Developer Update: Public Playtest Wrap-Up & What’s Next

Hi Fellows!

It’s been just a little over a month since our Public Playtest (demo) for Steam Next Fest – which ICYMI went extremely well to say the least (see the infographic below) – but we wanted to take a moment to share a Developer Update video that addresses your playtest feedback, how we plan to improve Fellowship based on the feedback and what’s next for the game as we get it ready for Early Access launch. Be sure to check out the video as it has a few things we’ve been working on lately based on your feedback!

We’ll be spending the next few months focused on developing Fellowship, but don’t worry, we won’t be silently working. We will still be giving you all updates as we continue development. Updates will include sharing news (yes, that includes news of the Early Access release date – we’ll have news on that when we’re ready!), videos/trailers, dev team blogs, and last but certainly not least giving you all a chance to take a look on what we’re working on along the way.

Aside from giving wider updates, we also have our Fellowship Community Council, our new community program where we’ve hand-picked and will continue to hand-pick a group of players – from competitive players to players that are new to this type of game, and give these players the chance to connect directly with us! For the program, folks that are in it can get exclusive access to in-development builds of Fellowship (under NDA, of course) and give us feedback in real-time to shape the future of our game. If you’re interested in joining the council, send Hamish, our Community Director, a DM via Discord, share with him why you’d be a good fit, and he’ll make sure to add you to the list for consideration to join the council.

That’s it for today’s dev update, but we’re thrilled to continue development on Fellowship after all the incredible feedback we got from you all from the Public Playtest! We can’t wait to share more updates as we work on getting Fellowship ready for Early Access launch later this year.

A Thank You from Chief Rebel

Hi Fellows!

Now that we’ve reached the end of our first Public Playtest for Fellowship, we wanted to take a moment to stop and thank everyone that tried out our pride and joy.

We’ve known for a long time that we’ve got something very special here with Fellowship but for the first time, we were able to see exactly how players truly feel about our game. The truth? We’re blown away by the response.

It’s been incredible watching players at the bleeding edge push Fellowship to the absolute limit but we’ve also been buoyed by the smaller stories; players reaching out because they’d tried our game on a whim having never experienced this kind of gameplay before and absolutely falling in love. We’ve had emails from people wanting to make plushies, incredible fan art for proposed heroes, actual theorycrafting sims and so much more. You’d be forgiven for thinking this test had been running for months but all of these incredible things have happened in the space of only ten days. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better response and the team are hyped beyond belief to show you what comes next.

Because this test went so well, it’s easy to forget that this was just a dress rehearsal. The reality is that we’re only at the start of what we believe to be a long and exciting road for Fellowship. You don’t even need to take our word for it, we’ve heard you and we know that the feeling is mutual.

With that, we have one last thing to ask you: don’t go anywhere. Stay tuned to all of our channels as we bring you news of what’s coming next and all of the important things we’ve learnt from you during this test. Now it’s time for our team at Chief Rebel and Arc Games to fix our sleep schedules which you’ve ruined from all the sleepless nights watching you play and talk about Fellowship! We’re not mad about it and we can’t wait to do it all over again.

Surprise! Demo Available Until Tomorrow!

Fellows, we have a BIG surprise! We’ve decided to have the Public Playtest (Demo) available until tomorrow (March 4th) at 10:00am PT! 🙌

We want to give you all even more time to play the demo across all servers and continue to go on epic dungeon runs. Yesterday, we noticed that the North America server was experiencing lag spikes (sorry about that!) We’d like to get to the bottom of what the issue could be on the NA server side, so if possible, please play on that server to help us out there. 🛠️

Heads up that Fellowship will undergo maintenance later today. 📜 We'll give an update about this when everything's set up on our end.

Public Playtest Patch Notes - March 1

Hi Fellows!

We'll be releasing a patch today to fix crashes and add some balancing changes. We'll be bringing down the servers temporarily for maintenance as well. ⚒️

Below are the notes for today's patch.

