We are pleased to announce the next major update for Robot Rumble 2! This update brings with it massive improvements to menu loading times - particularly for people with hundreds of bots - as well as squashing a fair number of bugs and introducing our next, highly requested, major feature: Undo/Redo in the BotLab!

This has easily been one of the most requested features for the game, and one we have been working on getting right for a while now. Such a seemingly small feature can sometimes turn out to be a much bigger puzzle to solve than originally anticipated, but we are proud to finally have this cracked and in the hands of our players!

A quick look at the new informational tooltips for the component categories.Alongside the new Undo/Redo system we have introduced the first of our systems for improving the onboarding experience for new roboteers tackling the task of building their own combat machine for the first time: the Tooltip system! We have included lots of information to many of the buttons in the BotLab to give a set of mini-tutorials on how all the component types work together and hints on how to use them. Rest assured that we are taking player feedback on and still working on more ways to help teach this game to new roboteers. More news on what we are working on soon.

Bots built by @squawkingchickenrobotics on the RR2 Discord.Our resident arena designer has been hard at work improving and updating the default arenas adding in new backstage areas, improving the audio and graphical effects, updating the lighting, and even completely rebuilding the US style arena from scratch. In the previous couple of Dev Diaries we have hinted at this work and shown some previews, so be sure to keep reading those in the future for more sneak peaks at what we are working on. We have some very exciting news in the next one, so be sure to come back and take a peek in a couple weeks time.

⚠️ - The first time you load in to a folder this might take a little longer due to needing to update the botfiles within to the latest version, after that first load though you should see the optimisation kick in.

[Change] Spinners now only slow down by the damage they apply, so a giant hit to cardboard will not take 80kj out of the spinner, instead it will obliterate the cardboard and stay spinning at near max speed.
This improves the ablative effect of weaker materials like plastics, reducing the throw effect. It will also increase damage output, as spinners will keep much more speed.
