Reborn, reforged, renewed!

It is unfortunate that my first post in a long time will also likely be my last. CPoG was shut down several years ago, as some of you may remember, but I recreated the group for new members who wished to enjoy the facilities for socially gaming together. My server has always been free to use, secure and completely private. I have treated it as a business and tried to maintain uptime and requested game severs or features. It's been a friendly place, not just for gaming, but socially too. I even met several new people during this time and things were going very well, I thought.

Sadly, CPoG is no longer wanted or required by that group. They have moved on from CPoG and wish to remain outside of my circle of friends. The close nature of some of those friendships, including people I've known almost two decades, makes this news even sadder, but people are fickle and I respect their wish to leave.

I do not fully understand why, even now, but I will not dwell on it. Suffice to say that when people don't communicate, the relationship is over. Apparently, the seeds of doubt were planted around 8 months ago and things have progressed far beyond reason now. I include this purely for context.

So, what of CPoG now? Well, it lays dormant once again. The server itself is getting on for 9 years old and could use updating. I still use it for personal chat and as a media NAS, but I do not feel the need for online services at this point. Those involved with the conspiracies had their certificates revoked 6 months ago and as of writing this, only two of them attempted contact since. That tells me all I need to know.

If you believe there is value still in the CPoG community, please get in touch. I will not take action for the rest of this month, which leaves more than enough time, should people wish to persuade me otherwise. Personally, the server owes nothing and has no obligation to exist. Friendships were gained and lost and a lot of great times were had, but I'm tired of the fickle nature of remote chat, especially with strangers online. Even people I have met in the flesh can become that, over time. With people out of work right now, if CPoG was wanted, that's where people would be. I believe my time is better served with building my own relationship and enjoying my home. I'll miss it, but I can't express what a relief it is not to have the responsibility.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I regret that I am unable to use Discord or Skype, moving forward, due to incompatibility with my soundcard and security concerns. Thus, it is unlikely that I will be engaging in any further multiplayer gaming over WAN outside of a very short list of people. There are literally hundreds of single player games I now finally get to play through. I might be proved wrong and be persuaded to throw money at the server and keep the doors open, but I'm pretty confident it's died for the last time now.
