short, no. Mumble is a much newer tool and therefore its interface leaves quite a lot to be desired at times, but it is a powerful tool which sports most features that TeamSpeak does. The UI is very similar so it's very easy to pick up if you're a veteran user of TeamSpeak like me.

Sounds great, where do I get started?

Firstly, you'll need to download Mumble here.

Once downloaded and installed, launch Mumble, and go Server -> Connect. When the servers dialog opens, press Add New..., and enter the following information:

Label: Evil Twins
Address: 85.236.100.59
Port: 5987
Username: (Your name goes here)

Hit OK, and then Connect. You'll join the server and initially you'll be placed on the "Root" channel, similar to the Lobby channel from TeamSpeak. Join a channel by double-clicking it, and start chatting!

New TF2 Server + Mumble!

We've launched a new TF2 server, hosted by Multiplay!

The new server has been launched to eliminate lag and server crashes once and for all. It's part of a larger re-structuring designed to improve the stability and performance of our setup, while at the same time reducing the monthly costs. Stats has been enabled on the new server, and most of the configs have been transferred too. However bear in mind that some configs haven't been copied completely yet, so bear with us while we get the initial teething issue sorted out - as always, report any bugs, issues or suggestions in the forums.

The old server will remain online until July 12th, after which it will be shutdown. The new bind for VIPs/Admins to use the reserve slot is as follows:

bind F11 "connect 85.236.100.14:27015"

Please note that since the Pyromania update there has been an issue with SourceMod that has caused random server crashes. Multiplay has rolled out a new release of SM which is designed to fix the crashes, but there may still be slight stability issues. We're working with Multiplay to ensure this gets sorted ASAP and the SourceMod devs are working hard to ensure the plugin runs smoothly too - but please bear with us if there are still a couple of crashes here and there while SourceMod gets updated and stable again.

With our new TF2 server also comes our new Mumble server, which can be found at the following address:

85.236.100.59:5987

This Mumble server will be replacing our TeamSpeak server which will also shutdown on July 12th. Mumble offers significant improvements over TeamSpeak with regard to lag and audio quality.
