Ultimate General: Civil War, has a good foundation and should be a good game. What hampers it is that it has the on-rails atmosphere of a game like Company of Heroes 2, but it also makes you manage and maintain your units like in Red Dragon or Total War. If you want to play a game that's faithful to the Civil War to a fault, you'll love this game. If you want to exercise your brainpower and come up with better strategies to win the battle, you'll be banging your head against the wall. You think that maybe bypassing the Union troops at the Hornet's Nest and attacking Pittsburg Landing directly is a better idea? No, you're going to lose hundreds of men taking this useless piece of woods or you'll fail the entire battle because that's what the real generals did. You are given all of the resposibility for managing your troops and supplies, but very little authority in actually doing things with them. Another huge problem is AI scaling, which leads further into the problem of being locked in on the actions you can take. Think you can play tactically as the Union and drain the rebs of troops? No, screw you, even if you completely decimate their army in one battle, they'll coalesce 200,000 men out of thin air next week. In short, I love the idea, but the execution is hampered by the never-ending hand-holding the game refuses to let you deviate from.

Ai gets overpowered fast no matter which side it is. Game sucks.

Lots of fun! Rebels or Union, this game provides satisfying time managing logistics, command, units and making tactical decisions. Each path, blue or grey, provides for a series of consecutive battlefield terrain challenges on the way to victory! Great game!
