I haven't won anything even though I'm far in the game

I know this has been asked a lot and I've been doing a little digging myself. I understand that the Steam version has the anime cutscenes and the new dungeons which I've heard they are somewhat a throwaway. However, I care a lot about the characters and I've heard that the new translation is included in this version which takes away the accent that a character named Frog has which takes away from his personality. Are there any mods that can help with this and customize it to make it as close to perfect? ...

I've heard a lot of negative things about this port over the years, but I also heard a lot of the issues got fixed in updates. I never played Chrono Trigger, and I've heard that the DS version is better, but would this version be fine for a first playthrough?...

Who ever put this game up should get their eyes fixed. Looks like someone put vasoline over their eyes. Why?
