Earlier today the team released the following update to the game on both Steam and Windows 10/Xbox live:

• Fixed an issue that prevented some users from ever establishing a data connection to other users in a lobby
  
• Reduced the overall time it takes users to establish data connections to other users in a lobby
  
• Fixed a crash that occurred after Intro Videos if the user had set their Language for non-Unicode programs to Japanese

We recently received a report that a user who was previously unable to load into the game with their firewall active was able to do so once they changed their firewall settings. Below you will see what the user did to allow them to load the game.

When playing Rise of Nations: Extended Edition make sure you have the following enabled for ANY of your firewall settings. Windows or 3rd party.

• Under your firewall settings add exceptions for both Public and Private for any Rise of Nations files that you see
  
• If you've already done this, double check to ensure that your Firewall pop-up hasn't loaded behind the game window. If this has happened it could be asking for permission to run Rise files. Not selecting to allow could cause performance issues

This should allow you to load into the game and reduce any issues you may have previously had loading the game. Please let us know if you have any success after making these changes.

After some hard work we are starting to see increased stabilization with gameplay both internally and externally. This means that most users that previously had issues connecting to the game should no longer have these issues.

However, there is still a chance that some users may experience intermittent connectivity issues. Should this be the case, please try working through the troubleshooting steps provide at the link below. If still unable to connect, please provide as much feedback as possible about what you're experiencing, and your computer specs.

Greetings,

Early yesterday evening we began to notice that some players were unable to connect to the game. Upon further investigation it appears as though we are experiencing select service outages that are preventing some players from playing Rise of Nations: Extended Edition.

We understand that having downtime of any kind is less than ideal and as such we are working as fast as we can to identify and resolve the issue. Once we know more we will be sure to update the community.

As you know we’ve been heads down working towards resolving the issues that surfaced shortly after the launch of Patch 1.20. After some hard work and help from the community, we feel that we’re now in a place to push patch 1.20 live. Our current target date is later today 08/22/17.

Note: This date is subject to change

Here’s what this update means to you. It means that version 1.10 will no longer default as the primary version of the game. That will be replaced with version 1.20. However, at the request of the community version 1.10 will remain playable after the release of patch 1.20, though you will be required to manually select it from the drop down menu on Steam in order to play.

When we flip the switch later today to patch 1.20 Xbox live players will still be able to join Steam players in match making for Rise games. View the full post on cross-network play below.

Additionally, below is a list of the latest fixes that will release with patch 1.20.

• Fixed an issue where music volume in settings was not carrying over into gameplay
• Fixed an issue where music cuts out when major events occur in gameplay
• Fixed an issue where music volume was being increased on track rollover
• Fixed an issue where entering combat was not changing music
• Fixed an issue where music was not reverting to economic after combat
• Re-encoded audio files for compatibility
• Fixed an issue that prevented connecting to Online Services if the user had set their Steam Friends status to Offline
• Fixed an issue that prevented videos from displaying in Full screen
• Fixed an issue that caused incompatibility with future versions of Windows 10
• Fixed an issue where multiple players joining a lobby at the same time could cause players to appear as open slots
• Fixed an issue where rapidly joining and leaving a lobby could cause a player to appear as an open slot
• Changed the default video resolution to 1024x768 Full screen

Earlier today it was announced that Rise of Nations: Extended Edition will release as a cross-network play game that will allow players to play against each other on Xbox live, and Steam starting September 14th 2017.

Starting today we are adding Beta users with our Windows 10 UWP version of the game, we hope that you will join in, and help test this exciting new feature. Nothing should feel different other than you may see some Xbox live players popping in here and there.

We would love to hear all your feedback and insight on this great new feature, and are excited for the upcoming live release of cross-network play on September 14th. Thank you for all of your help and continued support.

There is a new update on the beta branch that should address a few key issues identifed in patch 1.20. Extra participation in this version of the beta branch would be greatly appreciated as the more data we can gather the better. Please leave all feedback in the beta branch section of the forums.

Note: This is not the live branch. This is the beta branch

• Fixed some instances of players appearing as an open slot on lobby join
• Fixed some instances of players appearing with the name "Human" on lobby join
• Fixed an issue when retrying timed out P2P connections

How to access the Beta branch:

Your mainline branch will be 1.10. The beta branch will be V1_20_beta. To switch between branches, right-click on the game name from your Steam library and select Properties. Select the Betas tab. Use the drop down box to either opt out of all betas, or choose the V1_20_beta branch.
