The crash had a chance of happening when assigning the soldier role to one of your plebs.

let me introduce to you the newest improvements:

• Enemies will spawn again after clearing the game so you'll have something to do.
  
• To make it easier to do trigger the correct interactions the interaction zones have been made narrower in many cases.
  
• Rain above a certain threshold will now enable the growth boost for fields.
  
• The mountains in the background now change color based on the area you're currently in.
  
• Currently equipped items will be taken into account now when reassigning warriors.
  
• The limit for dwellings/houses has been increased to 7 (from 5).
  
• You can now cancel the items in the crafting queues, as long as the work on them hasn't started yet. Resources will be reimbursed.
  
• A subtle change in the UI will now show that you can't build in certain areas.

this time I have a list of various changes which will either fix issues of the last version, or introduce some QoL.

• Villagers won't have too hard to solve tasks anymore.
  
• Obstacles marked for destruction will now be marked properly.
  
• Farmers will now "handle" chicken regardless of their distance to the farm.
  
• The player can now butcher hunted game by using either an axe or a sword.
  
• Some texts are shown for longer.
  
• The resource cost will be displayed in red if you don't have enough in stock.
  
• Adjusted the logic for deciding job preferences to get more warriors in late-game.
  
• The fish inventory will now be shown if the pleb you're talking to requests fish.
  
• Fixed job auto-assignment issues.
  
• Fighting groups won't move through another as often anymore.
  
• Resources can't go below 0 anymore.
  
• Hare holes won't disappear as quickly anymore. They will also get marked if you try to build too close to them.
  
• Fixed a crash related to assigning warriors when you don't have any weapons in stock.
  
• Fixed an issue with marked trees not being cut.
  
• Fixed a weird delay in the 2nd altar event.
  
• Fixed some draw order related bugs.
  
• Fixed unique buildings being shown in build mode even though they're already built.

Hi there,
A few days have passed since the game's release.
I already rolled out some minor fixes earlier, but would like to inform you about some fixes and changes I implemented the last days:

• Vagabonds will now switch to their favorite job once you accept them. This excludes hunters (when you have no bow for them) and warriors.
  
• Crash when navigating empty crafting tabs fixed
  
• Soft locks after event encounters under certain circumstances should be fixed now
  
• Crashes caused by the bandit scout's behavior should be fixed
  
• A glitch where your miners would never get any resources should be fixed
  
• The tolerance for reaching a certain position has been loosened. This should fix at least some of the causes for issues where builders wouldn't build or upgrade buildings.

I'm sorry for any weird crashes or glitches you might have experienced, and I will keep fixing everything I can find or get informed about as soon as possible.

Plebs & Pillagers is officially released!
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who followed the development of the game, tested the demo, and gave valuable feedback which made the game better than it would have been without.

Let's dive right into the patch notes for Plebs & Pillagers' most recent v0.8.9 demo update!
A month has passed since the last update, and I mostly spent my time on adding new features while making sure to fix bugs which impacted the experience.

New Features & Changes:

• Mood system: There was a simple mood system before, but now the mood for each pleb is tracked individually. Plebs in a bad mood might leave the village.
  
• Trait system: Plebs now have specific traits which impact how fast they walk or work, how much they tend to eat, and also how much their mood is impacted by certain events.
  
• Preferences: Plebs will now prefer to do specific jobs. Allowing them to do that job will not only make them happier, but also make them better/faster.
  
• Pleb quests: Each day, a set count of plebs will have a (re-)quest for you! Fulfilling it will cash you some money and will also increase the pleb's mood greatly.
  
• Overhauled the main house indoors: You can now cook and sleep in the main house. But most importantly: The treasurer will now show you all kinds of useful stats!
  
• Fishing: You can now buy a fishing rod to catch some fish! The fisherman who sells the fishing rod will then buy different fish every day, so you'll be able to make quite some money!
  
• Cooking: You cannot only catch and sell, but also cook fish! This will help you keep your food stocks up to keep everyone satisfied.
  
• Soldier equipment: You can now directly choose what equipment soldiers should use, giving you more control.

Fixes:

• Fixed a bug which would (possibly) break your save when saving indoors
  
• Loading an autosaved save state would skip a day. Fixed now.
  
• Mood gain by defeating enemies works again
  
• The villager limit is now calculated correctly. Guards on towers wouldn't count to the limit when checking if a new pleb should spawn, but still impacted the mood decrease when there are too many plebs.
  
• Many more small adjustments and fixes

The gameplay has become a lot deeper with this update. I really hope you like it!
This will also (most likely) be the last demo version before the full release. I cannot confirm the release date yet, but I'm very much trying to get this game out this year!

it's time for an update on Plebs & Pillagers' development!
But first things first: thanks to everyone who checked out the demo in the recent Steam Next Fest!
The feedback I got was both reassuring as well as helpful. I'm also very happy to see the number of players enjoying the game increase and it's very much motivating me to give you the best experience with Plebs & Pillagers I can possibly deliver to you.

Now, I've continued working on the game and implemented quite some new and updated features based on everyone's feedback.
Take a look at the changes in the new demo version:

New & Updated:

• There is a proper savegame menu now with three separate slots. You can now also delete your save file and skip the intro on new playthroughs.
  
• You can now change the pants in the character creation. This also comes with a new pair of pants! :)
  
• Overhaul of the economy. Many players were upset with the "steep" prices of the merchant while he's at the trading post, calling him a greedy cutthroat... Those prices are nerfed now. Also, resource prices for equipment were adjusted.
  
• It was hard to figure out when a new building type would become available, so the player character will now give a hint once you can build new ones.
  
• Overhauled the UI for trading (at the trading post) and crafting.
  
• Slightly nerfed the strength of attacking parties.
  
• You can now leave the trading and crafting menu with the menu button
  
• Some other minor visual adjustments

Fixes:

• There was a problem with the way the sound and music volume scaled. It's not perfect, but should behave a lot more consistent now.
  
• Merchant and scout speech bubbles would overlap with the player one, resulting in you not being able to see the details properly. This should be fixed now.
  
• You shouldn't be attacked by multiple enemies at the same time anymore.
  
• Plebs shouldn't walk through obstacles anymore
  
• Drops now won't spawn in obstacles
  
• The building preview was a bit irritating while walking around, so it will now fade out a bit while you're moving
  
• The step sounds have been replaced, because they were a bit too "crunchy". Please let me know if the new ones are okay!
  
• Various visual glitches fixed

Regarding the future of Plebs & Pillagers, there is much more great stuff incoming! I was mainly focused on getting the story content done, but I shifted to creating a deeper experience with more meaningful interactions now:

• Each pleb will have some kinds of traits which will make them better at specific jobs, as well as job preferences and dislikes.
  
• Each pleb will have their own moral value which reflects how content they are. Even now plebs might leave if the overall morale is too low, but in the future you will be able to manage their needs etc. a lot better.
  
• There will be more activities in the world and for the player.
  
• The indoor area of the player's headquarters will be overhauled. Right now I plan to implement a bed, so you can skip some time if you want to, and the treasurer/scribe will give you useful stats and information on your village in the future.
