It's been a few weeks, and we've been hard at work on fixing more issues that were found, but also on new stuff. Let's take a look!

You can now make new configurations of your proficiencies without having to constantly unequip and re-equip everything. A new button has been added to the proficiencies menu that lets you switch between 8 profiles per character.
The first two profiles are free, but the rest requires increasing amounts of gold bars to unlock (training alone can't solve everything). You only have to buy a profile once, after which it will be unlocked for every character. They can even be renamed, imagine that.

Officers were pretty rare and hard to find, so their spawn rates have been slightly increased, and those backpacks of theirs will now emit a constant radio sound effect making them easier to track down.
To avoid confusion about scripted spawn Officers who don't actually strengthen enemies or count towards challenges, those version will not spawn with a backpack anymore.

We heard a lot of complaints about the weapon challenges, and while we agree that they are uninteresting and often grindy, and we do want to eventually rework the entire system, we aren't ready to tackle that yet.
However we have tried to at least remedy the two most polarizing ones:

• The challenge requiring you to kill Officers with headshots have been split up to two different ones
  
  • For most weapons killing Snipers or Spotters will now also contribute towards the target.
    
  • For shotguns this challenge is replaced completely by a new one that requires killing enemies within 5 meters.
• The challenge requiring killing enemies with the last bullet in the magazine was changed to simply require kills while aiming down sights.

Note: the kill requirements for these challenges have been slightly increased to account for these changes.

• Game can freeze when clicking around the weapons menu too quickly.

Thank you so much for the incredible reception for the update, it has managed to completely exceed our every expectation. We hope you've been enjoying your time with RAID as we continued to work on ironing out the reported issues.

The amount of feedback we received has been immense, and we've been trying to address as much of if as we possibly could. There are still a number of issues that require our attention, and we will try to address them in the coming weeks, as well as throwing in a few requested features.

• New characters sometimes cannot be created properly, and can cause savefile duplication.

• Joining games can sometimes cause crashes due to enemy logic not syncing properly.

Some of you have had some very unfortunate issues with your savefiles duplicating after trying to play the new update for the first time. After panicking for a bit, it looks like we managed pinpoint the cause, and pushing a quick update to prevent anyone else being affected by this issue.

We're really sorry that this had to be your first introduction to the update, we can't unfortunately fix your saves, but we will look into finding some way to compensate you!

After over a year of work, the Resurgence Update is finally here and with it brings an extensive number of changes.
Most parts of the game has been changed in one way or another, and we cannot wait for all of you to jump in and try out this new version of RAID.

Lets get started then, shall we?

The old skill system has been replaced in order to freshen up the gameplay experience and provide more unique experiences between each class. We wanted skills to be more interesting where unique builds are actually possible, while also hopefully avoiding mandatory picks.
You can equip up to 10 different proficiencies: A Warcry, a Boost, and 8 talents.

Besides the already existing warcries, we have also added 3 new ones:

• Silver Bullet (Recon)
  
  • Load up on high velocity rounds, and pierce through any cover. Also highlights enemies through walls.
• Sentry (Assault)
  
  • Gain perfect accuracy at the cost of movement speed, perfect for mowing down hoards of enemies.
• Pain Train (Insurgent)
  
  • Initiate an uncontrollable charge, knocking down and damaging every enemy infront of you.
  Note: Due to future reworks regarding how some warcries work, Demolitions hasn't received a new one for now.

We finally did it, a new way to carry things!

The raiders have hit the benches a little and now are able to carry more then just 1 type of loot at a time.
All classes can carry different amount of items, and all loot items have different carry weights that impact how much can be carried.
There have also been new skills added that can increase your carry limit even further, allowing you do potentially carry 9 gold bars at once, keep in mind some items like bodies cannot be stacked.
The significance of loot has increased overall, with secured loot granting gold bars even outside of Outlaw Raids, so get robbing those trains and treasuries.

Closing the floodgates

Enemies have been tweaked to be less bullet spongy, their spawn rates were also lowered and their responsiveness has been improved. They should now be considered a threat on higher difficulties even in small groups.

