You can configure the controller inside the launcher that opens once the game is executed. In it you can map all the buttons in Keyboard, Keyboard+Mouse, Xbox controller, Playstation controller or Generic pc Controller

If you still find troubles you can use the explicative images and the "readme" file inside the game's installation folder (default C/programfiles/steam/steamapps/common/cursed west)
