Hey Guys,

New Beta Build is now live! Added some new mechanics and more vaults, as well as an overhaul on the ledge detection which is now far more optimised. This should especially eliminate those frame drops in certain areas of the level. Thank you all for reporting the crashes you're having, most seem to be GPU and DX12 crashes so we're working on solutions for them asap.

In regards to our scheduled April updates, we've been taking a step back from adding too many new modes, features etc to focus on the game vision, features and player experience and are working on a couple things to convey that vision to you guys, including a comprehensive roadmap for the game, so you guys can see where our focus is and help guide us there too. It did mean that features like the character customisation didn't come out in time, as we decided to prioritise optimisations and core gameplay mechanics and stability over cosmetic stuff. Apologies for any disappointment there but we're grinding away to get those bits ready with the new menu for you guys!

We're also doing quite a big refactor of the input system and rewriting a lot of the code. As cumbersome as this is, it will definitely be worth it in the long run and the new system is far more manageable with less edge cases, which will allow us to easily implement key rebinding as well.

In the meantime, Hopefully this update has enough new mechanics and animations to keep you guys finding new ways to explore the world.

The beta branch won't work in multiplayer with those on the default branch (wont see any of the lobbies and vice versa), so make sure to switch to the correct branch to play with friends on one or the other!

BETA PATCH NOTES

[NEW] Added wall sliding! Hold Grab to when approaching a flat wall whilst falling to wallslide.

[NEW] Added wall 180s! While wall sliding, point your move input behind the character in the direction you want to launch in and use jump to charge and jump away from the wall. Exciting to see how you guys make use of this mechanic.

[NEW] Added Tic Tac Variants! Holding Just Left Trigger/Right mouse Button) and Jumping will do a one foot tic tac, and holding both triggers/ both mouse buttons will do a sort of wall 180 tic tac variant. You can now actually 180 your way up chimneys, Tim Champion style.

[NEW] Added Kong Front Vault. Hold Vault (Left Trigger) and Flick modifier (Right Bumper) and flick Up on the Right Thumb Stick to Perform a Kong Front. You can do this over, off, onto (KF's onto will do a physics launched KF until we capture the correct animation for this!). Think this is my favourite vault now. There's some issues doing this with K+M that we're aware of so will let you guys know when that's fixed!

[NEW] Added Kong Gainer. Hold Vault (Left Trigger) and Flick modifier (Right Bumper) and flick Down on the Right Thumb Stick to Perform a Kong Gainer. This currently only works when vaulting over something as we don't have the coverage for the other cases yet, but will add them after our next mocap session! Also some issues with this on K+M.

[NEW] Slow motion is back! Press Right Thumb stick / Ctrl Key to trigger slow motion. We will have a slider for the slow motion speed in a coming update. Slow motion is also disabled in multiplayer.

[CHANGE] Tic Tacs now no longer require a double tap but are instead a hold and release like the step jump. Let us know how this feels. This changed so there was less difficulty timing the power and more consistency across powered jump types. It also makes for chaining wall 180s and gauging power a lot more consistent.

[CHANGE] Precision Mode toggle is now on a long press/hold on the Left thumb stick / Shift Key. Sprint remains a quick press. Keen to get you guys feedback on this change! It allows for Slow motion on the right thumb stick and eventually camera change on long press right thumb stick, but definitely want to hear everyone's thoughts on this!

[OPTIMSATION] Ledge detection refactor. Significantly optimised which has also reduced frame spikes in dense areas of the map.

[OPTIMISATION] Physics and Collision optimisation. Some mesh and physics collision optimisations to give better more stable performance throughout the level.

[OPTIMISATION] Host of other key optimisations in terms of level, character and game thread logic.

[IMPROVEMENT] Improved distance matching on jumps. you can now jump onto and over objects much closer (and even when colliding).

[IMPROVEMENT] Reduced over wall width threshold. Should give more stable context detection for thicker walls.

[LEVEL] Small changes and tweaks to the level, adjusting gaps and unusable areas.