Note: to compensate for enemy health reductions, all weapons have had their damage, accuracy and other stats tweaked.
PS: No, your weapon upgrades won't get reset again.

Officers are now equipped with a radio backpack, making them more recognizable at longer ranges and in large crowds.
You may also notice a new elite officer variation added for the Very Hard difficulty.

Perfect is the enemy of good

We have made big effort to improve the visual fidelity of the game, with all maps receiving complete lighting reworks and even some fresh new textures. There are still maps however that can look pretty potato, so there will definitely be more improvements made on that front in the future.

Additionally many of the frequently reported stuttering issues and engines crashes have been fixed, and the game should now perform much better then before.

A lot of unused voice lines have been properly implemented, some UI elements were refreshed, and bunch of new quality of life options were added.
If you're not a fan of the funny mustache man, you may be pleased to know that you can now turn off the post mission videos if you so choose!

With this update, we are also releasing our first official modding tool!
The Bundle Browser tool will allow everyone to open and extract assets from the game easily. Its still in early stages and only has limited functionality, but overtime we're hoping to to add more features to it such as automatic ScriptData conversion, drag and drop extraction support, quick searching etc.

Note: For technical reasons Bundle Browser is not compatible with other version's of the Diesel Engine besides the current RAID update.

You should find the Raid: World War II Modding Tools automatically added to your library already.
In the future we're going to try to release more tools for the community as well. These tools will all built in parallel to internal tooling we are making for ourselves, so whatever we get we'll make sure you get a version as well.

This past year has been a big challenge for us, what started as a skills rework ballooned into a huge
project to fix as much stuff as we could. It has taken us countless nights and overtime to make this possible. We have put everything we had into this update, and even tho we haven't been able to do everything we wanted to, we're still proud of what we were able to achieve and hope you're going to enjoy it regardless of some issues still being present.

If you do find issues or you have suggestions, be sure to voice them on the forums or on our Discord. There are always unexpected problems that can arise, and while we can't promise to quickly remedy every issue, but we will try our best!

A huge thanks to all the community feedback from beta testers and outside members alike who helped us shape this update.

We promise that we will try our best to deliver future updates at a quicker pace, we know having to wait such long times for updates sucks. For a while, we are going to stick with the current update and try to iron out all the issues that will inevitable arise, before starting on something new.
One thing for sure, is we're really going to need some time to relax before we start thinking about what's next, but we are already full of ideas.

Mod users; Please check for broken mods!
If your game is not launching and you may have outdated or incompatible mods installed please be sure to completely uninstall mods if you are having immediate issues!
In your RAID World War II directory remove IPHLPAPI.dll or WSOCK32.dll files by hand, as verifying game cache will not remove these files.

With the release of the update drawing near, we wanted to go into some detail about how the new skill system actually works, why we settled on this system, and how it evolved from the initial idea.
This will be a very wordy post, so buckle up!

Its quite simple, you have 10 slots you can equip proficiencies into:
The first slot is reserved for a Warcry.
Most of you should be familiar with these, they are powerful active abilities you gain by killing enemies and help you level the playing field for a short while.
Besides the already existing ones, we have added a few new ones to play around with.

The second slot is your Boost.
These are passive stat increases that also come with a team boosting effect during your warcry.
In the old system, Warcries had these effects built in, but now you can chose which one you'd like regardless of your class.

The remaining 8 slots are for Talents, the lifeblood of battle.
The main building blocks of your build, they can be anything from letting you move faster, reloading while sprinting, or even exploding your grenades when you hit someone with them.

Every proficiency has an unlock level requirement, after which they cost varying amounts of gold to unlock. You only have to buy them once however, after which they will be unlocked for all your other characters as well. Once unlocked, they level up by earning XP up to Tier 4.

The original proficiency system the game had left a lot to be desired. It was made in a big rush and wasn't even close to the original intent. It lacked any sort of variety between classes, and wanting to change even just one skill in your built meant paying a hefty gold sum, then picking each skill one by one again.

The point is, that it was one of the biggest contributing factor to players loosing interest in the game very quickly, and it was clear to us that as long as this faulty system is in place, no amount of new content would be sufficient enough to bring players back long term.

