0.6.0 Patch Notes and Future Updates

We thank everyone who participated in the recent 0.6.0 beta test. Based on your valuable feedback, we have now updated the standard version of the game.

0.6.0 Patch Notes

System Updates

The following changes will be applied with the update:
- If you have saved the game in the middle of a run, Sil will return to her home in the corresponding chapter.
- High scores from the Challenge Chapter will be reset.
  - However, records achieved in version 0.5.n will be saved separately and may be displayed through a different UI in the future.
  - ※ Progress made in the 0.6.0 beta will also be reset.
If you have learned the counterattack skill, the special “Underwater Map” that appears under specific conditions starting from Chapter 2 will no longer appear.
When selecting a reward to remove a tag, you can now choose and remove any tag from all existing tags.
Dice Shop
- When replacing a spell’s attribute upgrade, the selected attribute will no longer appear among the choices.
- Fixed a bug where after getting all four scissor attribute upgrades, only the attribute selected for replacement would appear as an option when trying to switch attributes.

Chapter Rework and Difficulty Adjustments

Due to this round of balance changes, most builds now deal significantly more damage. To compensate, enemy health has been increased across all chapters. Additionally, the activation timing of new mechanics introduced in each chapter has been moved forward by one chapter, allowing new players to access core systems more quickly. For Chapter 4, no new systems will be introduced yet, but side missions and rewards will be added in a future update.

Chapter 1

Synergies are now available starting from Chapter 1.
The number of floors per domain has been increased by 1.
The enemy health scaling curve has been adjusted as follows:
- First battle: No changes.

Final boss: ~260% increase.

Chapter 2

Relics and the dice shop now appear from Chapter 2.
The enemy health scaling curve has been adjusted as follows:

First battle: No changes.
Final boss: ~203% increase.

Chapter 3

Players can now select new scissors starting from Chapter 3.
The enemy health scaling curve has been adjusted as follows:

First battle: ~10% increase.
Final boss: ~61% increase.

Chapter 4

The enemy health scaling curve has been adjusted as follows:
- First battle: ~13% increase.
- Final boss: ~68% increase.

Boss Attack Pattern Difficulty Adjustments

Some high-difficulty attack patterns have been toned down to make them easier to avoid. For Nahatra’s second phase in Chapter 4, since the difficulty of her attack patterns has been reduced, the damage she deals has increased. This change is intended to discourage players from simply ignoring her attack patterns in favor of clearing the fight by tanking hits.

Nahatra

First Phase: Added warning indicators to some of her attack patterns.
Intermission Phase: Adjusted the position of the safe zone during the final explosion pattern to make it easier to reach.
Second Phase (Chapter 4): Lowered the difficulty of various attack patterns but increased damage to maintain the overall difficulty of the battle.

Chloe

Intermission Phase: The health of the spider cocoons has been reduced by ~30%.

Balance Adjustments

Difficulty

Compared to Normal mode, the lack of invincibility frames (i-frames) during dashes in Hard mode made it difficult for players to attempt higher difficulties. As a result, we’ve decided to add i-frames to dashes in Hard mode as well.

※ We are currently considering the addition of a new Nightmare difficulty in the future, where difficulty cannot be changed and dashes will not have i-frames, as originally intended.

Hard Mode: Added i-frames to dashes

Sil’s Base Stats

To create a smoother first-time experience while encouraging more natural retry loops, we’ve reduced Sil’s base health but improved other aspects of her gameplay. Additionally, we’ve slightly increased her movement speed and improved the invincibility duration after taking damage.

Increased base movement speed from 5 m/s to 6 m/s.
Reduced base health from 50 to 25.
Increased the player’s invincibility duration after taking a hit from 0.3 seconds to 0.5 seconds, with a gauge now showing the remaining invisibility duration.
Adjusted the way Sil takes damage so that the player will not take multiple hits simultaneously in the same frame.
Fixed an issue where invincibility frames were not applied properly when hit during the use of Butterfly Step.

Upgrade Table

We have adjusted the beginning structure of the upgrade table and the value of certain enhancements to align with Sil’s new base stats and the attack speed of each scissor variant.

