SS 1.8 Patch Note (Spring Cleaning Update!)

Spring has arrived! We did a massive Spring cleaning on Speedway Survival, making it look better than ever! This is the biggest patch ever, so please tune in to try out all the new mechanics of the game!

Language Update

-5 new languages added! (Traditional Chinese, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German)
We wanted to reach out to an even bigger audience. We highly thank people playing our game all over the world! Including the requested Polish language, we have added the languages from the most common countries that our game is played in.

Mechanic Update

-New monster added!
Meet Slither, an augmented snake that has blades attached to its tongue. It moves really slowly in one direction, but is the first invincible monster! So watch out before running away from other monsters!

-Battery charge time 1.0 seconds -> 2.0 seconds!
Battery time has now increased! We noticed once people run out of charge, there were not a lot of options for players to fight back in harder levels. Saving up batteries now has a bigger return as it will charge double the amount than before.

-CawCaw (Crow) ability adjusted.
Many players have died and hated CawCaw who can instantly chase you down and kill you. This felt unfair, so we changed its abilities to fly in a straight line on the map rather than chase Sola.

-Kill count increased for other monsters
To reduce the time spent in harder levels on both story mode and endless mode, we increased the kill count for stronger enemies.

Killing these mobs will increase the following amount for the kill count:
Alby (Squirrel) -> 2
CawCaw (Crow) -> 5
Ravage (Raccoon) -> 3

Story Mode Update

-Number of levels 15->30!
We doubled the number of levels! Players can now go inside the UT Tower with stacks of bookshelves blocking their path to other lamps. What is Luna doing all the way up inside the tower??

-New Level dialogues
Following the increase in levels, new dialogues have been added for them. Find out more about Speedway as Sola talks with other characters!

-Objective label added.
Objectives now appear in a big text at the start of the level. Players will now easily understand what they have to do for every level. More objectives will be added in the future..!

-New characters added!
Along with a new enemy, we introduce you to two new allies!
Terry, the Ghost Librarian, has returned from the dead after the blood moon awakened. He has studied shadow monsters when he was still alive.
Shorthorn, the Rejected Mascot, is trying to fight his way through monsters just like Sola. He has a special gift that he prepared for a great warrior.
You will encounter Terry on Level 5, along with Shorthorn on Level 25. Betzel’s encounter has now been moved to Level 15.

-Skip Button Added.
Considering the relatively long dialogue between Sola and the new characters, we added a skip button so that players can skip the dialogue to jump right into action.

-Monster Log added
Terry will give you a Monster Log that will keep track of all the monsters you encounter. Not only that, but you can check its abilities and stat, so that you can strategize whenever you encounter them!
(UI will be properly updated in the next patch)

-Sun Pendant added
Shorthorn will give you the sun pendant, a very helpful item that will revive you once after you lose all your health! When you revive, you will gain max health and charge, so get ready to fight back! This item will help you beat Story Mode much easily, but you also have the option to unequip it if you like to challenge yourself.

Endless Update

-Endless Mob Spawn Time Shortened for every round.
Mobs will now spawn faster every round. We hope this makes Endless Mode more challenging for players.

Previous: 0.1 second faster every round
Current: 0.2 second faster every round

-Endless Fade Effect Changed.
The fade to black transition is now faster so players don’t have to wait too long to select their bagel.

Visual Update

-Title screen
The logo of KSI Games will now appear whenever you turn on the game!

-Mob visible order changed.
Mobs will now appear on top of other obstacles, so players will not be confused of the monster’s position.

Bug Fixes

-Small translation errors have been fixed for other languages.
-Sola speed will now increase properly after obtaining the Everything Bagel.
-Returning to the Title Screen while playing Endless Mode will no longer freeze the monsters.
-Wall boundaries have been fixed for level 2,3,4 and 5.

Speedway Survival v1.7.1 (Inventory & Achievements!)

Hello! We’re here with our first patch of 2025! We sincerely apologize for the big hiatus since Halloween. As we now have a clear direction of future content, we will work to add them bit by bit so that you won’t have to wait for a long time. Here are the first few changes we added!

Inventory Update

-Inventory System Added!

We added an inventory for important items that you will be collecting along Story Mode! These items will provide several benefits such as stat boosts or unlocking new features. Stay tuned for future updates with new characters providing more items!

Story Mode Update

-Everything Bagel

After clearing Level 5 in Story Mode, Betzel will now give you the Everything Bagel. Once obtained, Sola's status (Health, Charge, Speed) will be slightly increased. This early on boost will help you finish the game, especially in the higher levels! (Hmm, there seems to be more squares than usual in the level select menu…!)

-Ending Reward

Once you finish Story Mode, you will also get a small reward added to your inventory. I wonder what it will be??

Achievement Update

-Achievements Added!

To keep track of your progress, achievements have been added to Steam! Be on the lookout for new achievements that might reveal future updates…!!