GENERAL

Discovered and fixed another issue causing crashes related to cooldown recovery.
Fixed an issue causing players who rejoin an ongoing dungeon to not be targetable.
Fixed an issue causing players who rejoin an ongoing dungeon to not get loot from the end of dungeon chest.
Players who rejoin an ongoing dungeon that have an empty health bar will no longer need to restart the game again. The health bar will update upon taking damage.
Fixed an issue causing all ability cooldowns to reset when players rejoined an ongoing dungeon.

RELICS

Fixed the tooltip for Blood Rite Drums. Now correctly states that it provides +50% Cooldown Recovery for the duration of the effect.
The cooldown of Blood Rite Drums has been increased to 3 minutes, up from 2.5 minutes.
The cooldown of Salt Wash Elixir has been reduced to 2 minutes, down from 5 minutes.
The cooldown of Ancient Wardstone has been reduced to 2 minutes, down from 5 minutes.
The cooldown of Sinbinding Stone has been reduced to 3 minutes, down from 5 minutes.
The cooldown of Chalice of Al'zerac's Essence has been reduced to 3 minutes, down from 5 minutes.

RIME

Rime Talent: Avalanche now causes Icy Comet to have a 20% chance to strike twice and a 4% chance to strike three times, down from 30% / 8%.
Rime Talent: Soulfrost Torrent now increases the damage of Freezing Torrent by 50%, down from 100% - resulting in a total of 200% increased damage on a full channel considering the increased duration of the channel still being double.
Rime Talent: Soulfrost Torrent's proc per minute reduced to 1.5 (was 2.0).
Rime Talent: Winter's Blessing now converts 30% of damage to healing, down from 100%.

SYLVIE

Safe Haven cooldown reduced to 120 seconds, down from 180 seconds.
Safe Haven duration increased to 15 seconds, up from 12 seconds.
Safe Haven damage reduction increased to 25%, up from 20%.
Fluttercall: Jubilee now redistributes health in the group every 2 seconds, down from every 3 seconds.

TARIQ

Focused Wrath now increases the damage of your next two Skull Crushers or Hammer Storms by 50%, up from 30%.
Raging Currents damage increased by 50%.

STORMWATCH & DEMONBRAND RUINS

Mancatchers will now wait longer after initiated to use their Grip ability.
Mancatcher's Grip damage reduced by 40%.
The minimum range of Mancatcher's Grip ability has been increased to 1500, up from 1000.

SAILOR'S ABYSS

Vengeful Shade's Witherbane Toxin now deals damage every 3 seconds, up from every 2 seconds.
Coral Lasher's Disgorged Muck cooldown increased to 12 seconds, up from 8 seconds.
Water Elemental's Hydro Bolt cooldown increased to 15 seconds, up from 12 seconds.

THE WYRMHEART

Coldheart Assassin's Wicked Strikes damage reduced by 20%.
Coldheart Assassin's Poison Dagger damage reduced by 35%.
Greater Ice Elemental's Stomp ability damage reduced by 28%.

Public Playtest Patch Notes - February 28

28 Feb

GENERAL

We have increased the maintenance warning timer to 30 minutes, up from 15 minutes. Unfortunately, this requires us to patch the game, so this patch will be the last one with a 15-minute warning.

STABILITY

Fixed another issue causing crashes when players used Cooldown Reducing talents or effects and Cooldown Recovery. This is the issue that was primarily affecting Rime players, but should also prevent crashes for all heroes related to cooldown reduction.

SPIRIT ABILITY UPDATE

Spirit ability charge lost upon death has been reduced to 25%, was 50%.

TARIQ

Auto Attack / Heavy Strike damage increased by 10%.
Leap Slam damage increased by 15%.
Raging Tempest's tooltip incorrectly stated that Raging Currents increases critical strike chance by 1.5% per stack. Now correctly states each stack increases critical strike chance by 1%.
Culling Strike's base damage increased by 33%.
Added information on Culling Strike's tooltip to clarify that the ability does not affect the swing timer.
Intimidate cooldown reduced to 150 seconds, down from 180 seconds.
Intimidated enemies can now take 100% more damage before the fear breaks.
Talent: Blood & Thunder now increases Chain Lightning damage by 25%, up from 20%.

