Choo Choo Survivor 2 Beta is Live!

A streamer by the name of Bataneye made a really nice video (I'm not affiliated with him in anyway, I just like his videos).

To win in Choo Choo Survivor 2 I recommend going a bit slower when you start your run, blowing everything up to collect resources (trees don't drop any resources) and then upgrade your locomotive. My strategy is to upgrade my primary weapon power a bit and then immediately get scavenger upgrades to increase the odds of getting more resources from certain structures and buildings that yield resources. I then get an OTR upgrade if I've gotten a survivor or I just put more emphasis on upgrading my primary weapon!

If your run doesn't have any city section then you may find that you are not getting enough resources to become uber powerful. In that case keep your survivors and when you get the survivor carriage at about one third into your run then do the survivor carriage scavenger upgrades, this will allow your train to generate resources at regular intervals!

It's optional, but I recommend fighting and beating the Relic Keeper at about halfway in the run. Doing so will allow you to install another auxiliary system on your locomotive so you could have the modified cow catcher and fire breather (Boba the dragon....), or fire breather and the lightning rod (awesome and stuns zombies)!

Hello Choo Choo Engineers!

Choo Choo Survivor 2 is official now and has got a Steam coming soon page!

This time around I'm also experimenting with having a physics based weapon and I was able to successfully implement a wrecking ball attached to a chain that is attached to your locomotive! It pushes and crushes those zombies as you swing it about and the ball has force applied to it to make it follow your mouse cursor. The standard turret is also quite fun with its piercing, knock back and explosion upgrades, and since this time around we have to aim and shoot I also added a Repeater upgrade for the turret so that you don't have to hold down left click, you just have to aim (should help Engineers suffering from trigger finger). As I develop more weapons I'll write about them.

I'm designing Choo Choo Survivor 2 so that each locomotive will have its own unique auxiliary system, but the primary weapon is independent of the locomotive. So as you unlock weapons you can choose to have that on any locomotive you select. I've developed two locomotives so far, the SD40 and the FP7. The SD40 has an upgradeable cow catcher as its auxiliary system (it becomes really powerful at crushing zombies and it gets a machine gun that fires ahead). The FP7 has the fire breather auxiliary system that makes the locomotive constantly emit jets of flame and the ultimate upgrade for this auxiliary system is summoning a fire breathing dragon that will roast anything under your mouse cursor!

Hello Choo Choo Engineers!

I'm working on the sequel to Choo Choo Survivor and I can't wait to have a prototype to share with you all. I'm making great progress with a true successor to Choo Choo Survivor! This time around we'll be aiming and shooting at the zombies and everything can be blown up. Some types of buildings and objects can drop resources which we use to upgrade our trains power through a tech tree. We have a drone that flies out and collects resources (can be upgraded). More info to come in the coming weeks and months, and if all goes well I'll have a playable prototype ready end of February or early March!

Make sure you change the engine oil and the many filter tubes of your diesel loco because we have a new apocalyptic journey to get ready for and survive through, and of course lots of zombies to destroy and crush!

I don't want to leave you with nothing to look at so here are some images from my dev tests, and once I've progressed more in development I'll be able to share images and footage that accurately show the gameplay instead of me testing and messing around!

Trading Cards! Choo Choo!

We now have trading cards! There are 10 trading cards to collect and some cool badges, emoticons, and backgrounds to get!

Also, check out my latest game Peacequarium, an idle aquarium sim you can resize and keep anywhere on your screen! I have an open playtest happening right now and it includes Steam achievements, and Steam inventory items. A nice way to relax in between surviving the zombie apocalypse.

Hello Choo Choo Engineers!

I've been upgrading my game dev skills and decided to take a diversion for a bit and make a wholesome game, the obvious choice after surviving the zombie apocalpyse, right? It's a soothing experience and important to avoid burn out I think to work on something that is calming from time to time. Also, I played Rusty's Retirement and thought it was awesome and that I too should contribute towards the idle games space with my own idler aquarium simulation that sits at the bottom of the screen.

That doesn't mean I'm not making another Choo Choo survival game, in fact I very much want to and I'm taking opportunities to upgrade my knowledge so I can do better justice to such a game within the boundaries of my growing skillset.

So here's the wholesome game I've been working on, it's called Peacequarium and it will also be part of the wholesome games steam celebration from the 15th of August to the 21st! It is very much in the idler and incremental genre and runs at the bottom of the screen so you can focus on other tasks, or even play Choo Choo Survivor at the same time...

Thanks for your support over the last year Choo Choo Engineers, and do consider taking up a Peacequarium hobby of being an Aquarist when you're not blasting all those zombies to oblivion! Loading times improved!

Hello Choo Choo Engineers!

It took me a couple of attempts but I believe I've now reduced loading time to about a third of what it was after the Choo Choo of the Dead update. The main slow down was from my color palette code and I think I've sped it up a lot. Application of color palettes should be fast now.

Hello Choo Choo Engineers!
Welcome to a new big update that adds the new level Choo Choo of the Dead, two new locomotives (GP9 and KiHa 183 with actual engine and horn sounds), a new awesome laser beam weapon and the option for you to select from a range of color palettes and so completely change the color scheme of the game! Let me know which color palette you like most in the comments section below!

I'll have a minor update for Japanese language in the coming days.

I hope you enjoy the latest update and keep on erasing the zombie hordes!

Fixing Try Again Button bug

Hello Choo Choo Engineers,

A Choo Choo Engineer found a bug where upon pressing the Try Again button all of their progress was deleted. Luckily they were a new player to the game and I hope this hasn't happened to anyone else. I made a minor edit to the code that delays a few lines of code where I have to read data from the save file after having accessed the save file to write data to the file (this is all called when the player loses a game). I think by adding the delay in reading data from the save file it will greatly reduce the likelihood of save file data being deleted. I think some aspects of code are dependent on computer hardware and most players including myself will never experience the bug.

Keep up the good work in reporting the bugs and sorry for the inconvenience. Let me know if you experience problems and I'll try to figure them out and fix them.