Now of course the quicker and easier choice would have been to simply keep the system and try to patch it up: change some numbers, replace skills with different ones, maybe add a 4th row... But continuously adding band-aids upon band-aids onto a system nobody liked to begin with felt like a doomed effort.
No, the system had to go and be remade completely if we wanted future updates to have any lasting impact.

We knew it wouldn't be a simple change, and oh boy was it a challenge...

The first order of businesses was identifying the underlying issues with the previous system:

• Only simple stat boosts to pick from, a big lack of any unique or interesting skills.
  
• Classes have nothing to make them stand out besides their Warcry.
  
• Experimentation is actively punished by expensive respec costs.
  
• Damage skills are basically mandatory, forcing you to respec when trying out different weapons.
  
• Overall too many skills on the list to account for, lot of irrelevant picks.
  
• Impossible to add only a few new skills thanks to how the UI is set up.
  
• Most skill icons are hard to recognize seemingly arbitrary shapes.

So, we needed a system that contains a variety of unique and interesting skills, making classes feel distinct, promoting experimentation and different play-styles, and also expandable.
It was also important to not instantly overdo the number of possible skill configurations. Making skill selection totally free form sounds noble on paper, but If you have an all you can eat buffet of 100 individual skills, obviously the players will to flock to all the best ones, while leaving the majority of them completely unused.

We also wanted to avoid skills that simply make weapons deal more damage. Being able to deal damage shouldn't be locked to a skill and everyone will always equip the ones used for their weapons, so why even have them? Eventually we re-balanced the weapons anyways and omitted these kind of skills.
*Note: We are aware that the weapon upgrade system itself is far from desirable, this will also receive an overhaul in the future.

After some back and forth, we came up with essentially a Pick 10 system where every proficiency can be freely equipped and unequipped at any time, allowing players to mix and match.

To mitigate the issue of having too many skills to choose from, we decided to give all proficiencies 4 tiers, where each tier can have its own effect, vastly increasing their value.
All proficiencies start at tier 1 and they level up automatically by gaining xp while equipped, adding just a little bit more complexity.

This came with a few other benefits: Not all talents need to be equally created, some could have 4 distinct effects, some can have only a single effect that gets stronger when leveled up!

*Note: We know that this system isn't exactly without flaws either, if a talent has some tiers you like but some you don't, there's no way to say no to them. However this is an acceptable enough sacrifice, since it adds more weight to the decision making. (sorry if they have something that makes you sick though)

Originally, we had the idea of requiring Tier 4 to unlock by completing special challenges, but this was scrapped during development because they were too disrupting to the experience.
For lower tiers completing smaller, repeatable version of these challenges would also give a small xp boost, but this was also removed when it proved unnecessary.

Once we had the base concepts done, it was time to go to work. We all started pitching ideas for possible skills. We knew we wanted to make new warcries too, so we asked the community what they wanted to see and you all delivered. While we didnt end up picking any 1 individual idea as is, a lot of the suggestions ended up being combined and mutated into a state we were satisfied with.

We ended up writing way more ideas that it was feasible to make for one update, but this means we already have a backlog of ideas we can use in the future ;)

While the skill ideas were in the oven, the menu itself took shape surprisingly quickly, all the base foundations were layed down in a few days, and a series of sidetracking and an unscheduled house moving later we could start building the skills.

Creating the actual talents themselves was no small feat, but one of the big upsides of Diesel is the use of the LUA scripting language, which allowed us to rapidly prototype a lot of ideas and iterate over them without any compile times or the need to develop overly complex systems.

A lot has changed about them during development of course, lot of talents got changed, or even split into multiple different talents. Thanks to the tier system, we were able to easily switch out individual abilities and put them somewhere else. This philosophy will extend to the future as well, so it will be likely a lot of skill will go under further changes depending on community feedback.

