I bought this game about a year ago and plaed it a lot back then. It's a nice change of pace from Payday, its main competitor, in the fact that its enemies are fewer than in Payday, but more bulletspongey. I find the roguelike elements to be enjoyable, but quite repetitive. It's pretty trivial to win a good run once you find an optimized strategy that works for you, as opposed to other rogue likes - I think this game needs to either drop the randomness or fully lean into it.

The reason for the negative review is that sometime since I last played the game and now, they have added images into the game that were generated using AI. I had hoped they would just be used in the Halloween map as placeholders for a seasonal event, which doesn't justify it in the least, but is at least reasonable, but once I hopped into Shuffle mode I noticed them everywhere. I would rather INGAME STUDIOS put up sketches and drafts of storyboard artists than them using generative AI. It not only feels untrue to the games 90's setting to use such technology, but completely goes against every acceptable stance on generative AI. I would not have bought the game a year ago if I knew it would take a turn like this, and will no longer play it as it distracts me too much. Very unfortunate for such a solid shooter.

You can tell Crime Boss was made by a highly enthusiastic team who really wanted to put every possible idea into the title. now, does that work? Well, uh, mostly.

There's three categories to keep in mind about this game: Content, technical issues, and tone. How you feel about those probably determines if you'll enjoy it.

Content: There's a lot, but a lot of it is also tied up in some (rather high effort) character missions you're likely to only play once, so this is awkward: you have to dig to find some of the content and not all of it is readily available in the replayable campaign and co-op modes. The foundations here are pretty good, but I could really go for more bigger missions - you do all the small jobs to exhaustion in baker's battle so in co-op we tend towards the Big Heists, and there just aren't quite enough of those yet. More small and large jobs would improve both modes, of course. I am an expert at raiding this one warehouse, let me tell you.

Technical stuff: Honestly there's days I wonder how this game functions. Most of the time, it works. Bugs tend to be funny (flying SWAT vans) rather than crippling, but there's some of the latter too. You will also learn to love and/or hate shader compilation on every startup. If you expect a perfectly polished experience, don't. That said, dev support for fixing issues has been pretty good; they want this to be good just like you do. But go in eyes open; you're gonna get bugs and UI weirdness and annoyances here. Nothing worse than the competition, though...

And last, tone. This game is absolutely made by fans of their inspirations and the inspirations are obvious. You're going to get a lot of uneven quality celebrity VO and some absolutely insane line reads. At a certain point you just have to sit back, relax, and let the absurdity wash over you. Be willing to laugh a little, or else you're not gonna have a good time. Think of it this way, the meme potential is strong ... I just don't know how intentionally.

Overall, games are meant to be fun. I think CB does that. It's absurd, yes. It's buggy around the edges, yes. But it's done with enthusiasm and - credit where it's due here - perseverance. It's good today, and if IGS can keep expanding on its strengths, it'll move from "I recommend this at the price" to "I just recommend this, period."

i dont like the multiplayer but the roguelite mode is great

The game was relased in a poor state, but it got much better with a lot of updates and care by the dev that are still active!! The story is nice and it has a very nice amount of replayability, the IA it's not great not the worse but i wouldn't call it good, let's settle with decent. I'm happy to see the game wasn't abbandoned and i look forward to more updates!

Simple, but quite entertaining FPS. With A LOT of style.
This game may have its flaws, but if you like the genre, you will find yourself spending hours and hours grinding your way to the top

Came to checkout Crime Boss after several hundred hours in PD 3... First session? 10hish...
Yeahh.... If they just keep adding content, more levels more stuff and more stuff... Without breaking the mechanics horribly, or somehow backpedaling several months of dev bc poor design choices.

I uh.. Bye PD 3, I'll um... Call you from Rockay City, maybe. My other daddy treats me better, also has a bigger... Base.

Absolutely huggable this game is, warmly recommend, go touch it, it's so goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

This is what Payday 3 could have been, but with an interesting Rogue-Lite twist.
Game doesn't take itself seriously and nor should you.
Graphics look great, gameplay is great, optimization and AI could use some work, but i have seen worse.

I played much more then 50 hours in offline mode...
This game is fast easy to catch and very addictive. Strongly recommend.

Great game, especially to play solo.
