Not for solo and no, your not built different.

This shows promise but it needs a lot of work before I would recommend it. The first few hours are a good time with friends but not much content beyond that. If your interested in this game, wait till its on sale for cheap or give it a few years and buy it when its worth your time and money because right now, its not.

Should a barely playable alpha cost more then a better mod for a free game? Probably not. A lot of people will go on forever on the potential of this "game" but fact of the matter is there is no game, just 20$ burned in the night (more if you didn't get it on sale).

So first things first, I know this game is in an alpha as of current, but even as such there is something that need to be fixed, adjust, looked at or overhauled. However, this game does a lot of things right.

In the good side; The guns and game-play of this mod (for an alpha) is amazing. The guns and gore compliment each other excellently. The guns are loud, punchy, smooth and tactical animations, they look extremely accurate to their real world counterparts (from the knowledge I have from other games and a couple friends of mine), and the effects on targets and the environment reminds me of the original F.E.A.R, Selaco and Trepang2 alongside other Woo shooters. The enemy variety is pretty good for an alpha and the enemies are fun to shoot, none of them are too spongy and the ones that are tanky-ish are mutants/anomalies. The level design in the FIRST Act (I will talk about the other two later), is excellent. Albeit, the portion after the final armory is a bit...lacking? But that is the only issue in that Act.

However, like most alphas, this game has some issues and things that should be looked at. Firstly, Act 2 as a whole needs better sign posting and more clear notes on the entity. My friend and I walked around for around an hour unlocking all secrets thinking the lvl 2 keycard would be hidden behind something in the security offices and guard post station. Makes sense right? However, it was in the backstage areas. "How do you get in the backstage areas if the entity is there?" You maybe asking...Simple, you stick behind cover in the row seats, but the game directly tells you the presence of the entity is too strong to be close to, which would make you think, even behind cover you weren't safe. However, behind cover...you're completely immune to a telepathic screen entity... I understand its whole gimmick is line of sight in the very literal sense (having to face it), but you could've done something a bit different here and make the little tip more clear. A suggestion I have for this is having guards in the room with the 3 cylinder screens in the center of the room and have a safe spot you would enter into from the hallway, and the screens get corrupted by the entity and the guards freak out and their heads pop. This would directly show you what it does, what the effect is, and possibly how to counter it. In the theater rooms, could have it so you could be in there for only around a minute or 2 whilst behind cover before it kills you due to it and I quote "The Entity's presence is too strong..." making the projector way more required and possibly even means to save a teammate. Otherwise, Act 2 is fine. It's needing some touch ups, and maybe more combat in general, but otherwise its not bad. A step down from Act 1 though.

Act 3 is complete utter garbage. Currently, at the time of writing, Act 3 is the final one... and it ends on a really low note. In Act 1 you (the player) are introduced to mutant plants that fire bone stakes at you. For some reason these are hitscan and can 1 shot you (this is a tactical shooter, so I wouldn't really expect less), but these should've been just a projectile that you could dodge with it moving at a medium pace, enough to dodge at a distance, but up close not so much. Nonetheless, this is the main enemy you are fighting... Also, you fight a grand total of 4 enemies in this Act... Act 2 has the excuse of an Entity corrupting and using screens to murder everything in its area of influence, what is the excuse here? Could have had the crabs be eating away at them in certain locations early on or the mutant chicken humanoids ripping away at them defending the nest. They sort of hint the chicken humanoids being brought back with some areas covered in fleshy stuff, but they never do bring them back... Which is a let down, cause they're shockingly fun to fight despite being rather 1 note. They barely bring back the D-Class personnel as you fight like a grand total of 10, maybe 15 at most... Which is odd cause you're fighting in a prison towards the end of Act 3. Which towards the end of Act 3 it turns into a glorified time trial... in a non-challenge mode, in the base campaign of a tactical shooter... WHY?! Who thought this was a good idea? Hey, remember those timed based events in COD? Yeah, this is basically the same and it feels cheap when you failed. Especially when earlier they established the plants merged with mutant flowers, with blue bulbs you got to shoot. Shoot multiple smaller bulbs, hear a sound cue, shoot the big bulb. Simple enough? Problem, these smaller bulbs can be rather hidden and hard to see especially in the timed area with the water rising. Each time me and my friend failed there, it felt like I failed artificially, and it wasn't our fault. Felt like the game screwed us there. Then after that was the most unfair gunfight I've ever seen in a tactical shooter... In the water area, on the stairs, no cover surrounded by guards in the hallways, some even got snipers which can 1 hit you out of no where. My suggestion for Act 3 would be a complete overhaul. Let the humanoid chickens return and show them infighting with the guards and crabs, let D-Class have a holdout spot and fighting against zombies, maybe humanoid chickens. Really show that Area 12 is falling apart and going into pure chaos, sort of an idea from Half Life's Black Mesa.

