Quit after the 7th cut scene in 5 mins and the first weapon you get you put on your side and it floats with no scabbard.

Gothic is a masterpiece.

However, Gothic could be remade for modern games, but it's not. It looks like Gothic, but it doesn't sound like Gothic. It has no heart. The Gothic atmosphere is not there.

Some points.

I'm not a fan of the intro changes, but it makes sense that the Exchange Zone was expanded with an elevator from the original Gothic intro, just like Gothic 2. The original plaza didn't serve a purpose in Gothic 1. I preferred the "rude awakening" of the original Gothic, where the hero was literally thrown into a prison, but it makes sense that he fell into an elevator and I like that. But you have to bring back Bullitt and his warm welcome to the Colony.

The tradition was expanded. One thing about Gothic was that each game existed on its own, there was no prequel or expansion of lore. Diego talks about his life before the Colony, there's a recipe from Cape Dun.

Most of the animation is good and there's plenty of it. People move when you talk to them. For example, Dragon Age 2, a big budget game, had very few animations and they got stale really quickly. I liked the unique animations like when they took the burnt sword out of Rufus' body and turned his body into dust.

- No Pyrokar in the intro. I understand Diego explaining the scroll, but it would have been better to have him still in the intro. But then I see what you did there. You tried to make the computer not be the chosen one from the start. But you have to see that if he has a different scroll, it is important. I don't see why Pyrokar couldn't give the same speech as Diego, basically saying that the scroll is indestructible and will be delivered by you or whoever finds your body.

- No Bullitt and no punch in the face. That introduced us to what a colony is. You won't see the real monsters until a little later. Your first interaction with the prison is with other prisoners and those who are being bullied.

Players are not stupid. When you are in a dangerous area, you don't need the computer to say "Let's get out of here". And BTW, it should say "I need to get out of here", not "Let's". Nobody says Let's to each other. Let's is a shortened version of "Let us", always more than one person.

- He says ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ too often. If anything, he should say something in space. Beliar blew it. Or something. Ideally nothing. Not everything needs a comment.

- NH has too long a tongue, as already said. And during his ramblings he will imply that he is a thief, that there was a low-risk, high-paying job and he took it. That is wrong. As far as lore goes, MH has long since ceased to exist before coming to Khorinis. It hasn't been confirmed, but NH is an avatar of Adanos, sent there to deal with Sleeper, which is a Beliar beast, which gives him an advantage in the war of the gods. NH simply CANNOT have a past. And he certainly can't be a thief. It's your choice to be a thief.

- As mentioned, this NH is supposedly a thief caught by the guards, so he existed in the universe before his arrest, but he doesn't know the snapper, one of the most common creatures in the world. He first asks (himself) what they are when 3 attack him, and then asks again when Bloodwyn sends him to kill one. That doesn't make sense. Make NH a whole new person so he knows as much as the player.

- The snappers were too slow to take him down. They are depicted as ferocious creatures, and in the original game you don't kill any until Chapter 3 yourself. You have no chance against 3 until about chapter 5 and even then they can outsmart you.

-The monsters are too weak. Once you get a weapon, they're no match. Wolf goes down in 2 swings? Scavenger in 3? First of all, where are the molerats and young scavengers? And scavengers shouldn't be that strong. Can't you beat one in the original until about level 4-5 and a wolf? Forget it, wolves are kind of critters by chapter 3. There's no way I'd beat a pack of 5 wolves at level 0. That's nonsense

- Horrible dialogue round. Gothic was one of the first to have full lines of dialogue listed and voiced. Don't take a page from BioWare and Bethesda games. List dialogue all the way through. And get rid of "X will remember". No ♥♥♥♥, it's a game of choices and consequences. I don't need that.

I think the UI is too modern. It's more like Dragon Age: Inquisition. It doesn't fit the rough feel of Gothic. Gothic 1 was more of a leather bound book, character skills looked like they were hand written, same with quests and journal. It needs to be less technological. More handwritten font, textured backgrounds, less clean and pristine. And the menu sound effects are too modern too. It needs to be metal hitting metal, grinding stones. No sounds and beeps.

- There are invisible walls. NH can't climb the stairs in the temple. Get rid of that. I should be able to climb any small ledge or jump over a fence. I can't even jump into the lake at the beginning of the game. Invisible walls around the lake.

- There's no lock picking minigame. And NH can pick locks from the start?! And sneaking? It's better to be for demo purposes only. I really liked the Risen lockpicking, it was a good mix of modern and gothic.

- There is swearing in the game. Gothic 1, 2, 3 and Risen 1 managed to get by without swearing. I generally don't mind it, I swear a lot, but if the original could have done without it, it's best to stick with it.

- The music is very generic. Can't you get closer to KaiRo? Or at least use his music. The music is not depressing enough. It fits more in Jarkenar than in the Valley of the Down. You need harsh instruments like horns and drums. This music is too promising.

In other words, it has potential, but it needs A LOT of work.

PS: The game is better than the Remake that just came out and it's pretty sad that this one is better.. It's not as detailed, but it surpasses the remake that came out in everything, where the recommended 4070 is needed

I am very much looking forward to Remake. This teaser shows that the game has a lot of potential and will most likely be a success provided all the awful bugs are ironed out (and this teaser contains a lot of bugs- literally and figuratively).
