Life of an NPC

Crafting/construction overhaul

Implemented a crafting/construction system where you first specify the blueprint, then need to bring enough items to the blueprint to finish it. For now, only 2 out of 3 items are required to finish a craft/construction.

To start crafting a new item, click on the static object you wish to use as the crafting station, click the craft button, and specify the desired item name. The AI will run a plausibility check for the crafting station, a research check, and a tech levels check.

To start crafting a new static object, click the new blue static object icon. The AI will run a research check and tech levels check.

NPCs may also occasionally start new crafts/constructions as well as bring items to existing blueprints.

Research

Each world now comes pregenerated with a research tree. The research items are used as checks for whether you’re allowed to create a new item or static objects. You can activate up to 3 research items at once. Research progresses whenever an NPC does an action which the AI deems was related to the research.

Tech Levels

Each world now comes pregenerated with about 10 tech levels. Your tech level is determined by your existing static objects. You can gradually tech up by building more and more advanced objects.

Sandbox Mode

Sandbox mode can be toggled on or off at will. When toggled on, it allows free-form creation of items (via the plus button in an NPC inventory), static objects, and NPCs without plausibility checks.

Misc

Added a console for cheat codes related to research
Fixed bug where static object displayed survival bars

Gameplay

Added create new NPC view, subject to the maximum NPCs limit (currently 7)
Added logic to spawn initial NPCs with initial items
Added the following functionality for clicked NPC: Delete long-term memory, delete short-term memory, delete agenda item, add/remove/edit item, regenerate item image, remove status effect, add short-term memory, add new prioritized task, rewrite entire agenda with instructions
Added ability for player to use in-place action when overriding an NPC’s current action
Added local image gen support for ComfyUI and a1111 API

Fixed emojis sometimes not showing correctly
Changed the name of “OpenAI API” to “Local/Custom (OpenAI API)” because some people didn’t know what it was
Added camera panning with the mouse when holding right click
Added mouse zooming logic which anchors the zoom to the point of the cursor
Added tips as clickable question marks in the log, clicked NPC view, and create NPC / Static Object views
Fixed clicked NPC view not refreshing when survival bar value changed
Added ability for player to edit location name

Misc

Added tolerance for parsing corpses in case AI specifies a dead NPC without using the word corpse
Added tolerance for parsing quoted names in case AI specifies an NPC by their nickname
Fixed OpenAI API error when auto-generating world background

Calamity button/generate static object button wont work.

So, im not sure if "calamity" is the proper word. But the 'explosion' button is greyed (it wasnt when i first tried the game) and the static object generation button (the one that generates the text for description) is permenantly greyed as well as the checkmark being greyed....

NPCs often don't feed themselves and die

They often won't feed themselves, or will set a goal and then just re-prioritise and not do it.. then they die. And often if I manually try to get them to, the interaction will happen but then it won't fill their hunger.

feature request: Multi-model.

At config time, you select a default connection and model, however you can override the LLM host and model selection for each so that you can run models against each other. I have about 60 gb of available VRAM on my gaming rig and another 115 on my workstation, so I can host several models concurrently and see what happens when they play off each other....

I hate it when bots cluster in one room.

I'm so tired of the same old scene—an entire group of 5+ NPCs cramming into a single space, asking each other the same thing over and over, as if they had nothing better to do. And to make it worse, they start reprogramming each other, implanting their own ideas—usually the most alarmist ones. I wish there were a way to grab them by the collar and throw them into another building, wiping all the quests those chatty characters have force-fed them.

I really like this game and i feel like it has alot of potential, However currently there are some bugs
and i guess 'quirks' to the game.

Some things i noticed while playing:
Unable to really place down things NPCS have in their inventories.
Pressing "J" while typing opens the research menu.
Its decently difficult to keep a NPC doing a certain task like research. (I may just be an idiot)
Sometimes NPCS look for items they already have?

I also thought of some cool stuff that might be nice in the game:
Having the AI generate tilemaps to use inside the rooms making them more unique (If the AI can even make decent tilemaps), Or maybe have the AI select between presets of tilemaps for the room like wood or scifi or something.
Maybe a certain type of object like wall that you can drag out to build custom rooms.
A system where if you try to create an object and fail because of not enough research or tech level it would be saved in some screen so the AI wont need to regenerate it and you dont need to reinput everything.
More NPC customization like hair and hats.
More NPC interactions, Im not sure how the backend of everything works and how the AI determines what happens but like it would be cool if a teleporter was able to teleport NPCs to other locations or explosives make NPCs combust.
Maybe some rivers or trees around to add a bit more to the world.

Also something i suggest that might help you in this is quill18creates rimworld/unity-base building game tutorials, They include alot of stuff like wall tilemap junk if you ever end up needing to do something like that.

Overall i feel like this game has alot of potential and with some updates it can become a really good game, But in the meantime im going to torture a bunch of NPCs in a science research facility.