Scissors and Skill Adjustments

We have adjusted the effects and values of various buffs to improve their viability. For Magic builds, players can gain stacks of Spell Rampage from critical hits with magic scissors and use a stack of Spell Ramage to increase the damage of a skill. For Sharpness builds, the maximum amount of Sharpness that can be gained has been increased, allowing Broken Scissors and Giant Scissors to dish out more damage than before.

Increased Sharpness Max Count: 200% → 400%
Reworked Spell Ramage functionality:
- Before: Increased the damage of a skill based on how much Spell Ramage you had and reset after use.
- After: Skill damage deals +30% damage and consumes 1 stack of Spell Ramage.
Increased Spell Enhance Max Count from 50% → 60%

Scissors

We’ve increased the base attack speed of all scissors to improve the feel of the first playthrough of the game. Broken Scissors has also been modified to be the best choice for builds that focus on close-range sustained damage. On the other hand, Giant Scissors’s Sharpness efficiency has been decreased to balance out the increase in overall Max Sharpness Count.

Normal Scissors

Attack speed: 1.5/sec → 1.8/sec

Giant Scissors

Attack speed: 0.8/sec → 1.1/sec
Sharpness efficiency: 3x → 1.5x

Magic Scissors

Attack speed: 1.5/sec → 1.8/sec
Spell damage bonus: 30% → 60%
Bug fixes:
- Fixed an issue where repeated casts under certain conditions wouldn’t charge the critical hit counter
- Fixed a priority issue where pressing both spell and scissors buttons would cast scissors first

Broken Scissors

Functionality changed:
- Before: Attacks the enemies with Scissors. After a fixed number of hits, the next attack will be a Critical Hit.
- After: Attacks the enemies with Scissors. After a fixed number of hits, the next attack will be a Critical Hit. Additionally, Sharpness Max Count is increased by 400%.

Damage: 40% → 80%
Attack speed: 3.5/sec → 2.8/sec
Hits required for critical: 2 → 1

Attribute Changes

We have adjusted the Magic attribute for scissors so that it aligns with the effectiveness of the Spell Rampage buff.

Magic
- Before: When Scissors inflict a Critical Hit, increase spell damage by 30%.
- After: When Scissors inflict a Critical Hit, gain 1 stack of Spell Rampage.

Ambush

To improve its synergy with Butterfly Step, its Flower attribute has been reworked.

Attribute Changes

Scissors
- Before: When Ambush inflicts a hit, 90% of Scissors damage is inflicted as Additional Damage.
- After: When Ambush inflicts a hit, 120% of Scissors damage is inflicted as Additional Damage.
Flower
- Before: Spawn 2 Flowers upon hit.
- After: When casting Ambush, Flowers within a radium of 5m wilt. For each wilted Flower, recover 1s of cooldown.

Counter Attack

We’re improving the usability of Counter so it becomes a viable option in more builds. Over time, we’ll continue to tune it to provide stronger effects in the hands of skilled players.

Base Ability

Before: Blocks most damage for 0.25s. Upon blocking an enemy attack, become immune to all damage for 0.5s and attack all nearby enemies.
After: Blocks most damage for 0.3s. Upon blocking an enemy attack, become immune to all damage for 0.7s and attacks all nearby enemies.
Cooldown: 16s → 15s

Attribute Changes

Scissors
- Before: When Counter inflicts a hit, gain 100% Sharpness.
- After: When Counter inflicts a hit, gain 150% Sharpness.
Cooldown
- Before: When Counter inflicts a hit, decrease the cooldown of other cooldown based skills by 2s.
- After: When Counter inflicts a hit, the Cooldown of Counter is reduced by 3s.

Summon Doll

We increased Summon Doll’s attack range so the skill handles attacking groups of enemies better. To balance its high utility with Scissors and Sharpeness builds, we have slightly reduced its damage output.

Base Ability

Attack range: 3m → 5m
Attack width: 0.8m → 1.5m

Attribute Changes

Scissors
- Before: When a Doll inflicts a hit, 45% of Scissors damage is inflicted as Additional Damage.
- After: When a Doll inflicts a hit, 20% of Scissors damage is inflicted as Additional Damage.

Sewing Wheel

We originally designed this skill as a core spell for Charge builds, but it no longer fits that role. So we’ve removed its built-in additional Charge.

Base Ability

Charges: 1 → 0

Needle Shot

We’ve enhanced certain attributes to bring this skill closer in performance to Shadow Surge.

