Best characters for doing harder difficulties?

Any suggestions if anyones beating the harder difficulties yet? I am on world 6 china town easy and, well, wondering if there is any good characters that would get me through harder difficulties. Since I may play the game again

Where is Cop?

I beat this game in easy mode and it told me to press START to get the reward. Then I closed the game and opened it again and couldn't find the police. I went to the police who told me to restore HP and SP for $15 but I couldn't get him into the group.

Disappointing game guide

I bought the guide for one reason, to help pick a party for hard mode (first playthrough) and the guide spoils everything (of course) except for a description of the skills that characters get. Sure, it says what skills the characters get and when, but that doesn't help me put together a team when I don't know what those skills do......

You are always playing with Dan, who is a a good all-around character. Then comes the moment to adjoin him 3 party members. Please note more characters become available as you complete modes. Here is a link to a picture with the characters and their name...
