The demo was ok, but mandatory puzzles? I hate puzzles like this. Are they mantaory in the full game?

Can anyone help me solve the Puzzle in the demo. Its the second one with 2 1 power rocks and a 39 whuppity. I really can't see how to get the required power with the limited amount of spellcasts. Or is this an impossible puzzle for the "end of the demo"?
