cringey at times but still gets the job done

A journey into the past

Life of Strange: Before the Storm (recommended by a dear friend. Thank you :D) takes you back in time, a few years before the story of the original game Life is Strange. This time you slip into the shoes of Chloe Price, the rebellious friend of Max Caulfield and at the side of Rachel Amber you make your way through Arcadia Bay.
Should you own the fitting DLC you can even play as a young Max, but I shall not tell too much....
Overall, I enjoyed the game, despite it's short story, that I have finished at about 10 hours including all DLC content. Compared to LiS, I enjoyed the graphics and the many possibilities of interacting with the world.
What I didn't like beside the short playtime were Chloe's animations and the soundtrack for the most part. But that's probably, because I enjoyed the peacefulness of the first game too much and I m less of an indie rock fan.

To everyone who is about to start their journey into Life is Strange: Before the Storm I wish you fun on a journey full of emotions from laughter over tears to anxiety.

I haven't completed the game yet but I'm near the end of chapter 2... I think... and I can confirm I think I like this game. At first I thought "Meh! This game is nothing in comparison to the original!" Some of the dialogue in the beginning was a bit cringe or strange and it felt different to the first game. Which you know, was kind of a relief because I convince myself I just play the other games in this series simply to "get them over and done with" but at the same time, whatever excuse I give myself for playing this, it's because I want to feel again. It's like a drug. It will give you the best high of your life, but the side effects are deadly.

It took me a while to start enjoying the game (I say as if I'm even halfway through. It feels like I've played for a long time but I'm only in the second chapter) but the game decided to be all sneaky and exploit my weaknesses when my guard was down. I don't know how much more I can parry.

Alright well nothing too crazy has happened yet, part of it is just the environment and atmosphere. Stop it with the rain and snow. That's uncalled for, shame on you. The junkyard scene, the play scene and the scene after the play - wow.

It's not buggy like the first game was for me, it's just the dialogue is strange at the beginning. Square Enix does some kind of mind control to distract you from such things anyway. Glitchy audio for a second? Nope, that never happened. The first game had a glitch with floating objects. Ordinarily that would be something I could say against a game, but it's hardly an infraction when the overall experience is amazing.

Rachel is quite a character.


I used to care how my reviews made me come across, but I have long since stopped caring and just say what I want. I just want to be myself even if I don't know exactly what that means. If that means making reviews like this, so be it. Carpe Diem. I will be judged no matter how I act, so I at least deserved to be judged for who I actually am. I deserve that much.

So yeah, Life is Strange does make me think about myself and whatever that makes people think, I'm telling the truth and expressing myself. And I know that I get real passionate and eccentric in my reviews but it's some of the only self expression I get in my life.

Well anyway, as much as I'd like to ramble and go on countless tangents, I think I've said enough for now. Whoever reads this before I refine it after completing the game. Hi there.