Some interesting ideas that didn't make the cut:

• A deployable parachute that saves you from fall damage
  
• Splitting up your health into multiple chunks which regenerate, but block healing
  
• Sticky Grenades
  
• Prolonged bleedout timer via a skillcheck minigame
  
• Getting overhealed by medkits
  
• Passive grenade regeneration, but reduced grenade capacity
  
• Weapons fire faster the longer the trigger is held

When balancing the numbers, we opted to just go what felt good, playing around with them, tweaking the numbers until we thought they were in a good state. This didn't always mean we were right at first of course but iteration is the name of the game, and later on we also got invaluable feedback from the private beta testers.

*This was perhaps the most important takeaway in all of this. Doesn't matter how good you feel your ideas are, it'll be up to the actual players to decide if they work or not!

Lucky for us, the feedback we received was largely encouraging, and with the tester's endless amounts of help the pieces slowly started to fall in place. We can't thank enough all the advice and critiques they've given us, it made the update considerably better then it would have been otherwise.

Not all of it ended up the way we originally imagined it, and things we were hoping to be able to include had to be shelved for later, but there is a point where you have to accept it the way it is and send it.

And finally, after months of sleepless nights, it is time to see what fruit will this herculean undertaking bare.

We want to thank all of you who been showing interest in RAID. Seeing so many people show up over the past few weeks and be excited about the update was unexpected for us. We know there are a lot of gripes to be had with this game, and can't guarantee that this update will solve all of them, but we really hope you'll enjoy what we put together, and the long wait has been worth it.

Of course we don't consider this new proficiency system, or the game, done yet. There are still many places in need of improvement and the update itself will surely introduce new issues.
There are a lot of things we want to add, things we want to change (and will need to change), but hopefully with the help of all of you we can help this weird little game have another chance and achieve its Resurgence!

Thanks for everyone who participated in the contest, we have gotten a lot of great suggestions.
It wasn't simple to pick out the winners, and we went back and forth on them for a while, but eventually we managed to pick the ones we found most fitting.

This has been a year of hard work from our small team and finally we are prepared to share the date of the update: August 1st (this year).

• Q. Has the XP grind been tuned?
  
• A. Yes, bonus objectives grant more XP and overall progression should be faster.
  
  
• Q. Will there be a Jukebox to choose music?
  
• A. Not in this update, we are looking into adding a jukebox for music.
  
  
• Q. How will you deal with missing voicelines?
  
• A. We'll be using a backlog of unused voicelines as much as we can, We will not be using Ai to generate new lines.
  
  
• Q. What if I want to play 2018 version of Raid?
  
• A. There is a beta build you can opt into to play an older build of Raid.
  
  
• Q. Will there be a console update?
  
• A. No, we're conscious of players who want console updates and if we hear about noise from them we may push for a console update to bring it up to today standards at least.
  
  
• Q. Is Steam Deck supported?
  
• A. Yes, should be supported. We will need to keep an eye on any technical issues that may arise.
  
  
• Q. Why are you still using Diesel engine?
  
• A. We like it, after working on Raid for as long as we have there have been enormous improvements from us that will make working on new content easier and easier.
  
  
• Q. What kind of DLC may come to Raid?
  
• A. We don't have any solid plans for DLC at this point, We would like to work on new levels at least. Weapon/Cosmetic/Skill DLCs aren't something we're looking at.
  
  
• Q. Achievements that need 4 players are annoying, will they change?
  
• A. Yes, we're trying to change up the achievements to allow 2 players to complete them.
  
  
• Q. Will my weapon progression reset again?
  
• A. No- I hope not, We haven't made any changes that will require a reset at this time and don't want to do that again.
  
  
• Q. New weapon upgrades, full-auto for pistols?
  
• A. We would love to work in some of those fun full-auto kits for the M1911 and C96.
  
  
• Q. Will there be a stream on the day of the update?
  
• A. No, we're going to be very busy fixing bugs so we will not be streaming, we would love to though!

We hope players will be happy with this price and find it easier to convince their friends and family to play alongside them.

If you're feeling extra supportive as a base game owner we still have the Special Edition Upgrade or the Soundtrack you can purchase. The Special Edition Upgrade still contains the Soundtrack DLC.
Additionally the Soundtrack DLC has been updated to be a proper soundtrack item and can be purchased without ownership of the game. Enjoy the music!