Attribute Changes

Cooldown
- Before: When casting Needle Shot, the Cooldown of all other Cooldown skills is decreased by 1s.
- After: When casting Needle Shot, the Cooldown of all other Cooldown skills is decreased by 1.5s.
Thread
- Before: Needle Shot shoots 1 additional Needle.
- After: Needle Shot shoots 2 additional Needles.
Crow
- Before: When casting Needle Shot, up to 3 summoned crows are removed. Cooldown is decreased by 15% per removed Crow.
- After: When casting Needle Shot, up to 3 summoned crows are removed. Cooldown is decreased by 30% per removed Crow.

Butterfly Walk

In anticipation of future buffs, we’ve slightly increased the speed the gauge charges up.

Base Ability

Gauge charge speed: 130%/s → 150%/s

Attribute Changes

Scissors
- Before: When Butterfly Walk inflicts a hit, gain 1% Sharpness or each 2% of Gauge charge.
- After: When Butterfly Walk inflicts a hit, gain 1% Sharpness or each 1% of Gauge charge.

Leech

We’ve adjusted various attributes to shift this skill’s role towards generating resources or buffs more efficiently.

Attribute Changes

Scissors
- Before: Duration of Leech increases by 0.5s whenever you land a hit with Scissors
- After: Every 1s while Leech is inflicting damage, gain 30% Sharpness.
Thread
- Before: Every 2s while Leech is inflicting damage, cut 1 Thread and deal bonus damage every second.
- After: Every 2s while Leech is inflicting damage, shoot 1 Needle at all enemies within 5m.
Flower
- Before: Leech withers every Flower it touches and its duration is increased by 0.5s per withered Flower.
- After: While Leech is inflicting damage, spawn 1 Flower every 2s.
Crow
- Before: Every 3s while Leech is inflicting damage, summon 1 Crow.
- After: Every 2s while Leech is inflicting damage, summon 1 Crow.

Fireball

Previously, Fireball was a bit too effective as a general-purpose spell. We have rebalanced it to better fit into Fire builds.

Base Ability

Damage: 1100% → 850%
Cooldown: 16s → 12s

Attributes

Scissors
- Before: When Fireball inflicts a hit, 270% of Scissors damage is inflicted as Additional Damage.
- After: When Fireball inflicts a hit, 120% of Scissors damage is inflicted as Additional Damage.
Cooldown
- Before: The Cooldown of Fireball is decreased by 4s.
- After: The Cooldown of Fireball is decreased by 3s.
Flower
- Before: When Fireball inflicts a hit, spawns 4 Flowers.
- After: When Fireball inflicts a hit, spawns 3 Flowers.

Synergy Buff Adjustments

4 Scissors

Adjusted this synergy to account for the buffs to Sharpness.

Before: Sharpness Max Count is increased by 200% and Duration is increased by 100%.
After: Sharpness Max Count and Duration are increased by 100%.

6 Scissors

Due to changes with the Beast Gloves relic, the calculation method for Critical Hit DMG has been revised.

Before: Scissors damage is increased by 50% and Critical Hit DMG is increased to 100%.
After: Scissors damage is increased by 50% and Critical Hit DMG is increased by 100%.

2 Magic

To increase overall spell damage, synergy buffs for getting 2, 4, and 6 Magic attributes have been buffed.

Before: Spell damage is increased by 10%.
After: Spell damage is increased by 30%.

4 Magic

Before: Spell damage is increased by 10%.
After: Spell damage is increased by 30%.

6 Magic

Before: Gain 1% Spell Enhance every time a Spell is used.
After: Gain 2% Spell Enhance every time a Spell is used.

6 Thread

We buffed this synergy to make Thread-based builds more viable.

Before: When the Threads connected to a target are severed, each severed Thread inflicts 200% of Needle damage. When Threads reach Max Stack and a new Thread is connected, base Threads are severed.
After: When the Threads connected to a target are severed, each severed Thread inflicts 700% of Needle damage. When Threads reach Max Stack and a new Thread is connected, base Threads are severed.

Relic Adjustments

Jewel Scarab

Previously, this relic had an overly punishing debuff compared to other relics. Now, it has been slightly buffed.