HELENA

Helena's maximum Toughness value is based on her strength (1200% of Strength baseline). This has been increased to 1800% Strength.
Helena's Toughness generation from Shields Up, Shield Slam & successful blocks is also based on her strength. All three abilities now have 50% increased Toughness generation.
The above 2 changes cause Toughness generation to function the same as before, while reducing the amount of Toughness lost when taking damage, improving her overall damage mitigation.
The amount of Toughness generated by successful blocks has been increased by an additional 25% (from 4% Toughness per block, to 5%).
Shields Up duration increased to 12 seconds, up from 8 seconds.

MEIKO

Serenity no longer has a global Cooldown.
Stone Shield is now more resilient. The health of each stone has been increased by 33%.
Talent: Spirited Advance had an issue causing the free applications of Spirited Strikes and Spirited Vortex to not work properly. This has been fixed.
KNOWN BUG AND REQUEST: Meiko's "Spirited Advance" talent is causing lag spikes. Until we have a chance to fix it, we recommend Meiko players to not use that talent for now. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Talent: Harsh Winds tooltip clarified to indicate that the attack speed slow only affects enemy auto attacks.
Talent: Forbidden Technique now accumulates 15% of all damage you deal to the target, up from 10%.

RIME

Talent: Glacial Assault now requires 4 stacks to activate, down from 5.

SYLVIE

Talent: Bluey's Gambit damage reduction when placed on another player increased to 10%, up from 5%.
Talent: Bloomin' Boomshrooms now heals allies near the target for 75% intellect per explosion, up from 50%.

PROGRESSION

All types of Ingots and Aethers will now continue dropping as the difficulty increases.
Ingot and Aether drop chances continue increasing up to difficulty 24.
End of dungeon group loot UI updated to support showing up to 8 items for players, as there now is a small chance for players to get all 3 Ingots, all 3 Aethers, an Item, and a Gem in a single chest.
Fixed an issue with the 'Might of the Minotaur II' ruby gem power causing it to only provide 1% increased intellect for intellect heroes. It now correctly increases intellect by 10%.
Fixed an issue with item scrapping UI, causing items in the scrap window to become scrapped when a player pressed the "Eject Gem" button.

CURSES

Blood Shards damage reduced to 2.5%, down from 3% (tooltip incorrectly stated 4%, now updated to 2.5%).
Binding Ice now roots the afflicted player for 3 seconds, down from 4 seconds.
Meteor Rain's fragments now have 10% smaller hit boxes.
The killscore break points that cause Malevolent Spirits to appear is now every 12% in dungeons and 24% in adventures, down from every 10% in dungeons and 20% in adventures.
Carnage now causes 10% of all damage dealt by players being replicated as healing on the group, down from 20%.
Challenge now increases non-boss enemies' health and damage by 10%, down from 15%.
Ultimatum now increases boss health and damage by 10%, down from 15%.

DEMONIC RITUAL

PROPHET EZ'RATH

Wicked Hook ability is now visible on the boss timer.
Increased minimum range of Wicked Hook to 1500 (was 1000).
Wicked Hook's initial damage reduced by 35%.

ICE CAVES

ELDRIN ASSASSIN

Poison Dagger initial damage reduced by 24%.

CITHREL'S ASCENT

BLADE OF CITHREL

Ice Breaker damage reduced by 17%.

Public Playtest Patch Notes - February 26

26 Feb

Thank you everyone for playing during our Fellowship Public Playtest at Steam Next Fest, and for providing valuable feedback and bug reports on our Discord[discord.gg]! We have pushed a hotfix that addresses several issues, check out the complete patch notes below.

QUICKPLAY

Fixed Quickplay issues where premade groups sometimes could not play quickplay.
Fixed an issue of new players being unable to play when the matchmaker queued them into a party with a premade group.
Fixed several issues causing longer queue times in Quickplay. We are keeping an eye on this to see if there are any more issues after this patch.

STABILITY

Fixed a few cases where the reduction of cooldowns caused a crash. This is a crash that would be more prevalent for certain heroes and talents (in particular Helena and Rime playing with their cooldown reduction talents). There may be more cases, so we will continue keeping an eye on this. Thank you for your patience.
Fixed an issue causing some players who start the game to get in a situation where regions are "offline", even though they are not.

