The Second Infantry Division "California Bears" is a unit assembled by the United States Army of predominantly young servicemen from the state of California and is currently engaged in the combatance of Axis movement in the European theatre during this second great war.

There are no 2nd chances on the battlefield. Only the 2nd Infantry Division.

Victory Under the Grey Sky

Good work, 2nd. That was one tough battle on Sunday, but we weathered the confusion, the enemy, and the environment well enough to come out on top. We all recognized the do or die nature of the situation our squad was placed in throughout the engagement, and that fear inspired some impressive work from every man, at one point or another in the battle.

Although weapon slot restrictions have not turned out to be an issue when battling against The Enforcers, I still want you all to continue developing your individual weapons proficiencies with different firearms, as those may not always be the scrimmage conditions we will be playing under. Please refer to the "Weapons Proficiency" announcement from early last month.

We certainly were not able to execute or communicate at the level we wanted to, but our victory in spite of that says something about our fundamental strength and tenacity. It certainly was exciting to have as many boys on the field as we did at the start, and I expect that number to continue increasing for our future battles. I hope those of you who participated ended up having a good time, despite the stress that is inherent to combat. There's still work to be done, and I hope you've been reflecting on our performance, but be proud of what we've accomplished.

Re-Engagement

Good evening, gentlemen, we've scheduled a rematch scrimmage with T-E (The Enforcers) the weekend after Labor Day weekend. Since we selected our map our first battle, they have selected the map this time. We will be fighting on Thunder, the original Day of Defeat's version of Donner, taken to Source. Like the Jagd battle, this is supposed to be a pretty low-key, fun competition, but I'll guarantee you that it'll be intense throughout, but it'll turn out fun. 2 twenty-minute halves, one on each side - we shall be choosing which side to deploy on first. They'll match however many men we can muster. As of right now, the scrimmage will land on Sunday, September 12 at 1600 hours, PST. I want all California Bears that can make it there!

Albeit low-key, we still should try to bring our best game to them with our signature strategization. Since this is on a different version of a stock map that we know, we need to prepare for it differently than we have in the past. Tackle the following primary objectives:

1. Download Thunder from here: http://www.legendarygamers.net/index.php?name=Downloads&get=44 . Then place the unzipped BSP map file in your DoD:S map folder, typically found at the following pathway:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\ACCOUNT NAME\day of defeat source\dod\maps

2. Now that you have the map, we all have pre-practice homework; this is mandatory: Since we don't have our own server and Thunder is rarely featured on any server, I want everyone to create their own game in the DoD:S main menu with dod_thunder_b3 as the map. Study the environment alone for no less than 30 minutes. Note the obvious differences to environment (i.e. overcast sky) and what that does to your muzzle flash. Check out room lighting, the new rooms around Allied first and second flags, and the altered sniper positions overwatching tank.

3. I want all non-commissioned officers (ranks Corporal and above) to come to practice over the upcoming week and a half with at least two suggestions or considerations concerning new map elements to share with the squad, whether that be newly found positions or what to avoid doing in-game. Privates are encouraged to brainstorm as well, naturally. I want any squadmate who is planning to participate in the scrimmage to attend at least one of the three scheduled practices, which will be held on random, empty Donner servers, bearing Thunder in mind, and posted as events here on Steam. Don't come to practice without having done the individual Thunder study!

It seems like a lot, fellas, but, really, steps 1 and 2 take about 35 minutes total. Let's maintain our good name and take care of some serious business.
