Steam is supposed to be a game distribution platform, why the hell are we seeing photo editing software and a bunch of other stuff which clearly shouldn't be on Steam to begin with in the store?

wow! finally! a way to share images on the internet! thank you steam for bringing me this wonderful game related blessing of software! for the longest time i was storing pictures in folders, but this $40 application is clearly superior. keep bringing us this breakthrough technology!!...

I don't know, so I'm asking. Will Steam have to authenticate and load ACDSee if I were to double click on a picture on my desktop?

It's basically the same thing, and it's awesome and free. Or Picasa, or IrfanView, or FastStone, or Photoscape, depending on your needs and preferences. Pretty much anything in the "Photos and Images" category of FileHippo or AlternativeTo (dot net).