Animation Update

Animations have been updated for the following:

-Sola’s forward animation
-Raccoon dying animation

A big update before Halloween! v1.7 is here! This patch we were working hard to revamp the overall game experience by improving visuals, adding animations, and finally adding language options! Here is what changed for this patch:

Options Update

Languages Added! (Chinese, Russian, Korean, Japanese)

4 new languages have been added to the game for a more authentic and smooth experience! We hope players from all over the world including China, Russia, Korea, and Japan can enjoy the game in their local language! Thank you for Digital Hearts for helping the Chinese and Japanese translations!

Jumpscare Off Option Added.

We added an option for players who thought the jumpscare was a little scary! Now, you can choose to not look at Sola’s dead body after the game is over.

Visual Updates

Font Changed.

Fonts were changed so that they are more readable! We hope this will help you to read the dialogue without confusion.

Black Gradient Animation Added.

To not confuse players of their surroundings, the black gradient will now slowly appear as an animation. Check for the locations of the fences and streetlight!

Health & Charge Bar Separated.

The health bar and flashlight charge bar is now separated! Now it is much more visible for players to check when the flashlight runs out.

Guide Light Animations Added.

The guide lights that appear in the direction of newly shining streetlights are now more visible with a star animation!

Sundae/Battery Effect Added.

Whenever you earn the sundaes and batteries, Sola will change color to show that the item was properly obtained.

Sola Animations Added.(Partial)

We changed part of Sola’s animation so that it looks more like she is running smoothly.

Next Level Area Visuals Added.

Whenever you beat the level, the area to the next level is now shining with a bright light so that you know where you can/can’t enter!

Credit Animations Added.

Credit animations have been added so that we can highlight our contributors!

Gameplay Updates

Tutorial Improved.

Tutorial has been improved so that the narrative flows a little smoother while also teaching players to use the Spacebar for Interacting objects and turning on/off their flashlight!

Pretzel Truck & Betzel Story Added. (Level 5)

More dialogue between Sola and Betzel has been added! Learn the story behind how Sola got her free bagels from Betzel.

Endless Mob Updated.

Endless mob’s speed and damage are increased little by every round so that you can feel a slight difference as you progress Endless Mode!
Details:
Mob speed increases 5 every round.
Mob damage increases 1 every round.

Fence Barrier Improved.

The fence barrier was improved so that you don’t get stuck while trying to move in between fences.

Bug Fixes

-Items are deleted when they are in an unobtainable location. (Ex: On top of the pretzel truck)
-Flashlight Charge Bar has been fixed so that it properly shows the correct amount of charge left.
-Flashlights are now properly turned off when your charge reaches 0.

Now that we have a solid foundation for players to navigate the game on their own, we hope to add more content that will make the game feel more engaging. Look forward to more characters, features, and modes added in the future!

Speedway Survival v1.6! (Full Release & Endless Mode!)

Speedway Survival is fully released with version 1.6! Thank you so much for everyone’s support for the past 6 months during early access. We will continue to update the game to provide a more fun experience for you! Here are the major changes made to celebrate Speedway Survival’s full release, including the renewed endless mode!!

Price Adjustments

The game’s final cost has been decided to be $1.99!

Originally we were planning the game to be $4.99, but due to the production speed as an indie company, as well as the critical bugs that were found right after the full release, we thought it was an unreasonable price at this point of the game’s state.

We sincerely apologize for the overestimated price.

Speedway Survival’s price has now been permanently set as $1.99. We will make sure to constantly update the game so that we can make it worth every penny you spend on this game. Thank you for the support.

Endless Mode Update

Hmm what’s that..? Oh, is that the pretzel truck? Oh never mind, it was Betzel’s Bagels!
Introducing the all new endless mode! After encountering the bagel truck and beating Level 5, players will now be able to play this mode where the fun never ends!

Endless is now divided into rounds.

Endless are now divided into rounds. Every round the number of enemies increases, and they will get stronger!

Bagels have been added. (NO PRETZELS!)

Endless mode now has upgrades. After you complete every round, you will get a free bagel from Betzel that will make you stronger! Choose one of the three bagels to either increase your max charge duration, max speed, or max health!

Mob Update

Mob spawning speed increased.

We’ve noticed that the game pace feels slower now with the addition of the battery and turning off your flashlight. We’ve adjusted the monster spawn time so that the game doesn’t feel loose at the beginning.

UI Update

Full Screen implemented!

A full screen has been implemented for a more immersive experience! No more small windows! (We will add window options in a later patch.)

Level Selection Screen UI Added (X Marks, Tutorial Button)

Level Selection Screen has been improved! X marks appear for levels that you haven’t unlocked yet, as well as a tutorial button for those who want to play the tutorial again.

Title Screen UI Fixed (Credit Button)

The Windows version had an annoying bug with the Credits Button stretching up to the Options menu. Now the button size has been properly adjusted.

Bug Fixes

Data save has been properly adjusted to not be removed after every update.
Mobs are no longer frozen by pressing the Back To Title button in the pause menu.

Speedway Survival 1.5! (Preparing Official Release)

Speedway Survival version 1.5. It’s finally here! Thank you for those who have been patiently waiting. We wanted to make sure to prepare Speedway Survival’s official release, which is why there were many changes being made over the summer! We will make sure to speed up the development process as our plan is to release the game at the end of this month!

