We're 1/12th of the way through 2022 - how're things?
Just a small update to address a few things. As always, keep sending us your feedback and help get the word out about our unique and fun little Rogue-FPS hybrid.

The Pit: Infinity v1.2.2.8932

Changes:
- Damaged doors can now be destroyed.
- Adjustments to bed/sleeping heal rate to better find the balance between takes-too-long and so-fast-its-OP.
- Adjustments to standard health generation rate.
- Increased damage from shotgun-style weapons.
- Various balancing tweaks.

It's the holiday season again, and before we take a few days off to decompress, we wanted to put some time into updating The Pit: Infinity. And as a little treat for the holidays, we've changed ammo crates to gift boxes, which will always open and you always get something good! These are just for the holidays though, so enjoy them while you can.

- Stackable items (e.g. Med Patches) display total count in inventory, and behave as grenades do in the quick/hot bar.
- Quick/hot bar given a memory, so empty slots can be auto-populated when picking up items previously in the slots.

Fixed:
- Event Log on HUD would sometimes become permanently hidden.
- Improved effectiveness of rocket launcher.
- Improved effectiveness of Cyberjaeger Bear plasma attacks.
- Zuul Lord "standing still" during final battle has been addressed.
- Text for airlocks on final floor no longer say "Going up/down to Floor 20".

Changed:
- Explosion effect for explosive ammo have been toned down from Way Too Big to Much More Reasonable.

Sorta Fixed / WIP:
- To address the "infinite loading bug", if loading takes too long (45 seconds), the user is able to force continuing with the game. (Diagnostic file generated.)
- Plugged hole in hallway floor caused by some random floor layouts. (Diagnostic file generated.)
Please send these diagnostic files to us if possible, as it will help us determine exactly what the issue is so we can crush it.

We will continue to update PI, though less frequently than the first year the game came out. Keep sharing the word on PI, letting people know about it and when it's on sale (like right now), as the lifetime of a game is directly related to people's continued interest in it.

Kerberos Productions, the makers of Sword of the Stars, have released a new tabletop simulation game for the PC. Hoards of Glory is a Viking-themed strategy game of dice placement, economy and combat for 1-4 players. Playable by up to four friends via the Internet, it also offers a variety of AI opponents to fill in when human opponents are not available.

Hoards of Glory is the first stand-alone simulation of a tabletop game that Kerberos has released. Their previous tabletop projects, The Pit: The Board Game and Planetary Control, were both modeled using the popular Tabletop Simulator software. Why make a stand-alone product now?

"Tabletop Simulator was a good place for us to start," says developer Chris Gerspacher. "Our version of The Pit: The Board Game on TTS is a popular download and earned us a Steam Community Award. But I found there were limitations to the platform, and it was expensive for newbies. If people didn't already own a copy of TTS it was costing them over $20 to buy the software so they could try a virtual version of Planetary Control or The Pit. I thought we could create a better model of the game and lower that price point if we built something by hand."

Why create a tabletop game using the Unreal Engine? "We are always curious to see what Unreal could do when faced with an unusual challenge," says Kerberos CEO Martin Cirulis. "First we threw randomized terrain and adaptive layouts at UE4 with our game The Pit: Infinity. Now we have discovered it is able to handle the physics of rolling dice and falling coins like a champ and we have had no problem giving the game multiple AI personalities. Unreal also stepped up to the challenges of multiplayer for a tabletop simulation very well. We can have AI's play alongside humans seamlessly or have an AI player drop in if a human player has to drop out."

Why make a tabletop game that's only available for PC? "We missed Game Night!" says Kerberos COO Chris Stewart. "Since the COVID restrictions began in March, everyone has been working remotely. We can't meet friends and go to the pub or a game store to roll dice anymore, and we couldn't take a prototype of Hoards of Glory to Origins and GenCon to connect with new players. A PC simulation of the game seemed like the best option. It helps to keep gaming alive and the dice rolling for us, as well as all the tabletop players who love our games."

Why the Viking theme? "Vikings are fun!" says writer Arinn Dembo. "And they were a perfect fit for the mechanics of the game: spears, shields, hoards of treasure, but also duty and debts to pay. On a more serious note, Viking are part of our heritage. Our whole team is connected to the Viking Diaspora in various ways--our great-grandparents came to the New World from places like Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Scotland, Ireland, and northern Germany. We either have Viking blood or our ancestors spilled Viking blood--sometimes both!"

Hoards of Glory will be available on Steam from November 6, 2020. The price will be $4.99 USD, with a 30% discount for release week.

As the first alien character class to come out for The Pit: Infinity, you can take control of a massive, changed Tarka male - Tor Makari. As a clanless mercenary, born on the Tarka Freehold of Kor Daia, Tor was summoned to Arbuda by the promise of a huge reward for rescuing a kidnapped Human from a high-security alien facility. As a changed male, Tor is big, bad, and do not let his lumbering manner fool you - he is no dummy.

He is a force to be reckoned with, nigh unstoppable.

Full disclosure! The Peeping Tommygun is not a real thing, but now that we've written it down, we kinda like it and may have to do something about that.

While responding to player feedback on some bugs and play issues, we've taken the opportunity to update with some new gear as well as some fixes and tweaks! chief among them are the Quantum Scan Helmet and Tac Visor - both of which give you the ability to spy the enemy ahead of you, even through solid walls! Start digging through the levels to find them and give them a try as you run for the final level, which we've worked to make run much, much smoother!

Crayons down, dummy! Your favorite Gunnery Sergeant - Gunny to his friends. And enemies. - is worried you're having trouble surviving The Pit and is standing by for you. You will have to unlock Gunny in order to play him, but if you're a serial dead body or remember Gunny from the original The Pit, you'll know how to add him to your roster. Gunny is not like The Medic, he has be be unlocked to use - your friends cannot use him in MP just because you have him.

Sooner or later, you're gonna screw up one time too many, and then good old Gunny is going to step up to the fight. In the meantime, may the RNG roll in your favor and the moonbears hate how you taste!