Before: Inflicted with the Curse of the Jewel Scarab, decreasing all damage dealt by 30% for the next 3 battles. When Curse of the Jewel Scarab is removed, all damage is increased by 20%.
After: Inflicted with the Curse of the Jewel Scarab, decreasing all damage dealt by 20% for the next 3 battles. When Curse of the Jewel Scarab is removed, all damage is increased by 20%.

Dream Catcher

Before: Increases all damage by 0.3% for each 1 Dice used.
After: Increases all damage by 0.5% for each 1 Dice used.

Smiling Ouija Board

Before: All damage is increased by 4% per tag removed.
After: All damage is increased by 5% per tag removed.

Cracked Swan Doll

Due to its high power as a Tier 2 Relic, we reduced the number of relics you could gain.

Before: You may choose to forfeit the next stage’s Relic and select this stage’s Relic 3 times.
After: You may choose to forfeit the next stage’s Relic and select this stage’s Relic 2 times.

Glass Butterfly

Buffed to provide better return relative to its risk.

Before: All damage dealt is increased by 15%. However, all damage received is increased by 50%.
After: All damage dealt is increased by 25%. However, all damage received is increased by 30%.

Red Shoes

Buffered to improve risk-reward value.

Before: Cooldown of all cooldown skills is decreased by 12%. However, Max HP is decreased by 30%.
After: Cooldown of all cooldown skills is decreased by 20%. However, Max HP is decreased by 25%.

Tripod Scissors

This relic was powerful, but its damage penalty was too harsh in some builds.

Before: In exchange for decreasing the number of attacks required for Scissors to critical hit by 1, all damage is decreased by 20%.
After: In exchange for decreasing the number of attacks required for Scissors to critical hit by 1, all damage is decreased by 10%.

Beast Gloves

Reworked to be a core relic for close-range sustained damage builds.

Before: Sharpness Max Count increases by 100%. When dealing damage with Scissors, increase Sharpness by 50%.
After: Critical Hit DMG of Scissors is increased by 50%.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue where the skip function did not work properly during the credits after Chapter 5.
Fixed an issue where after adjusting the brightness settings and restarting the game, the brightness setting appeared to be saved but was actually reset in-game.
Fixed an issue where under certain conditions, Sil would continue wearing the maid outfit throughout the game.
Fixed an issue in Chloe’s domain where using Ambush under specific conditions would allow the player to move outside the map’s boundaries.
Fixed an issue where some of Abigail’s attack patterns in Chapter 4 would still deal damage even when standing in a safe zone.
Fixed an issue in Rims & Berry’s domain in Chapter 4 where broken structures at certain locations made movement impossible.

Future Updates

First of all, we sincerely apologize for having to divide the originally planned update that was scheduled for the summer sale period. We are doing our best to prepare the remaining updates.

Version 0.7.0 will include side missions and a card system update.
Version 0.8.0 will introduce a new epilogue chapter.

We are currently testing and finalizing the 0.7.0 update and plan to release this as soon as possible, and we plan to release the 0.8.0 update sometime mid to late July.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported us and waited patiently for the upcoming update. We are currently preparing new content including an epilogue chapter, side missions, and various other additions.

However, it has been difficult to release the full update during the originally planned summer sale period, so we’ve decided to stagger our updates in stages. We sincerely apologize for not meeting your expectations and will share our revised timeline and updated details with you as soon as possible.

For now, version 0.6.0 will focus on adjustments to the current content and balance of the game. These changes will have a significant impact on your overall gameplay experience, so we would like to collect your feedback through a beta test.

We have prepared the 0.6.0 Beta Test in advance and will do our best to listen to your voices so that we can continue to move the game forward in a better direction.

0.6.0 Beta Patch Notes

Ambush

To improve its synergy with Butterfly Step, the Flower attribute has been reworked.

- Before: Spawn 2 Flowers upon hit.
- After: When using Ambush, wither all Flowers within 5m and decrease cooldown by 1 second per withered Flower.

Counter Attack

- Before: Leech withers every Flower it touches and its duration is increased by 0.5s per withered Flower.
- After: While Leech is inflicting damage, spawn 1 Flower every 2s.
Crow
- Before: Every 3s while Leech is inflicting damage, summon 1 Crow.
- After: Every 2s while Leech is inflicting damage, summon 1 Crow.