PROGRESSION

Fixed an issue causing some materials in the chest at the end of dungeon to be less than 1. Now, when players complete any dungeon or adventure that is high enough difficulty to award a certain material, they will receive at least 1 of that resource.
Fixed an issue causing some bonuses from certain Gem Powers to be lost upon death.

HERO BALANCING UPDATE

Moar'Gore's health has been increased by 5%.

Vun'kahr

Vun'Kahr now takes 35% of all damage dealt to Slaughtervines and Terrorvines (was 30%).
Slaughtervines now reflect 15% of all damage taken back on players (was 10%).

Prophet Ez'rath

Prophet Ez'rath's Dark Malice damage to players outside the area has been increased by 14%. (0.35 - 0,40)

Hulking Bulgore

Auto Attack damage increased by 20%.

THE WYRMHEART
Magistrate Veras

Auto Attack damage increased by 15%.
Icy Death damage increased by 15%.
Ice Spikes now targets up to 4 players (was 2 players).

Public Playtest Patch Notes - February 25

25 Feb

PROGRESSION

Fixed an issue causing items for 10+ dungeons to be stuck in the mailbox. You can now continue gaining items at high difficulties.
Players can now claim any items that were in their mailbox since yesterday retroactively.
ilevel15 items now award proper Gold when scrapped.

STABILITY

Fixed crash when leaving the tutorial.
Fixed crash when going to a dungeon with the talent windows open.

TARIQ

"Thunder Call" ability tooltip updated to no longer have the text "Generates 25 Fury".

VIGOUR

Radiant Blast was incorrectly gaining 100% increased damage during Avatar of Faith, now correctly increases damage of Radiant Blast by 50% for the duration.
Dawnbreaker Orb damage reduced by 35%.
The talent "Ruptured Soul" now explodes for 25% of the damage remaining in any active Soulbrands when the enemy is killed (was 50%) - Rune Power generation remains at 50%.

Public Playtest Now Live!

The moment you’ve all been patiently waiting for is here: Our Fellowship Public Playtest is now live as part of Steam Next Fest: February Edition! You can jump right into the playtest for free, no signup or key required. This playtest will be running until March 3 at 10am PT (7pm CET), so make the most of it! If you’d like to discuss the game or team up with fellow dungeon crawlers, we invite you to join our Fellowship Discord[discord.gg].

FAQ

There really is no signup, payment or key required?
Correct, there is no need to sign up, key or fee required for this Public Playtest. It’s free and publicly available as part of Steam Next Fest.

How do I get into the Public Playtest?
Head to Fellowship’s Steam page, download the playtest build (it’ll be shown as a “Demo”) and once it’s downloaded, you can jump in and play.

When can I play exactly?
Steam Next Fest and the Public Playtest runs from 2/24 at 10am PT (7pm CET) to 3/3 at 10 am PT (7pm CET) and Fellowship will be fully playable for that whole time.

Can I stream/capture my gameplay?
There is no NDA for this playtest. Streaming/video capture and talking about the playtest is encouraged!

What Heroes are available?
There will be 6 heroes for players to choose from during the Public Playtest: 2 Tanks, 2 DPS, and 2 Healers. We have added a new Melee DPS, Tariq, to this playtest that wasn't available in the Closed Alpha.

Is there any new content in the Public Playtest compared to the last playtest, the Closed Alpha playtest last August?
There is! Compared to the Closed Alpha playtest back in August 2024, in addition to introducing a new DPS hero, Tariq, the Public Playtest introduces new gameplay systems, like a unique gem system and an item transmutation system, world and party chat, new Curses, new Gear, new Mounts, new visual element improvements and reworks of previous gameplay mechanics based on Closed Alpha playtest player feedback.

Will there be servers in my region?
There are NA, EU, and Asian servers available during the Public Playtest.

What languages are the Playtest available in?
The playtest is available in English only as we're currently working on the localization process for additional languages.

How do I share my feedback?
Join our Discord[discord.gg]! Feedback can be shared in the ⁠#game-feedback channel.

What do I do if I encounter an issue during the Public Playtest?
As this is still a Beta build, you may occasionally encounter issues with your game. If you do, please report them in the ⁠#bug-reports ⁠channel on Discord so our teams can track them.