Official Release Plans (September 30th!!!)

Speedway Survival will be officially released on September 30th! Unfortunately, that means our FREE early access is coming to a close. The planned release price will be $4.99. Please get your copy of Speedway Survival before the early access ends!

Without further ado, here are the changes that were made!

Level Updates

Number of Levels: 3 -> 15!

Only 3 levels? It’s hard to call it a real game when you don’t have enough content overall. That is why we have increased the number of levels to 15!!! Hope you enjoy the expanded experience on Speedway!

Fences have been added across levels.

There were no actual barriers except the mobs for you to reach lamps. Now, many fences have been added that will get in your way. Your movement has been limited!

Combat Update

Guide Lights have been added to the HUD.

It was unfair for players that you had to second guess the next lamp that will be turned on. Now, there is a visual indicator on the HUD that will display where the lamps are turned on. It will fade after a few seconds, so make sure you move faster

Flashlight On/off switch added.

An on and off switch has been added for the flashlight! Now you can save up your flashlight charge and not waste it while there are no mobs around. This will especially help you in higher levels!

Batteries added!

To further help you with saving your flashlight charge, batteries have been added as a drop item! It will increase 1 second of your charge. Save them up and collect them when there are no lights around!

Sola’s movement speed: 200 -> 175

To balance with the new mechanics of the on/off switch and the batteries, Sola’s movement speed has been decreased a little. Before, it was too easy for you to run to other lamps without any penalty. This decrease will make sure you strategize your movement by not staying in one spot and use your flashlight charge wisely. (Mob1 Speed: 100-125)

Mob Updates

Mobs now spawn randomly instead of spawning in a linear pattern.

There was a feedback that the pattern of the game was too simple. Just running around in circles avoiding and killing monsters. To provide more strategical gameplay, mobs will now randomly spawn for each level instead of spawning in a linear pattern. As a side note, different types of mobs are set to spawn for different levels, to provide diversity.

2 new mobs! (Crow, raccoon)

We added 2 new mobs!
The crow, which is super fast, will charge right at you! If you hear a cawing sound, be prepared with your flashlight to kill it!
The raccoon, which acts similarly as the albino squirrel, will eat any sundaes that it passes on the ground. No more saving up sundaes for you!

Monster sizes have been reduced.

It was extremely hard to run past the mobs without getting damaged. Now, mobs are smaller enough for Sola to move around them.

Tutorial update

Tutorial with controls added.

We added a basic tutorial with a story that explains how to move around and turn on your flashlight.

Bug Fix

You will now be able to play endless mode right after beating story mode.
Mob collision not giving damage has been removed.

SpeedwaySurvival 1.4.3 (Quality of Life)

Speedway Survival is back in production after a one month break! The first update of the summer is here!

Starting off small (but still important), we brought some quality of life updates in version 1.4.3.

Options (Sound)

The options menu was added in both the main menu and pause menu. For now, we only have sound control, but look forward for more options!

UI Update (Fonts & Spacing)

Font is now united across the entire game. The buttons were also rearranged so they have equal spacing.

Pause Menu Update

The pause menu is now added into endless mode as well! It doesn't have restart available, so don't try to abuse pausing for strategizing :(

Save Data

Your data is now saved whenever you play the game! For now, this means we will keep track of your high score in endless mode and the total monsters you killed in the game (which you can see in the credits). But in the future, this will come in handy when we keep track of the number of levels you beated! (Ahem..spoiler for next patch..)

File Cleanup

This is just for the developers, but we now have a more cleaned up file tab that helps us with navigation. Which does mean better production!

Early Access Launch! (Version 1.4.2)

Speedway Survival is officially on Steam! Further updates will now also be posted on Steam as well! To refer to previous updates, please check the https://sunchankweon.itch.io/speedway-survival devlogs. For the Steam release, I added a couple of changes based on the feedback I got from Games Y'all! Without further ado, here are the changes for version 1.4.2!

UI Update

The UI for the Game Over screen has been updated. Now, the retrying level button is at the top and being more accessible than restarting the game.

Monster Balancing

Monsters were balanced out a little. Thought it was weird to have a higher chance for the squirrel monster to drop the sundae than the other two monsters. Now, the item drop percentage of the eyeball monster and squirrel monster had swapped, making it easier to beat early levels and difficult to beat later levels. Speed has also changed for the squirrel monster! To make it worth the monster appearing in the final level, it can now be sometimes faster than Sola's maximum speed! Run away!!!

Pause Menu

A pause menu was finally added! It took some harder coding that I thought, considering that you have to basically freeze EVERYTHING once you press the pause button (ESC). Light time, movements, spawn time, everything! (Oh, but except for stopping animations..those will come in the future..oOo;;)

Flashlight 8 directions

One of the biggest feedback I have received in Games Y'all was that the controls were too snappy..so I added 8 directions for the flashlight! And while testing, man did it feel so better! I was so used to the controls I hadn't realized that it was challenging omo;; Now, you have a better chance of attacking while moving as you can attack 360 degrees!