Fireball

Previously, Fireball was a bit too effective as a general-purpose spell. We have rebalanced it to better fit into Fire builds.

Due to changes with the Beast Gloves relic, the calculation method for Critical Hit DMG has been revised.

Before: Scissors damage is increased by 50% and Critical Hit DMG is increased to 100%.

2 Magic

To increase overall spell damage, synergy buffs for getting 2, 4, and 6 Magic attributes have been buffed.

Before: Spell damage is increased by 10%.
After: Spell damage is increased by 30%.

4 Magic

Before: Spell damage is increased by 10%.

6 Magic

Before: Gain 1% Spell Enhance every time a Spell is used.

We buffed this synergy to make Thread-based builds more viable.

Before: When the Threads connected to a target are severed, each severed Thread inflicts 200% of Needle damage. When Threads reach Max Stack and a new Thread is connected, base Threads are severed.
After: When the Threads connected to a target are severed, each severed Thread inflicts 700% of Needle damage. When Threads reach Max Stack and a new Thread is connected, base Threads are severed.

Relic Adjustments

Jewel Scarab

Previously, this relic had an overly punishing debuff compared to other relics. Now, it has been slightly buffed.

Before: Inflicted with the Curse of the Jewel Scarab, decreasing all damage dealt by 30% for the next 3 battles. When Curse of the Jewel Scarab is removed, all damage is increased by 20%.
After: Inflicted with the Curse of the Jewel Scarab, decreasing all damage dealt by 20% for the next 3 battles. When Curse of the Jewel Scarab is removed, all damage is increased by 20%.

Dream Catcher

Before: Increases all damage by 0.3% for each 1 Dice used.
After: Increases all damage by 0.5% for each 1 Dice used.

Smiling Ouija Board

Before: All damage is increased by 4% per tag removed.
After: All damage is increased by 5% per tag removed.

Cracked Swan Doll

Due to its high power as a Tier 2 Relic, we reduced the number of relics you could gain.

Before: You may choose to forfeit the next stage’s Relic and select this stage’s Relic 3 times.
After: You may choose to forfeit the next stage’s Relic and select this stage’s Relic 2 times.

Glass Butterfly

Buffed to provide better return relative to its risk.

Before: All damage dealt is increased by 15%. However, all damage received is increased by 50%.
After: All damage dealt is increased by 25%. However, all damage received is increased by 30%.

Red Shoes

Buffered to improve risk-reward value.

Before: Cooldown of all cooldown skills is decreased by 12%. However, Max HP is decreased by 30%.

Tripod Scissors

This relic was powerful, but its damage penalty was too harsh in some builds.

Before: In exchange for decreasing the number of attacks required for Scissors to critical hit by 1, all damage is decreased by 20%.
After: In exchange for decreasing the number of attacks required for Scissors to critical hit by 1, all damage is decreased by 10%.

Beast Gloves

Reworked to be a core relic for close-range sustained damage builds.

Before: Sharpness Max Count increases by 100%. When dealing damage with Scissors, increase Sharpness by 50%.
After: Critical Hit DMG of Scissors is increased by 50%.

How to Participate in Our Beta Tests

This is an announcement to guide you on how to participate in our beta tests. We conduct beta tests to gather feedback and performance issues prior to the official update. If you participate, you can give feedback through the beta test channel[discord.gg] on our official Discord server. We will take all of your feedback into consideration.

Back Up Your Save Data

The beta version and the standard version of Garden of Witches share the same save files, so after playing the beta, your save file may not load properly in the standard version. We highly recommend you to back up your save file before playing the beta.

How to back up your save data:

Press the shortcut keys [WIN + R] or right-click the Windows Start button and select Run.
Enter: %AppData%\..\LocalLow\Team Tapas\Garden of Witches\Steam\
Click OK.
Open the folder named with your Steam account ID.
Copy the save data file to a separate location for backup.

How to Switch to the Beta Version

Unless a critical or unexpected error occurs, your progress in the beta version will be preserved when the official update is released. However, please make sure to back up your save data using the steps previously explained before participating in the beta test, just in case.