[FIX] Pausing in multiplayer no longer pauses for everyone in lobby

[FIX] Some pose matching and attack crash fixes

[FIX] Collision issues when grabbing

[FIX] Clamped sliding speed and slide jump velocity to avoid those crazy power jumps

[IMPROVEMENT] Improved optimal ledge detection. Character will now pick the ledge closest to neck height, similar to that of dynos. this means small lips protruding from walls won't be selected over more pronounced ledges that are more climbable and within close range. This of course only affects non physics driven actions like wallpops etc. Some more improvements to the ledge detection coming soon as well.

[IMPROVEMENT] Locomotion improvements and fixes. Correct threshold for walk and run.

[IMPROVEMENT] Improved vault physics. Vaulting over, off and onto things is a lot more fluid and stable, and vaults such as lazy and dash now don't make you bail like crazy.

[IMPROVEMENT] Arm jumps and grabs are a lot more stable and result in less bails. Although still driven by your gravity trajectory, there is now a greater range for those flatter arm jumps and more animations , fallbacks and soft bails are on the way soon too!

[FIX] Bunch of crash cases fixed. We've also identified the cause of a few more, especially in regards to graphics profiles and configurations, which will be fixed in an upcoming update.

[FIX] Sound mix fixed, especially for music (Mad Place won't make your eardrums explode anymore, but it will still make your head bop tho, serious tune that one).

First off, apologies! This update took a lot longer than expected to get out to you guys, primarily because we're still a very small team so its tricky to both work on the necessary changes, additions and improvements, whilst also fixing and debugging stuff but we're getting there!

The focus has been on implementing a lot of your core gameplay feedback, finishing off some key systems like the new menu and the missions refactor, and improving performance, UX and stability. Long way to go still but we'll get there soon enough!

PS. You don’t need to remove mods to update, but please be aware that some mods might cause crashes or unexpected behaviour with this version.

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the lack of communication this past week, it's been a hectic one! Just to keep everyone up to date, we're currently working hard on everyone's feedback and have made some key improvements that we're going to be pushing out in a new build (or two) this week, first to the beta branch before updating the main game branch.

This next update will include:

- Performance and level optimisations

- Much more comprehensive input device support. We've rewritten a bunch of input handling code so it should improve your experience connecting, disconnecting and playing with different controllers (Still use a controller for the best experience whilst we finetune Mouse and Keyboard controls!)

- Improved arm jump/grab range (no longer just banging into the wall when trying to grab stuff if you're not spot on with your trajectory)

- Drastically reduced bailing, especially in tight areas and when close to the ground. Now bumping into small obstacles, or jumping into a wall when on the ground won't make you break all your bones anymore lol. This will eventually also be improved further when we add more soft bails, saves, and wall slides etc.

- Character collision fixes (less phasing through walls and what not)

- Bunch of other bug fixes and improvements

We're also finishing up the new menu and should hopefully get that out to you guys within the week, as well as some more gameplay settings, more granular graphics settings and other bits!

Finally, we're still working on the tutorial rework, as well as a bunch of your suggestions. There are some game design aspects that we are really nailing down on in order to ensure not only the tutorial, but entire gameplay loop are dialled in.

Thank you all for the support this week, It's been great seeing people start to get into the game and pulling off some crazy lines. We're full focus on bug fixing and improvements, as well as some key UI and UX changes, so expect multiple updates this coming week!

Here's what's changed, and what we're still looking into:

[INPUT-LAG] We're still trying to get into the bottom of what's causing the input lag for some users. This is not the expected behaviour, and is different from the action queueing in the game.

[BUG] Frame limiter added but noticing some problems with it, we're looking into that now, should be fixed properly for next update!

[FIX] [CRASH] We've fixed some more crashes from multiplayer and tutorial functionality. If you're experiencing some more crashes drop a message in the discord to let us know when you're getting them so we can fix!

[FIX] Controller type detection. Previously the game was picking up all controllers as an Xbox controller. PlayStation controllers should now be properly detected and show the correct glyphs.

[FIX] Mouse and Keyboard flick detection. M+K controls are still very WIP and subject to change as our focus has really been on controller! Expect more M+K improvements and control tweaks this week!

