The first De Blob was one of my favorite Wii games, and as made evident by the fact that I mastered that one and have barely sunk 10 hours into this one, my opinions here are mixed.

Final verdict first: this game is good, you'll enjoy it if you like the first game, but you probably won't feel compelled to see it to the end.

What this game does wrong, if anything, is simply being too much too soon. The first game had just the right amount of content, explores every idea it can, and nearly misses the mark of overstaying its welcome. The second game does very little to feel new, and as a result, pushes the series over that mark.

De Blob obviously isn't a game you're playing for the plot or world building or even the design. You enjoy jumping around and painting all the surfaces, it's a pure hit of dopamine and the unneccessarity of the sequel is made most evident by replaying the first game. You can have these games memorized, play them annually, and still get the same kick out of them all those playthroughs later. So why make a second game? Was I really craving more levels? Was the first game just not enough for me?

Okay, here's why this game isn't bad: the levels are shorter, the design is a bit more tight, and there are SOME new mechanics to differentiate it. Still, I don't think that makes this better or worse, it simply replaces some of my De Blob 1 replays at various points in my life. It's fine, nothing more.