The beta version is available through the Steam client. Follow the steps below to participate:

Open the Steam client -> Go to your Library -> Right-click Garden of Witches
Select [Properties…]
In the properties window, click on the [Betas] tab.
Enter the beta access key: 000000000000 (twelve zeroes)
Click [Check Code].
In the Beta Participation dropdown, select beta from the list.
Close the window and launch the game.

How to Return to the Standard Version

Relic Bugs and Buffs

Smiling Ouija Board
- Fixed an issue where the damage boost effect was not being applied.

Moonflower
- Previously, the tooltip stated the cooldown reduction was 8%, but the actual effect was 15%.
- Now, the tooltip reflects the correct value, and the cooldown reduction has been increased to 16%.

Jewel Scarab
- Previously, the tooltip stated damage was increased by 10%, but the actual effect was 15%.
- Now, the tooltip reflects the correct value, and the damage boost has been increased to 20%.

Crawling Collector

Early Access Launch Feedback and Upcoming Updates

Greetings from Team Tapas!

First of all, we’d like to thank you for supporting and playing Garden of Witches’ Early Access release. Your many comments, reviews, and words of encouragement have been a tremendous source of strength for us.

Since the Early Access launch last week, we have been fixing critical bugs based on your feedback while also carefully reviewing every piece of feedback you have given us. There’s a lot to take in, but we’ve had extensive discussions about how to improve the game and the direction of our future updates.

Today, we’d like to share a brief summary of all the patches we’ve done during the past week as well as some of the feedback and issues we have collected. Then, we’ll talk about the upcoming updates we have planned.

Patch Notes 0.5.0_b102

As a rule, we usually share patch notes via announcements whenever there is an update to our game. However, due to the urgency of some bugs, we rolled out a few updates in advance. We apologize for the delay in sharing the patch notes, but in the future, we will make sure to announce patch notes in a timely manner.

Here are fixes included in this update:

Fixed an issue where sound effects would not play after the ending of the final chapter.
Fixed an issue where players could acquire more than four scissor attributes under certain conditions.
Fixed an issue where after obtaining the Cracked Swan Doll relic, tags removed by choosing the Crying Ouija Board could still appear as selectable attributes with the Sewing Kit relic.
Fixed an issue with the endgame content score tracker where the most recent score was displayed instead of the highest score.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 1 where rewatching the ending scene would result in only being able to fast-forward the cutscene instead of allowing the player to skip it.
Fixed an issue where if the player moved to another chapter before clearing Chapter 5 and then cleared that other chapter, then they would not be able to return to the chapter they were originally on.

Known Issues

The following issues have been confirmed and reproduced by the dev team, but they require additional time to resolve. We are doing our best to identify the causes and to fix them as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Some relics do not function according to the values in their descriptions.
The mouse cursor does not disappear during gameplay under certain conditions.
There are long loading times when entering a combat zone for the first time after launching the game.
FPS drops during some boss fights, especially with Nahatra (including the second phase).
- We have identified some optimization-related issues and are currently working on them.
- We plan on releasing a public beta build to test these fixes, so we would greatly appreciate your participation!
Players occasionally get stuck in walls when using the Ambush skill.
Enemies sometimes get stuck on objects and are unable to move.
Abnormal angles appearing in the grid pattern of one of Nahatra’s attacks.
Various graphical, animation, and visual effect issues.
Various translation errors.

Issues We're Looking Into

The following issues are issues the dev team has not been able to reproduce yet. If you could share more detailed information via Discord, we will do our best to resolve them as quickly as possible.

Dash does not activate when attempting to dash while pressing the up and left buttons.
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is not recognized properly.
Buttons on the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller are assigned incorrectly.
The skip button does not work during the credits scene after the ending.
In rare cases, save data becomes corrupted and prevents gameplay.
Blood Clot amount does not increase even after acquiring a Blood Clot.

Confirmed User Feedback

Based on the feedback we’ve received so far, although there are several areas that need improvement, we believe the game has generally received positive responses.

Many of the features we tested internally and deliberated upon are functioning as intended. However, we acknowledge that there are shortcomings with content volume, difficulty balance, visual clarity, and UX, which we may have overlooked or underdeveloped.

Below are the issues we’ve identified based on user feedback.

Chapter 1

Although Chapter 1 may feel somewhat easy, we believe it plays an important role in allowing players to quickly immerse themselves in the game and story while enjoying the basic progression system. However, many users pointed out that Sil’s initial movement and attack speeds felt too slow during their first playthrough.

