I loved this game instantly. It has some occasional jank, and the speed at which text appears and pop-ups, like the game reviews and convention stand, go by painfully slow. Fortunately there's a swathe of mostly-excellent mods that really expand on this game (TAG UI is GOAT). There's the odd thing that I would have arranged differently if I had made a video game dev game myself, but overall everything feels 'right'. Its just a smooth and kinda addictive experience and it honestly has made me want to finally get learning UE or Unity, so props for that.

Game Dev Tycoon is great and hopefully Greenheart will turn their efforts onto making a follow-up in the coming years.

Look fun and to be honest over all is fun. Whats not fun, things in the game that are supposed to help you progress actually do not help you at all. Making multiply good games in a row actually hurts you which makes no sense. Putting the right combinations on one game may give you a 10 one time and the next game will give you 4. Who people make it to the end of this im not sure but its very unfun making it half way thru every run due to low fan support and game engines costing a fortune.

This is a fun game dev simulation game, and has quite a bit of replay value. It is genuinely fun to experiment to find different combinations of topics, genres, platforms, audience range, and dev time allocation. The game isn't too long either, as a typical play through may only take anywhere from 6 - 12 hours depending on how much you micromanage. The piracy mode adds a nice challenge after a few playthroughs as you will have to spend your now dwindling resources to maintain anti-piracy measures on your games. Beating it was a nice puzzle to figure out by myself.

This game is great for a few playthoughs casually, and most if not all of the achievements are completely obtainable this way. My biggest issue with this game, however, is obtaining an 11/10 rating. Frankly, I'm surprised this achievement has as much as an 11% obtained rating, as just getting a 10/10 game seemingly requires multiple factors to come together, as well as the stars and planets aligning, while the game is being developed. The game gives you hints through reports about how important each category of game development is to the given genre, as well as how good the combination of topic, genre, platform, and audience match for that released game. What the game does NOT tell you is that in order to create a perfect game, you must not only get a perfect match between topic, genre, platform and audience, not only generate both more design and tech points than your previous best game (you compete against your previous best, not any sort of gaming market), BUT you must also maintain a ratio of these design and tech point according to the genre of the game. GDT does not give you any real indication about this ratio, I had to look it up a guide for it.

Unfortunately, knowing is only half the battle! Figuring out how to reach this ratio either comes through sheer luck, or you MUST micromanage your game to the minute detail, and none of it was fun. It took me multiple playthroughs, and then just hours of save scumming a sequel of a 9.75 rated game to get the chance at a 11/10. To maintain consistency, its best to remove every feature from the game and rely solely on placing the sliders in the pixel perfect spot on each category (each category generates different amounts of design and tech points [The ratio of generated points are not told to you, either, unless you look it up]), and then tweak sliders so you HOPEFULLY get close enough to the ratio. If everything goes perfect, you get a 10/10 game. To get 11/10, you just have to get lucky. There is no extra skill involved, there isnt even some secret requirement the game just wont tell you about, you just have to be really lucky AFTER getting a 10/10 worthy game.

Suffice to say, this really killed the enjoyment I was having with this game. I havent had such a good game fall on its face since Sonic Frontiers. The main reason this is a problem is that the game just doesnt tell you enough, or what is missing from a game that isnt quite perfect (a 9.75). Reviews and game reports don't tell you what is missing from your 9.75 game. You have to bust out a spreadsheet and a guide to figure this out yourself.

TLDR: Great for casual playthroughs, really annoying to grind a perfect game.
Overall, 8/10 "Can't wait for the sequel" (-All Games)
