Beautiful walking adventure 10/10 in my book

To start with the positive - the graphics in this game were beautiful. It was immersive and so intriguing and I wish i was able to actually explore every nook and cranny of this house. But this game is strange. It's more of a story than anything, with confusing "games" interwoven between the chapters. The stories themselves are incredibly sad and depressing, and leave many things open to interpretation. If you're looking for an interactive game where you do many different things, this isn't it. But if you want to be told a story about an incredibly unlucky family, presented to you in a pretty package, you might enjoy this. Personally, I do not feel it was worth the time spent or the cost.

What Remains of Edith Finch is one of the greatest stories I've had the pleasure of experiencing in a video game. There are a lot of great story-focused games, but not all of them took advantage of being a game in quite the same ways.

The environment of the Finch house serves as a jungle gym of mystery that fans the flames of the player's curiosity. The music zones in and out at just the rights times. The writing, while somewhat predictable, is sharp and impactful - and I love how the text was utilized in so many different ways.Like when you shake a dandelion to spread its "seeds" in the form of words, or fly into them with Gus' kite.

I've read some negative reviews saying this game had "limited interactivity." While I don't outright disagree with that, I think it's still an unfair statement. There are sequences in this game that hinge entirely on the fact its a game.Lewis' story simply could NEVER work the way it does if it were adapted into any other art form.

One thing I will say is that having completed it in under two hours (before I go back for the achievements), I'm not sure how highly I can recommend it at its standard $20 price tag. However, at the as-of-writing sale of $4.99 I feel like I practically robbed the developers. But if you're reading this and are already planning on buying it, I highly highly recommend you go in absolutely blind.