We intentionally set the stats lower to create a clear sense of improvement when players experience their first death and upgrade their stats in Sil’s house. That said, this design choice might give the impression that the tempo of the game’s combat is slow, which we think is problematic.

Chapter 2

This chapter introduces the Synergy System, a core element of the game, and it has generally received positive feedback. However, there is a noticeable lack of explanation regarding map rewards and the effects of various attributes.

Chapter 3

In Chapter 3, enemy HP is significantly higher than in Chapter 2. This results in longer progression times, which may cause the pacing to feel slow or tedious depending on the player’s build and playstyle. We think this is a problem.

Furthermore, from Chapter 3 onwards, the performance gap between strong and weak builds becomes much more pronounced. During development, we balanced enemy HP based on high-performing builds, which seems to have caused the overall difficulty to skew too high for those using weaker builds.

However, the core issue we are looking at is how to help players understand which builds are possible and how each system works. Players often lack a clear understanding of how to optimize their build, leading to trial-and-error without a clear goal. We’d like to provide a better learning process to make the trial-and-error process less frustrating and more clear.

Relics also offer relatively limited variations to builds.

Chapter 4

Compared to Chapter 3, the increase in difficulty appears to be reasonably tuned in terms of raw stats. However, some boss patterns were set to be too aggressive, and we’ve received feedback that certain boss patterns or mechanics felt overly difficult to learn or react to.

In particular, the second phase of the final boss relies heavily on pattern memorization rather than reflexive reaction, making it more difficult to master. While we believe a certain level of challenge is appropriate for the final boss, the current learning curve seems to be unnecessarily high.

Boss Pattern Difficulty

We’ve received frequent feedback stating that Sil’s movement speed is too slow, that the dash cooldowns are too long, and that melee builds feel underwhelming. We believe these issues largely stem from boss patterns being too difficult to learn and being unfavorable for close-range combat.

Our dev team aimed to maintain a balanced ratio between patterns that players could react to in real time and patterns that required repeated attempts to learn. However, we recognize that this balance may need to be re-evaluated more carefully.

We designed the current version of the UI with a temporary layout that was easy to modify and expand. Throughout the Early Access period, we plan to fix various UI-related issues, refine the system, and gradually improve the interface.

By the time the full release comes around, we intend to enhance the visual design and add more detailed effects to polish the UI.

Other Feedback

The following issues are issues we are aware of and issues that we are planning to address gradually throughout Early Access. We will continue to make improvements based on your feedback.

Balance between spells, relics, scissor types, and dual synergies.
The impactful feel of hitting enemies and getting hit
Visibility issues with area-based attacks
Repetitiveness in maps and regular monster encounters
Limited overall content volume
Lack of story content or side content
Lack of build diversity
Need for controller vibration and key remapping options
Lack of a post-game summary screen or access to past play records
Need for a true “skip” function instead of just fast-forwarding through story scenes

Summer Update

Among the issues we shared above, we consider the lack of content volume to be our highest priority to address.

Below is a brief sketch of how we plan to expand the game’s content.

We are currently aiming for a summer update that coincides with the Steam Summer Sale starting June 23 June 26 (edited). Since there isn’t much time left, we’re not sure how much we can get done, but we’ll do our best to deliver a solid update.

If we are short on time, we may release only a part of the update or push the schedule back slightly. We will share the development progress with you along the way to gather your ideas and to better identify what needs improvement.

Epilogue Chapter 1
- A new story featuring a different witch set far in the future from Chapter 5
- A new gameplay style with its own rules
- A simple progression system that only affects this chapter
New Skills and More Scissors
- Through the epilogue, a new ability will be unlocked that uses a new button (Keyboard: shift / Gamepad: RB)
- We plan on adding 3 new skills that players will be able to choose from, similar to how skills and attributes are currently selected.
- New scissors tied to these skills will also be added.
Side Missions
- We plan on adding about 10 side missions that can be attempted at any time while progressing through the main story.
- These missions will be simple challenges that require understanding the game’s core mechanics and will have accompanying rewards for clearing them.
- For example:
  - Chapter 2: Missions to practice the Counterattack skill or to learn certain mechanics like thread + charge, HP management, and Butterfly Step.
  - Chapter 3: Missions that hint at powerful builds
  - Chapter 4: Missions that make use of different scissors.
- Note: These will not be simple tutorials but engaging challenges with meaningful goals and rewards.
Balance Updates (for boss patterns and overall difficulty)

Upcoming Plans

Full Release

The full release will take place after a sufficient amount of content has been added. We are tentatively aiming for the Winter Sale at the end of this year at the earliest, but given the small size of our team (of about 6-7 people), there’s a high chance we may not meet that target.

