Can we add custom art for making new units?

finally picked this game up and I've been having a blast making maps and can't understand why this game doesn't have simple MP or local hosting or something to allow friends to play together on different PCs.. I think it would be a really great game and there is a ton of room for strategic, long play maps, but also small quick battles. also how cool would it be to share our maps on workshop?? just seems weird to me from the dev side that some of these things are not implemented...

It's possible to play with controller ?
