Important setting changes for me: turn off quest guide, turn off auto quest tack, turn off achievements notifications. Otherwise the game constantly keeps showing you pop ups and nagging you towards an objective or another, kinda exactly the opposite of what I want in a chill cozy game like this.

Compared to Disney Dreamlight Valley, this one is a bit less My Time At Portia and more Animal Crossing - with an important exception to the fact that it has more free movement, with a bit of platforming, puzzles and mini-games like that.

While Dreamlight Valley is a game that you play almost entirely at your own pace, with very few stuff tied to real-life time (and even some of what is tied to real-life time is in the scale of minutes instead of days), Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a game that has a set pace with more real-life timed stuff, daily and weekly mostly. I enjoy both approaches, for this genre, and they scratch slightly different itches for me, so there's room for both. Another difference is with the writing, DDLV is aimed at adults nostalgic for their childhood while HKIA is more aimed at kids directly.

Speaking of writing, one thing I dislike is that while you get dialog choices, they are immediately ignored - not even a single line change from the reply based on what you select. I don't need a deep conversation system, but at least a line replying to my choice would be nice as most games do.

Early impressions are very positive, I will be quite happy with this game if this level of quality holds up.

Please see below for my analysis on Hello Kitty Island Adventure and Why You Should Not Spend $40 On It. On the surface it appears to be an animal crossing clone (which it is), but what it is lacking that animal crossing has, is soul. There is no soul in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. It's pretty, with great graphics, but the characters? I don't care about them. I don't care about their dialogue and the dialogue "options" mean nothing and are essentially all the same. The way I would fight for a villager to stay in my town in AC, and treasure when they gave me picture of them, I would never feel that way for any of the lifeless Sanrio characters in this game. I wouldn't blink if they were all killed in front of me. Hello Kitty Island Adventure you are pretty with lots of doodads but you do not move me.

Recommended if you were a Sanrio fiend as a kid. My friend bought this for me for my birthday, and it's as cozy and cute as I thought it would be. That said, it definitely feels like it skews younger than comparable games such as Disney Dreamlight Valley and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so keep that in mind. In the beginning, there's also a lot of time locking that only allows you to play for a certain period each day until all productivity goes out the window. I'm hoping this gets better with time, but it's definitely a wall I have run up against that has ended 3 different play sessions on different days for me thus far. Looking forward to seeing what else I unlock, but this is one best played in small increments, I think.

I do play World of Warcraft but I also play Hello Kitty Island Adventure. If you like Animal Crossing, and if you like that part of Sonic Forces where your OC gets to be Sonic's best friend, then this slaps.

I have not been off this game since I got it I haven't even showered for 2 weeks I've been so locked in with building my friendship island. Everyone in my family has been expressing their worries since they haven't seen me in 2 weeks now but honestly they don't get the addiction. I need to help all my friends. They need MY help. I need to help them. Please Help ur sanrio friends build the best friendship island ever.

Okay, so I came to this game after doing a perfection run for the first time in Stardew Valley and I was extremely hesitant. I was originally against paying 40$ for this game that originated as an Iphone game. However, it has absolutely filled a hole for me completing Stardew. (Not sure if they are entirely comparable though, it is more comparable to OG Animal Crossing.) I am 30 hours in at the moment and feel like I've only just got into the meat of this game.

After reading reviews here I decided not to get the game when it first released on Steam. It was waiting and watching streams of the game that changed my mind. I wanted to leave this review to tell you that if you're here wondering if this is a cozy game for you or worried about the 40$ price tag I'd recommend just watching a streamer play for a couple days and see if you itch to get into it too.

Personally, I don't find the game too much of a grind like the reviews I read while deciding to buy, but this is where I heavily enjoy super grindy games like Stardew Valley so I may be desensitized. I find this game is more of a cozy sit back, explore, craft, and make friends with the Sanrio Characters (at your own pace or the games). I find the game seems paced okay for there to be enough to do with dailies and collecting resources. Also, there is no in game currency, the island economy works off of the material on the island you can collect to then craft or trade. So the grind would be exploring everyday to collect seashells, coconuts, gemstones, flowers, ect., .... (that is not a heavy grind at all because so far at no point do you sell items). If you are more of a fan of the older Animal Crossings this would scratch an itch for you. However, if you're looking for another New Horizon I'd say you may be disappointed.

Is it worth 40$? This was the question that bounced around the most in my head before buying this game and my friends had to remind me that "New Horizons was a 60$ game." With that I would say there is absolutely 40$ worth of content here as someone who was originally going to wait for a sale to drop it to 24$. If you can wait for a sale then do so, but if you feel like its torture to wait for a sale then don't feel bad shelling out the full 40$. I will say if anything just be aware of Steams return policy because it may take longer than 2 hours to figure out if the game is right for you since it's based on showing up in real time daily to further the games plot. This was something I was worried about but this will be a game I easily put 200 hours into like its a full time job.