That said, our top priority is to deliver a satisfying amount of content and quality rather than rushing to meet a deadline. Steam-related features such as Achievements and Trading Cards will also be added at the time of the full release.

Additional Epilogue Chapters

In addition to the epilogue chapter planned for the Summer Update, we also plan to add another chapter around autumn. By the time of the full release, we aim to have at least three epilogue chapters, each with a unique gameplay system.

However, we currently lack strong ideas for entirely new gameplay mechanics. If you have fun or interesting ideas for epilogue chapters, please feel free to share them through our Discord community or other channels!

New Scissors, Skills, and More

We will introduce new scissors and skills among other things through the new epilogue chapters.

Currently, some new scissors are being tested. As for new spells, it’s been a challenge to design entirely new mechanics that are distinct from our existing spell lineup, especially considering the need to align them with existing synergies and attributes. Because of this, it may be difficult to add new spells.

Instead, we aim to provide a more engaging gameplay experience by introducing a new skill button in the upcoming Summer Update.

Outfit Customization System

We are planning to add a system where players can unlock various outfits and dress Sil with their preferred outfit of choice. You’ll be able to unlock outfits through various gameplay features like Challenge Mode and Side Missions.

Challenge Mode

A full-featured Challenge Mode is scheduled to be added at the time of the official release. We aim to design enjoyable challenges that utilize the playstyles from both the main chapters and epilogue chapters.

※ Note:
The Challenge Mode currently in the Early Access version was added as a temporary feature for some of our short-term goals such as testing various difficulties.

It will be removed later. So records from the Early Access will not apply to Steam Achievements or platform milestones in the future. However, for those who have already achieved high scores, we may create a legacy records scoreboard for viewing.

Additional Platforms

We plan to release the mobile version (Android, iOS) of Garden of Witches after its full release on Steam. It will be a paid app with no ads or in-app purchases. The price is yet to be determined but will be decided based on the pricing models of similar games.

We’re also preparing for console releases (Nintendo Switch, PlayStation) shortly after the full Steam release.

Support for Linux and macOS is also under consideration. However, since we have no prior experience with porting to consoles or other OS platforms, we cannot yet be certain how smoothly this will go. We will share more details once we’ve conducted further research.

Discount Policy

We plan to participate in all major Steam sale events. Until the full release, discounts will be capped at 20% unless Steam offers a special promotion. The OST bundle pack will likely continue to be available at a 10% discount as well assuming no issues arise.

Voiceovers & Dubbing

We are currently prioritizing Korean and Japanese voiceovers and considering English dubbing. We are especially interested in English voiceovers, as it seems well-suited to the game’s atmosphere.

However, due to cost concerns and the fact that this is our first attempt at implementing voiceovers, we anticipate some trial and error. So we cannot commit to it yet. If things work out, we may consider running a crowdfunding campaign alongside selling physical merchandise (goods) to help fund adding this feature to our game.

There are still many things we couldn’t cover in this announcement, but please know that we are carefully reading through all of your feedback. We would like to sincerely thank all of you who have sent us your many thoughts and suggestions.

We are excited to bring great news to those of you in Korea as you eagerly await the release of Garden of Witches!

We will be participating in the upcoming 2025 Illustar Fes, which will be held over two days from May 3 to May 4 (Sat, Sun) at KINTEX Exhibition Center 1 (Halls 4 & 5) in Ilsan, Korea.

Note: This event is being held in Korea! So if you happen to be in Korea at that time and around Ilsan, then please drop by for some souvenirs!

If you come to the Illustar Play Zone inside the venue, you’ll have the chance to play Garden of Witches in person and experience its charm ahead of its Early Access release!
Those who try the demo will receive a special commemorative gift that we have specially prepared for you. Don’t miss this opportunity!
