Big thanks from the Studio 568 team!

We're thrilled that so many of you played Calyx over the RTS Fest period, left reviews and gave us feedback in the Discussion Forum.

It's exciting that so many of you see potential in the Demo, and it's great to receive so much well considered feedback.

We're now working through that feedback, pulling out the common themes, and using them as part of our decision making for the next phase of the project.

Feedback: Minerals and a couple of other things

I just beat the example level for a mid game level, and I'd like to say I quite enjoyed it! The flow of the enemy felt pretty nice, and it was easy to focus on one area to expand too at a time (mostly). I do have a couple of suggestions that i'd like to toss out there 1. "Infinite" minerals. Not in the sense of getting rid of mining, but maybe a tech that grants access to "Deep" veins or smthn, allowing for "Infinite" mining at a ***Very*** slow rate. The point being so if you are really struggling and loo...

Calyx Demo v0.0.2.3 | Skirmish

Added Skirmish as an option on the main menu.

This allows you to configure options before playing the demo map:

Number of Calyx Roots
Number of Ore locations
Difficulty, from Very Easy to Impossible

Note, this is not us responding to any of the super helpful player feedback. Skirmish is a small feature that didn't quite make the cut when we launched the demo on Friday, so we're including it today.

Frame rate cap & motion blur options

Added settings for:

Frame rate cap
Motion blur

These are in the options dialogue - if you've seen the game maxing out your GPU, you can now impose a framerate cap. We also made some minor UI and audio tweaks.

Demo feedback

Honestly i tried to play. But you run out of resources so fast that if you are not blitzing the first few minutes you are screwed, resources run out. then all you got is power. Now you need more credits to build stuff, but yeah not happening because no resources. The others are unreachable because calyx. Either this game is made with try harding in mind or the balance is off....

It destroys my PC

I am enjoying the game, I'm a sucker for this exact kind of RTS but it has one big problem: it overheats my laptop in the kind of way I only see with a few extremely graphically intensive games - even after under-volting my CPU, I've still had my laptop shut down from overheating. I suspect the root/plant simulation is some kind of awesome compute shader that is overworking my GPU. That is cool if so, but it'll be very confusing for some users with lower end PCs why a game that doesn't look like Alan Wake...

Having to micro artillery units targeting is annoying

The Heavy tanks and Artillery units specialize in cutting off the big trunks, so why are they pounding the tiniest patch of dirt first?

Good Demo, Limited strategies (Currently) Feedback.

The only reasonable way to beat the game is with artillery. I did try some other strategies like rushing, using only starter tanks, and relying on walls and turrets… Unfortunately, none of these worked, or they would have taken way too long compared to artillery. Do I think artillery is overpowered or needs a nerf? Hell no. But I do hope the game launches with more viable strategies. Linking power to the main base feels more limiting than fun. Breaking through with tanks and setting up outposts would b...
