Quake Champions is like a girl you’re vibing with, laughing together, having nice conversations, but the moment you try to spend more time with her, she starts acting like she wants nothing to do with you.

I want to like this game. I mean, it’s good. The movement is fun, the atmosphere is on point... but that’s just it. It’s only good. Once you start looking deeper, the flaws begin to surface.

If you want to play competitively, man, good luck. The game tries to scratch that itch, but it never quite gets there. Optimal performance is still an issue. Game can feel really smooth at times, but also can be noticeably clunky, laggy or just off in some weird sense.

If you just want a casual arena shooter, though, this game is a solid option. You can play against bots and still earn XP and achievements, just like you would against real players.

One last thing. This game has the most beautiful achievement icons I’ve ever seen on Steam. I’ve showcased them on my profile, and I love how they look. I wish more games put this much effort into their icons.
