From what I can tell it looks like what has been said is "Online Multiplayer was more important for Early Access Release" but not anything on if local is a definite or not. I don't have this yet but I just added it to my wishlist. It's an insta-buy for me when/if local is added. It looks like the perfect game for couch-vs multiplayer game nights....