Some other suggestions I have are; The AI needs work, it is an alpha so I understand, but I suggest taking look at the AI of games of like F.E.A.R, Selaco, Trepang2 and similar of the like. AI like that in this game, would be simply amazing. While yes, they give call-outs and do flank sometimes, they'll more often than not just stand in place instead of trying to flank or providing suppressing fire and the times they do move and shoot, they're 100% accurate and sometimes just be plain aim-bots. Had one occasion where one dude was trying to shoot through bullet proof glass and he didn't move... At all. Next, I find it odd the 610 zombies don't have any other variants, some are armored, and have helmets, but their attacks boil down to; run and smack you. That's all... 610 has so many variants to the infections, its unreal, would be awesome to see some larger forms that spit out acid or other ranged attacks. Another suggestion, I would say is doing the thing that F.E.A.R, Selaco and Trepang2 do when combat arenas occur, have it be a multiplayer combat arena, let the enemies investigate the area, chatter, etc and let the player get the drop on them for arenas it makes sense in. I would also love to see a Desert Eagle in this game too, I feel as if this would be a game it'd be perfect in, as it could be a good in-between the 500 MAG and Stealth-Hawk 44 MAG. I would also like to see a system where certain SMGs and all Rifles do more damage to armored targets (Guards, Armored Zombies, certain mutants/SCPs, etc) and most SMGs, Pistols and Revolvers do more damage against fleshy targets (D-Class, most mutants/SCPs and Zombies, etc). Both doing less damage towards the opposite (so weapons with AP capabilities doing less damage against fleshy targets, and vice versa), shotguns however, being the mixed bag to not having a damage bonus to armored or fleshy targets. I feel as if that'll give another layer of depth to the combat and weaponry.

Otherwise, that's all for this review. This game has MASSIVE potential to be one of best tactical horror shooters out there, possibly one of the best ones in general. As of current, this game is a solid 7/10. However, I'll probably revise my review once this game gets released to 1.0... Whenever that'll be.

Some area feel a little barren but for an Alpha version this is amazing, you should try it out for yourself

While its in alpha and is quite rough around the edges with a few bugs and hilarious glitches this game is still miles ahead of nearly anything else I've played let alone scp games.

Weapon feel in this game is amazing, guns float and sway fluidly when hip firing or brace firing and the aiming mechanics feel realistic being rigid but not incredibly so. Even the weapon modification system serves more than one role as add ons like flash lights can help you explore or save your life without firing a single shot.

+Threatening/challenging enemies and anomalies
+Truly unique and interesting exploration
+Immersive horror
While immersing you in this universe and firmly grounding you in it, this game does not pull ANY punches treating you as it does its own NPCs and characters. In short it always threatens you without ever really making you feel completely powerless.

This enemy doesn't have much to contribute to the game, its a archetypal brute but it dies fairly quickly and visually is not much different from the chickens (who are more numerous and deadly) maybe we should limit it's spawns and make it bigger and more menacing. Or at least add more challenge to it than just running in and charging you, like picking off lone squad mates or luring you into certain areas to kill you quicker.

yeah its in alpha, just report them and let the devs do their jobs or figure out why it happened.
>Respawn carryover
When you die you dont respawn with your actual gun and certain items will drop and soft lock you out of your game, either disable this feature and have the players "go down" instead of dying or make respawning more user (and lore) friendly
>Lag
Sometimes encounter lag, nothing world shattering or even detrimental to the game experience. But its still something we could do without so its here.
-Health
Not being able to pick up med kits or bandages to use later while annoying is also immersion breaking, I'd recommend implementing some kind of management system, it doesnt need to be incredibly complex but make it hard to spam healing in the middle of a fight.

