I spent $525.20 on this game for gear, battle passes, and cosmetics, but it’s been a huge letdown.

PvP: From Decent to Disastrous

PvP started off okay, but recent updates have made it completely unbalanced. Pay-to-win mechanics dominate the game, with top PvP guilds purchasing the best gear. If you’re not spending, you don’t stand a chance.
Worse, all the top guilds are in alliances, turning PvP into an exclusive playground for a select few. This ruins the competitive spirit and alienates players who want a fair experience.

Lack of Content

As of June 2025, there’s no fresh content. The gameplay is repetitive, with a boring loop that lacks innovation. PvE is almost nonexistent, and the few available activities feel like an afterthought.

Rewards and Progression

The rewards system is underwhelming. Drop rates are abysmal, and the effort put into the grind doesn’t feel worth it. It’s a frustrating experience that kills any motivation to keep playing.

Poor Management, Hackers, and Declining Player Base
The game suffers from poor management, with hackers rampant in PvP. Lag switching and exploits are common, ruining the gameplay for honest players. These issues have driven many players away, leaving the game with a noticeably shrinking player base and low activity levels. This only adds to the frustration, as finding matches or engaging in cooperative activities becomes increasingly difficult.
It feels like no action is being taken to
address these issues.

Insane amounts of exploits (some that have been in the game since day 1), 10 dollar cheats that pop up on the first page of a google search that the devs don't even acknowledge, AGS, P2W for new players, game breaking BiS weapons that will not be fixed because they are the rarest weapons in the game which means more money for ncsoft/amazon (cordy crossbow), gear dependent rock paper scissors pvp, bugs that have been in the game since day 1, abysmal servers, 50%+ of the player base unable to play the flagship content in the game due to things like lagging and stuttering (that's putting it lightly), players punished for exploiting pve trials dungeon but players not punished for openly scripting and exploiting weapon abilities in pvp, THEY DO NOT PLAYTEST THEIR GAME WHATSOEVER, there is literally a new bug every single time they update the game, the FOMO in the game is the worst I have ever experienced of any game, extremely stale content that has been the same time gated content since launch and their entire game revolves around this time gated content, CHORES in a video game just to get your daily materials, 90% + of players will never be able to have full BiS gear with the absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drops for the best weapons in the game, T2 they decreased the drop rates of items in the game by an extremely noticeable difference compared to T1, the game is designed in a way with the FOMO and horrible drop rates to just make you give in and just give this multi billion dollar corporation your hard earned money without them having to do ANYTHING to actually earn that money, incompetent devs, incompetent staff, moderators don't even care what you did in game they will chat ban you or ban you outright if you receive enough people to just mass report you, unable to appeal the ban once it's been put in place (good luck trying to talk to an actual person at AGS lol), guild loot systems designed in a way to cause drama between your guild, mostly toxic community, the game itself is not friendly to new players, the design philosophy of this game is just flawed, forced to mindlessly grind pretty much every piece of content in the game but even if you did enjoy grinding there is a time gate on essentially everything in the game that will help you progress quicker (coop dungeons, over world dungeons, nebula island) and even then when you do all of the grinding it isn't even satisfying afterwards, you literally need to pay real money just to change classes in the game (or wait months to obtain necessary materials and item pieces), so many gambling mechanics inside the game, lack of meaningful small scale battles, practically no rewards for even doing pvp, pve content is the same awful grind over and over again, there's even more to mention but I don't really care enough at this point lol, there's so much that is just broken in this game and it is obvious the devs barely care about fixing it. Even the small things that don't take much time to fix. The new raids will be coming today but that will keep people playing for about a week or so until the same thing happens and people just go back to feeling fatigued of this game. It's the same cycle every time any major piece of content drops. The player base is nothing more than a spreadsheet of numbers and dollar signs to these corpos. Your time will not be valued and you will be pressured into spending money to just to be able to compete in the game lol.

The game does have some good things going for it to keep you drawn in but the negatives heavily outweigh any of those positives. Half of my time playing this game I would just be thinking how other mmo's like WOW and OSRS (that have worse combat systems than TnL) just allow the player to actually enjoy their games. I can pop on those games and grind endlessly if I want to, while actually feeling rewarded for grinding afterwards. I don't have to worry about time gated loot drops with disgusting drop rates to keep me playing those games. There is a reason those games will still be being played once this one dies (unless the devs make a massive overhaul to the core philosophy of this game but that won't happen because it's AGS and NCSoft lol).

Overall the game can be fun for awhile but, at this point I don't even believe it could be fun for new players if they knew what was waiting for them in the endgame. Definitely not worth putting 2000 hours into it, unless you just don't care then more power to you I guess lol.

From New Player to Burned Out in 30 Days – Honest Feedback on Progression and Monetization

I started Throne and Liberty with genuine excitement. The trailers were epic, the world looked amazing, and I was ready to commit. One month later, I’m already on the verge of quitting—not because the game is bad, but because it’s actively punishing to play unless you follow a narrow, frustrating path.

Let me be clear: I’m not a kid asking for handouts. I’m 40 years old, I have a job, and I could absolutely afford to spend money if I felt it was supporting a fair, engaging game.
But here, it doesn’t feel like support.

It feels like a ransom just to keep up.

There’s a massive wall between midgame and endgame. Once you hit that soft cap, you realize:

You’re underleveled for meaningful content.

Your gear progression slows to a crawl.

You can’t join raids or participate in relevant activities without being carried.

PvP is a slaughterhouse unless you’ve no-lifed or paid up.

On top of that, even basic co-op content like dungeons is broken.

I’ve spent days queueing for matchmaking—zero players.
Why? Because the system is dead unless you’re already inside a guild or organizing externally.
That’s not how an MMO should work. Matchmaking content should be thriving, accessible, and rewarding. Instead, it’s a ghost town.

It’s not about skill. It’s not about time management.
It’s about being gated out of content unless you fit into that 5% of players in hardcore guilds or spend enough to bypass the grind. And the grind itself?
Repetitive, unrewarding, and badly tuned for solo or casual players.

Why are you locking the best parts of your game behind grind walls and spending traps? Why is “just playing” not enough to progress anymore? This isn’t a free-to-play gacha. It’s a premium MMORPG made by veterans. You’re better than this—or at least you should be.

Here’s what you need to seriously rethink:

Smoother mid-to-endgame progression that doesn’t stall out unless you pay or get carried.

Real PvE catch-up systems and meaningful solo/small group content.

A monetization model that respects the time and intelligence of players, not one that exploits frustration.

And make matchmaking work—co-op dungeons shouldn’t be empty in a “massively multiplayer” game.

You’re alienating the exact kind of players who keep MMOs alive: adults with some time, some money, and a willingness to invest long-term—if they feel respected. Right now, it feels like the game doesn’t want me to play unless I play it your way: guild zerg or wallet open.

That’s not freedom. That’s manipulation.
