Somehow this game walks right on the line of being simple and complex at the exact same time.

Talented is a fantastic roguelike where you literally just sit in the middle and blast things while accessing a randomly generated Path Of Exile style skilltree. There are multiple classes that all feel completely unique and have their own tree nodes, as well as an ascension type mechanic where the game gets harder as you progress more into it.

The game is shockingly fun for a game where you essentially roleplay a tower in Bloons 6. However, the gameplay does have the downside of making the early game feel very slow paced until you get your build online. Luckily for us, the developer has a built in 2x button so my main potential qualm with this game was entirely extinguished.

This game scratches that dopamine inducing itch and power fantasy that you'd want in a game like this. You can become a god essentially in some runs. Some runs do end up dying off due to poor tree RNG, but that is the nature of a roguelike in general. Each character can easily become similar levels of broken while also maintaining a unique feel.

This game also recently (finally) got controller support -- which was a long time coming as this game fits perfectly as a roguelike in your rotation on the Deck. I do find the skill tree navigation to be a bit clunky with a controller, but overall I'm glad it finally got proper support instead of me using a janky homebrew controller setup. It's a perfect wind down before sleeping game as runs are fairly short (as you can control the speed) and it's also not the most energetic or mentally demanding game.

The developer seems like a pretty active dude from me briefly checking in on this game on and off throughout the past year -- there has been a lot of good updates to this game. I played it last night after the first time in a while and a lot of quality of life and visual updates have happened between my last sessions and today's.

Overall, I recommend talented. It's a pretty cheap game with a shockingly deep amount of content to delve into while also being fairly simplistic. Treat yourself and give this game a chance. Better roguelikes do exist, but this game is cheap and has a lot of heart put into it.
