This game just doesn’t seem to achieve what it sets out to.
The entire experience feels bad and is pretty unpleasant.

Almost nothing, aside for the most Generic “The Forest” style base-building, feels complete, and much of the game is flavorless and boring.

So, here are my primary gripes.

1: Resource Gathering – This is pretty feels-bad. You do not actually gather resources from anything, you walk up to stuff like trees and corpses, select it, and it opens up a menu where you have to do a little bit of spreadsheet management to select what resources (from whats available) you want to harvest… What tool to use… and manage your tool’s durability against the stuff you want to gather.
This then just fades your screen out while time magically elapses. This time lapse consumes your food/water/fatigue

2: Building – There are two main ways things are built. One is the basic Survival style Craft-From-Inventory, Place-in-world instantly. The things that let you do that are pretty few and far between.

The vast majority of everything else must be selected from a crafting menu, placed as a “hologram” and then interacted with again separately to add the materials in, and THEN you get to time-lapse build it.

Almost everything in this game is done in a menu, and timelapsed.

3: Combat – There are three main kinds of combat
-Normal enemies – these are pretty random and will either charge you head on and deliver nearly unstoppable attacks (especially if you are using something like a spear, where blocking does not work), or will zig-zag randomly and deliver the same kind of attack (Especially if you are using a bow, where blocking does not work, either for some reason)
-Pest Enemies – these are things like spiders, scorpions, and rattlesnakes (great… the phobia trifecta). They will either be spotted easily, and you can spear or bow them at range….
Or they will not be seen due to grass, rocks, or any of the random bugs in the game where they just don’t show up in your little vision ability thing.
In such a case, they get a free hit on you, and almost always instantly poison you. This is not like normal game poisons where it just does tic damage and goes away… no no… its like a disease that usually worsens and makes everything suck a little more until you use the one single item that is relatively annoying to craft to heal it.
-Yourself – you will be in constant combat with the existential urge to either throw yourself off the nearest height, or drown yourself in the sea, just to end the suffering this game thrusts upon your weak mortal psyche.

4: Encumbrance – Weight limit in this game is stupid low (starts at like 35-40 units), and items like simple hides can weigh 5 units a pop. Tiny rocks weigh 2 units. LEAVES are like 1 unit… Its pretty scuffed. This means you will be running back and forth to corpses and spending a lot of time either wheeling around the wheelbarrow or just leaving a lot of stuff to rot and despawn.


Overall… skip it. The game feels asset-flippish and unpolished, and the overall experience is more tedium and frustration than it is “survival”.
Its like they took “Green Hell” and “The Forest” and just kept the worst parts.
There may be a good game under the hood of this abomination somewhere, but until they let people mod it, we may never see it.

I want to start by saying, I love survival games. I actually liked Green hell, which a lot of people seem to contribute this game's toughness to that one. But I disagree, there is a big difference in this game and Green Hell. Green hell was actually enjoyable to play and if you knew what you needed to survive, you could find it in abundance everywhere. I had fun playing that game... sometimes frustrating and hard... but an enjoyable frustration that went away once you got the hang of it. If you like a game that will just piss you off the whole time and make you wish you had used your gaming time on any other game than this one... then this game is for you. I have never seen such ridiculousness in a game in my life. It is not fun cause you spend all your time gathering ingredients that are literally IMPOSSIBLE to find... especially when you need them more than once... and you will need them a million times a minute cause everything you make only lasts like one or two times, then breaks. It's not reality in any sense of the term. Your on many islands, that are filled with rocks and trees, but you cannot find sticks and rocks anywhere? Honestly, the thing that made me the most angry in this game was finding rocks. You will need these the most. Their everywhere you look, you can see them all around you, but somehow, they are nowhere at all. Meaning you cannot get rocks from rocks. You have to find a special "pile" of them to get a rock. I have spent half an hour just running around the map trying to find a single rock cause my axe or hammer broke after like 2 uses and rocks are apparently a rare material on all of these islands. Your carry-weight is ridiculously low and you cannot explore or find parts of the story cause your spending all your time trying to find like 1.000 different types of sticks (big branch, sticks, long stick, strong stick, etc. etc.) that you can only find on very specific types of trees or specific areas that are sooo far away, you will die before you get there. But the biggest thing that turned me off with this game is the building mechanic. You have to find 10 materials just to build a kit to build with, then another 15 items to build the actual wall with, and all of that just to be able to build one single wall.... so to build a shelter... you will have to do this process like 30 times... oh, and don't forget you also need all the materials to build a hammer, which will break constantly, and a saw, because you have to have that tool too, and a carpentry bench, all to build that ONE single wall. It is so time consuming and tedious, that it takes the fun out of building and throws it right out the window... which also takes half an hour to build. I know I'm exaggerating on some of these numbers... but it's the only way to get my point across on how frustratingly not fun this whole process is. Every time I have played, I rage quit and wish I had played a better game and not wasted my time on this one. I think it could be a fun game, but it needs a complete overhaul of the materials needed to do anything. Don't even get me started on the constant nonstop ailments you will have, which also require 15 items to heal. If your out in the sun for 5 minutes, which is impossible not to be cause... island = sun... you will get sunburn, which quickly turns into a heat stroke and unless you have unlocked every single recipe for each item needed to fix it, will kill you. That is just one of a million ailments in this game. You literally can't even make a rope without injuring yourself doing it. Everything you attempt to make or build hurts you... I mean every single thing. It's ridiculous... like your a monkey trying to make these things and not a human with a working brain that can do simple tasks without hurting yourself. Then there's the horrible fighting mechanic. The worst I've ever used in a game. It is impossible to fight back and no way to block incoming attacks. After many hours, i still could not avoid hits from animals and bugs with a spear or a bow and arrow..... just trust me, the fighting mechanic is horrible and you WILL get cuts and scratches that will have to be healed or quickly kill you cause you cannot fight back without taking many many hits. Traveling still confuses me... I somehow quick traveled to a northern desert area, and tried to get back to where I built my home base cause I didn't have what i needed to survive in this area yet (there is no rain, very few coconut trees, so water is impossible to get here). The game gives you no direction on how to get to certain areas or how to get back to the main one... I'm sure there is a way, but i have not figured it out yet, so i am stuck in an area I do not want to be in at the moment and cannot figure out how to get back. The game does not explain how to get from one map area to another. I'm sure I could go online and figure out how to get back to the main island, but I'm so done with this game, i don't even want to bother anymore. I would pass on this one. I have played too long now to get a refund, so i will save you the time and money and just say.. pass on this one... their are many better survival games, that are actually fun, that you can buy on Steam. I do not understand the positive reviews on this one... I just don't.... unless your a masochist who loves to punish themselves and want no joy in ur life.

As a child I read Robinson Crusoe and daydreamt about surviving in a lonely island just using my wits.
This game arrived to deliver that experience, plus much more.
To me , it's the perfect Survival Game. No multiplayer, no weird monsters, just you, natural elements and a very cool mystery to solve