-heavy lack of story
If you didnt read content outside of the game, you'd have no clue what was going on in game or why. We need a more cohesive story and plot to follow. This will probably come later but i figure it should be mentioned early. For example why are we just in some random room in area 12? How did we get there who are we etc.

-lack of interesting characters and sub plots
Besides CROW I cant think of one actual character in this game, just groups and factions.

-AI and NPC interaction
Sometimes the AI is way too good, sometimes they just decide to run up a flight of stairs direct into your line of fire. Which is fine for zombies, but for the more human characters a little bit of intelligence should be observed. We need a more happy medium between instant ko shot to the head and walking up to me and volunteering for lead collection.

Maybe even have diffrent characters have diffrent behaviors, like d class running from the player and begging for their lives, foundation acting more cohesive and tactical, zombies being brain dead, etc.


-Fast pace introduction of scps
We need a little more foreshadowing and introduction of some of the enemies and anomalies we encouter, we dont need a explanation per say. But just popping up out of nowhere isnt ideal either.

The amount of content here is very impressive & the gunplay feels fantastic. It's still in EA, and it feels like some features were just barely implemented such as the loadout UI and character customization.

Runs great and is very spooky.

The game is kinda the inverse of what you'd expect from an early access game.

1. It is extremely optimized (file size is maybe double what it should be, but the game runs, boots up, and loads things absurdly smoothly)
2. The soundscape is AMAZING. The audio engineering people did a stellar job.
3. The game looks gorgeous. The game is stunning and every SCP is absolutely terrifying.
4. The game remarkably stable. I encountered very few bugs or even frame drops with the bulk of them being during Chapter 3.

The problem though is the game's map and puzzle design is so atrocious and cumbersome that sometimes it feels like the game is trying to make sure you can't refund it. The environments are gorgeously designed, but can be far too big and have tiny unmarked objective items HIDDEN throughout them. SCP 5K can feel like a backtracking simulator at times. You have a hotkey to show interactable objects,

If you REALLY are into SCP, it's definitely worth playing (it's how we kept going). Otherwise, just get it on sale and play with a friend.

Our biggest points of feedback are probably:

Too many doors to make backtracking easier are unlockable only after you've had to do a lot of backtracking already.

What is and isn't interactable can be hard to distinguish. In Chapter 2, especially, what doors can be opened by what keycard level isn't consistent. The locations and uses of key items can also be difficult to determine at first glance. The "T" vision is kinda iffy at best. There are also many doors which can be opened and identical doors which can't. Some of these doors are mandatory and some lead to empty rooms. It sorta can feel like an old DOS shooter, ramming yourself into any vaguely interactable door and hoping you CAN open it. Chapter 2 struggles the most from all of this.

Too many objectives point to areas of the map that are labeled incorrectly or provide instructions so far away from what you're actually supposed to do that they border on malicious design. For the MANY objectives which want you to find the solution in the environment, a vague "find a way to X" would be better than a specific but wildly incorrect label instead.

There is also the opposite where there are many objectives which are TOO vague to the point of just being inaccurate. You'll be tasked with making a sandwich or whatever and end up having to fix your car so you can drive to the library and check out a book on raising fish. You'll be doing all these side objectives and end up confused on how they relate to your objective (they sometimes just... don't.)

There is a pretty inconsistent use of environmental puzzles. The worst example is Chapter 1 is full to the brim of using your environment to your advantage (avoiding hazards, completing puzzles, making fights easier). You do absolutely none of it ever again (with the sole exception of shooting a breaker box to lift a lockdown at the very end of the final chapter) This feels weird since a lot of the electronic puzzles from Chapter 1 would have been PERFECT for Chapter 2.

I absolutely LOVE the little info kiosks talking about the design process of each area, SCP interactions, and even future development plans. The smallest thing that has bugged me was that you can't read the first one because you have a death statue coming from behind you if you were to stand in front of it to read it. It's such a shame too since you're given a break from dealing with it right after too!

Oh and during Chapter 3, you have to get into a firefight at sniper range with MTF soldiers. You're given shotguns if you die, in the respawn room, and littered about. You either get instantly killed or fight, at sniper range, with a shotgun or pistol.

I enjoy playing this one, fun gameplay, different modes and maps, fun community. Its lacking in content at the moment being in early access, but its being worked on with more planned content in the near future. looking forward to the future of this game, looking solid though.
