I press play and the game stalls and quits. Any suggestions to get it to run?

Another post here had the same problem and an user fixed it by reinstalling, but it still crashes for me

How do I get the Distinguished achievement? I've done all three endings and also gotten the You Monster achievement. Only this one is left and I can't figure out how to get it.

after going through all 3 endings, i realised that as i progressively did each ending, things throughout the house changed. -- first, the shower appeared. -- then, the pot plant in the master bedroom vanished. -- then, an coffee cup appeared on the dining table. -- then, an power point appeared outside the master bedroom window, partially embedded in the wall. -- at some point, that squirrel was pointing toward something. not sure if there's anything i've missed, though it does have me curious....

I accidentally soft locked myself by throwing all the sweet ingredients outside and there doesn't seem to be anything else I can interact with.
