The new grab cutscene is out now! It looks significantly better than just pausing the game by adding camera zoom and a spotlight effect.

Thoughts on the Hunter tutorial

The tutorial informs key interactions between the Ghost and the Hunter, but I wish it showed how it would work if it was 1-3 hunter and 3-1 bots vs the ghost. Do the bots act similarly to Monita and spin their flashlight around them when the ghost is near them or do they have the same (...) & (!) indicators? Do they have a fixed movement pattern or do they group up together? I don't know if these are supposed to be in the tutorial, but I haven't been able to find a lobby, so I'm curious on how that works....

Thoughts on the upcoming tutorial

Personally I think it's fine. However, there are a two things that could change. The first is the light of the player character be unlimited, because if you wait too long it will deplete into a small light. You can alternatively use the summoning ability to reset it for them if you get stuck. The second is the screen freezing when a ghost picks up a human. I honestly don't know if this is intentional or the fault of my PC, because the tutorial is the only way I can see how the ghost plays....

First look at the new grab cutscene

Many of you rightly pointed out that the grab cutscene (if you could even call it that) just looks like the game froze. That changes now!

The last remnant of the old cutscene's jank is the jarring transition when a hunter switches back to their perspective. Once that's smoothed over I think this new cutscene will be good to go.

You can try it yourself in the grab-cutscene-test beta.

How does it look so far? Any suggestions for how it could be better?

The interactive ghost and hunter tutorials are here, bringing much-needed clarity for players not already familiar with the original minigame. A huge thank you to everyone who gave feedback along the way!

Added

Interactive ghost and hunter tutorials.

Changed

Simplified hunter costume rendering to fix issues the old rendering caused in the tutorials. This comes with a small performance benefit and makes animations slightly less delayed.
Simplified level centering by using camera offsets instead of moving the entire level. This should look identical in practice but with much less jank behind the scenes.
Many other small technical changes needed to make the tutorials work.
