Hey Fury, thanks for your answer. I do understand well why these mentions are here and I see that you've taken precautions which is great. I know that you are careful with that stuff and I appreciate it. But getting mentions 2-4 times a day while you're working or while I play something else is off-putting. Especially about something like bug hunt where a "quick round" is an investment of 2 to 3 hours. : ) I have set the notification thing to none but I still got the sound (maybe that's a different setting, dunno). I'll just give this group thing some time, I'm sure it will work out and Valve's gonna get it in order.

[] Greetings everyone,
Thanks very much for your feedback. Our decision about that replacement will obviously be approved by some players and won't be others, we do know this, but we had to make a choice and we really (and always will) pay attention to all reactions & feedbacks. That choice is not a choice against TeamSpeak or Discord (we like both, we really do) but it's about having a new & promising version of a tool (maybe not perfect for now, of course, but as you may know, we're undeniably far away from its final version) that became richer and being full part of that Steam area. We simply don't wish to split everything & everyone everywhere.

About the notifications of the Group Chat we make sure that no abuse occurs and there's none for now. All old and new Group Chat users know they can freely use such tags when necessary. And, anyways, such options are made for people looking for others in order to play. And this is precisely the reason why these people join Steam Groups, mostly. So as long as such tags are used by members wishing to play, there's no problem with that. Of course, options are still missing but check your Alarm icon (up-right corner called "Manage Notifications Settings") giving access to a menu called 'Notify me for...".

Well, a little bit blind maybe, I'm afraid ^^
There's always an access on the right side of the homepage (aka "overview" section) of any Steam Group. Which means since April 2013 for that one. The announcement above has been edited and a screenshot has been added. By the way here is a direct invitation
(perma link) to the Group Chat you can share with people.
Thanks again for your feedback, mates.
All the Best.

Am I blind? Where can we actually join the chat? :p where's the link?!

Perhaps Valve are going for an ease of access. Personally speaking I never could get to grips with how discord handles its friend requests and all the faffing around you've got to do just to join a group. Anything that makes that shit easy's got my instant vote.

I personally like Discord a lot, have been on it for what feels like ages now. I think Valve is doing something very similar (it looks a lot like it) but they cannot keep up feature-wise yet (for example the constant Mentioning with sound cannot be muted, one of the reasons I left the Aliens Bughunt group for now...) :(

roger wilco < ts < ventrilo < ts, my history of programs voice online, best sound and low ping in each moment. The other programs always or bad sound or high ping, is simply. Actually im not hardocre im not can play multiplayer free, and i dont know what is the best now, but ts works hard for community of players. I loved ventrilo but ventrilo no loves me, then bye. i dont know discord, another program nisupu used free, Free always have a bad news, always. Bye

You should have just went with Discord. The majority of PC gamers are invested in the platform, Discord has been top dog for voice comms and gaming community hubs for years now. The reason TS never took off is because nobody wanted to deal with different clients, and TS had begun to wane in 2015 due in large to the launch of Discord.