[FIX] Tuck on mouse and keyboard causing reset.

[FIX] Fixed Tutorial objectives not properly being registered as completed, as well as controller hints showing the correct hint for the active objective.

[FIX] Bunch of other stuff, losing track at this point lol

[IMPROVEMENT] [TUTORIAL] Simplified tutorial. The current tutorial has had some stages removed to be more friendly for new players. We're working on a fully modular and comprehensive tutorial with multiple sections and stages (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced etc) that players can go through at their own pace. This was unfortunately was not ready for EA launch but will be added in the coming weeks.

[IMPROVEMENT] [UX] Quit from the pause menu and leave from the online menu now returns you to the main menu. Quitting from the main menu will exit the game. Now you can quit multiplayer sessions, the tutorial or replay the tutorial without restarting your game.

[IMPROVEMENT] [LOCOMOTION] Improved locomotion, especially starts. Character rotation now turns to desired input direction faster and more reliably, as well as having less jank due to not switching between walk and run smoothly.

[IMPROVEMENT] [LOCOMOTION] Turn in place on quick flicks of the Left thumb-stick work a lot better now. A turn in place can be interrupted by another one now too, which allows for more control and responsive turn in place inputs.

[IMPROVEMENT] [PARKOUR] Improved distance sync/match for jumping onto objects. Should revert less to a wallpop.

[IMPROVEMENT] [PARKOUR] Double Kong is now also triggered when inputting another Catpass before taking off in your current, as well as on a double flick. Should make them more consistent to perform whilst we improve the double flick detection!

[IMPROVEMENT] Precision mode active feedback

[IMPROVEMENTS] Host of other tweaks and improvements to gameplay and tutorial.

First off, we just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has jumped into Early Access and supported us so far! Your feedback has been essential, and we truly appreciate you being part of this journey with us.

We are aware that some of you have run into issues, having identified several key problems affecting playability and are working hard to get them fixed. A patched version is already live, and we’ll keep rolling out updates until everything runs smoothly.

We’re currently working on fixing and addressing the following issues:

[INPUT-LAG] We are having reports of some anomalies in registering inputs, it looks like in some configurations, the controller input is lagged by about 1/3 of a second. Some players are experiencing this issue while some others seem to be fine, we are going to add a separate report for this very crucial issue and try to resolve it with the help of our community, if you are impacted by the input lag bug please join us on Discord[discord.gg] and provide us with as much information as possible.

[CRASH] INVESTIGATING: Multiplayer sessions hard crash on joining. We think we have got most of the crashes but will still monitoring and analysing. Please report any crashes related to joining multiplayer lobbies if they still occur.

Hiya, it’s been a while! But we’re coming to you with a few updates 🗣️ 



The gears are grinding at full Steam ahead toward an early access release, and there's been progress on all levels! 

From major improvements on our fully functional multiplayer mode, to the finalisation of the initial missions, as well as an implemented scoring system.
Amongst this, workflow has also included finishing off the skyscraper level, and making headway on the construction site & council estate levels, with rumours of a highly anticipated bail system underway.

The game is also running on Steam Deck (!) and the engineers are currently working hard on optimising that experience too. 



As part of all this, we have been sharing insights into the various stages of the dev process in the form of a new docu-series over on our shiny new SPP YouTube channel (@StorrorParkourPro). 


There are 2 episodes of a behind the scenes series out to watch, episode 1 features our creative director Drew & level architect Sam exploring the council estate which inspired the design of that level, as well as it's rich social history, whilst episode 2 features lead programmer David delving into the unique SPP movement & animation system. When is early access releasing?
Early access is set for release within the first quarter of 2025.

Will there be in-game water challenges?
Yes! Anything can be a challenge in SPP - team up and challenge your friends to a stick off over water, create your own challenges within the maps, or simply rack up as many points as you can in skill comps.

Will it be good?
Yes.

Training spots?
We can't spoil too much about which spots will be featured in SPP yet, but we can confirm that London's iconic Isle of Dogs is an in-game location. Climbing moving cranes, riding speeding trains, and exploring those familiar streets will all be explorable and trainable from a whole new perspective.
